Saw it coming a mile off with the Pelagos stuff and Thiernax but to what recent WoW development do we owe this new and refreshing “OrCs AnD hUmAnS” hot take?
I’m just confused. Like usually there’s a clear trigger for this sort of thing. But I can’t seem to find the recent “PC story development “ that is fuelling this rant, unless it’s a weird swivel eyed attempt to conflate the removal of spit emote on players with the story no longer focusing on orcs fighting humans.
As am I, I mentioned that the faction war (factually) doesn’t feature as the main focus of 7.5 expansions in 9 but apparently the REAL Warcraft is the faction war, which stopped being a thing after Beyond the Dark Portal in any major sense.
A warlock: joins a band of heroes to torture innocents, steal their soul essence and betray their group killing them for their souls and items when the quest is finally over.
The game post wotlk: you are a great hero ready to sacrifice to defend the innocent children. You are the Purpose.
The faction war isn’t actually the principle focus of any of the expansions save MoP as none of them except MOP end on the note of the faction conflict and even then the traditional factions unit against a single threat.
Vanilla - were fighting but the old god and Naxx are more important.
TBC - Better unite to beat KJ amid our squabbles
WoTLK - omg we hate each other but let’s remember Arthas is big threat and Tyrion reinforces this.
Cata - Deathwing is the issue
MoP - let’s group up to fight Garrosh
WoD - better unite vs Iron Horde
Legion - don’t mind this skirmish let’s make sure we all go to Argus and stop the legion
BFA - yay a faction war expo, except when we realise this is pointless because Azshara and Zothy. Copious mentions of need to put aside differences
SL - what faction war
Honestly the faction war has only ever been a “backdrop thing” and has never commanded the overall story of an expo, and in more instances than that there is often a very clear lesson about how it needs to “be put away” for us to focus on the “real problem”
If this doesn’t tell people it’s just a waiting room gimmick that is in truth more clumsy and difficult to work around than not, I don’t know what would.
If the faction war was the source of all amazing plot lines you’d have it be, rather than it being shoved aside whenever the “real story” needs to be told. It’s simply something that is there to keep people amassed before the expo story kicks up a bit.
Even in expos where it was attempted to be the main feature, it doesn’t work because it would have to “end” by a side winning (which can’t happen due to both having players) or just randomly stop as a draw (which invalidates the gravity of the whole thing) as we saw with BFA, it’s just a pointless “you won this” “we won that” that never goes anywhere because it can’t.
So what ends up happening is it becomes about something beyond the faction war itself, as we saw in both MoP and BFA.
Sexualities etc. I don’t care at all. But teddybear safespace with the removal of stuff like /spit or forced censoring of communication between friends in bnet I hate.
I am fine with insisting the game maintains its core toxicity (which by the way, true story, inspired Steve Bannon to mobilize white rage, not even joking), if we agree to this - it is okay to bully people. It is okay to harass people. When you get harassed and bullied in game, support’s response should be “deal with it lmao” closing the ticket and banning you for 3 days for snitching.
Let’s go full toxic. We don’t want our games to be “SJW” now do we? We want them to be a bout… race wars. What in the hell xD OP’s a silly goose.
Club Penguin was way more memeable, mainly because the point there was that it was a kid’s game. Vanilla WoW was like… if only the trolls of club penguin played that game.
I just want to pewpew and slay dragons.
larping faction pride isnt a hate crime. its a form of primitive RP, acting. Playing a rogue isnt the same as commiting burglary. Game schould not reference tragic irl events and a fantasy game just does that. There was no sacking of Stormwind in irl. There was no Stalingrad battle in WoW.
if someone projects ally vs horde bgs to some irl violence they have confused fantasy setting with reality in their head. Professional mental health help is needed there. And thats a serious issue, i am not laughing here.
