Prismatic Manapearls and its RNG

Some rings a socket can beat a ring 40 Ils higher, yeah it’s what i said earlier. Everything combined made raiding gear pointless at this points and the entire system is broken. To ehar some specs only have 1 BiS in mythic raiding:(

Other words kill all bosses once, do the achievements then get the azerite that’s bis for you and you’re done. Now do WQ for other BiS or a simpel repuation in Mechagon.

You guys consider a socket only being 4% dps a minor gain, you play a whole different game than us if you believe that’s minor. Or how a 400 + socket ring simmed 1k dps higher for somebody than a 440.

Agreed, token can give all the gear option but no RNG socket. You get the socket by upgrading it. I wasted on my main 590 pearls, I got 0 of the 4 items I needed with a socket. Meanwhile this mage 1st and only wrist was socket… Yeah. Screw the system.

2 of the pieces even have BiS states for me, the other 2 are oke. Not bad not good but medicoore. So I’m practically forced to grind out the bracers witth the slow proc with a socket (120 mainstat of course) unless I go “Screw it I will do 3-4% less dps!”, not noly BiS stats but also a proc and socket. I wish I could transfer gear between alts, I would transfer the wrist on this (1st try, just wanted the mog) ASAP to it. So I can stop my gambling.

I am in the same situation. This character is the one I consider my main, but due to our melee heavy raid comp I am playing my hunter right now. He is still missing the bracer, and that is with me funneling two character’s worth of pearls into him.

In my case it is not something that is expected from us, yet I still gamble on because that 4% DPS increase from the 4 pieces, however minor, adds up in the long run.

For everyone saying it’s just a 4% increase, i’m not sure what you usually see, but that’s a very good dps increase, you won’t see much more than a 2 to 3 % increase if you don’t jump a tier of gear (normal to mythic). There are outlier for sure, but for items that are just stat sticks ( not azerite/trinkets) that’s a huge dps increase.

Apparently the game was not designed with priority for extreme BIS maximizers, but for people who are happy when they unexpectedly get an item with a bonus added.
There is a profound message in it, serving to wake people up a bit, if they are ready.

The more people demand that a game is changed in their convenient favor, the more it loses its magic and becomes a tool for the mind’s satisfaction. It will then feel like you’re using a screwdriver or a hammer.

There’s another profound lesson in this, regarding how RNG is tied into luck. The more you want to control, the less luck you can experience.

P.S.: I am someone who is not throwing his arms in the air over the Tortollan WQs. While they do have some minor design flaws, I find them otherwise quite alright.

I have no issue being loot locked for a boss fight every week and still not getting the BiS piece, because eventually I will get it by my fellow comrades (not Russian by the way) not needing it and it being distributed fairly in a proper guild manner. Unluck will always be part of the game and it is in fact in its core. But vendors always provided (pre-MoP I think, correct me if Im wrong, Im not sure whether MoP had gear vendors or not) the sensation of “completion” in terms of having a straight visible goal. Because right now in the game, there is RNG everywhere so believe me when I say that I, along with others that at least Ive spoken to, are more than happy to have more control and thereby experience less “luck”. Who the hell plays an RPG to feel lucky? Go and play casinos, theres a lot of legitimate websites for that and it will be more profitable for those people that love it!

The EA approach is not the way to go, and I started noticing it first back in Battlefield 3 where you had to open battlepacks in order to get certain locked-behind-packs attachments to weapons. At the time I was not too bothered because I played on a very casual level but when I saw an attachment I wanted I looked up what I had to do and once I killed like 10 players or whatever the mission was, I was happy that I could use the attachment. Satisfaction of completing a task for an item that I could further use to improve my gameplay. Sounds similar to me here to be quite honest. I want a task that I can clearly see and I will be more happy when it’s done.

I am currently on 3/4 pieces completed with socket for my shaman so people who said that “you’d get bored faster because you have nothing to do after” really had a far fetched idea of what a player who is playing lets say “several” hours a day can find to be creative and not bored.

Doing the turn in on every char today. with luck I’m getting now 40-50+ pearls a char. Just to convert them into tokens for the main… Will I get the socket? Maybe. No clear goal, heck having the socket like suggested by somebody else just to be able to be bought would have been a way better plan, or better yet not make it OP and let it serve as catch-up gear only instead where every dps wants 4 of them at 425+ socket because nothing else beats them.

they should remove that completely or that max item is 410 instead of 425 this is just grinding where there is no way that u will fail 425 it is just lot of harder content useless so normal raid and mythic + below +8 makes to be useless and lot of ppl which does not know even to walk will get 425 gear

Don’t mind the upgrable to 425 part (220 for a normal piece of 425) and 420 for a azerite pieces (430 base), it gives people something to aim for my personal grudge is how OP the wrists, boots, waist and hands are at 425+ socket. That it invalidates all gear drops fo their slots even in mythic.

but still should not be higher than 410 or 405 in that item level u are geared for mythic + and raid

Agreed considering normal difficulty of EP drops 415 a 410 limit serves it’s use as a catch-up mechanic. Can’t disagree with that. They did it with the crafted items from BS, tailoring and LW aswell. Tops 410 unless you enter the raid to unlock the 425 and later on 440 recipes.

So a few days later and 1850 manapearls spent (+/- 3 to 5 tokens), calculated by how many veiled crystals I had in the end (370) I finally got 4/4 BiS pieces for elemental shaman. In total I had 7 level 120 characters unlocking Nazjatar excluding my shaman.

I felt happy not because I got the last piece but because I knew that I never have to do this bullcrap ever again (at least in Nazjatar) versus what could be a happy situation because I got my pieces instead. See the difference Blizzard? For all I knew, I would log tomorrow again to do the same thing over and over again. Like I stated before, since I need to repeat for people who don’t really read every post (I understand): I don’t mind the grind. The grind has been there for a long time every since they started this game, but what I do mind is the RNG ontop of RNG ontop of less important RNG:

  1. Getting the correct piece RNG
  2. Getting a socket RNG (this is where the problem starts)
3 Getting extra secondary stat (this point is less significant than the other two)

Please for future systems, just make items fully upgradeable by currency to maximum BIS or just simply remove the option of it to forge. Either remove the RNG one way or the other. If this was truly a catcup-mechanic that was implemented then remove sockets in the future. But personally, I would love to see vendors coming back to the game and that’s why I am actually happy to see manapearl vendors in this patch, because it’s going in the right direction that WoW once was on. No one benefits from RNG, but from static reward everyone benefits whether you are a normal, heroic or mythic player. Seeing goals clearly is the key to people’s “satisfactional” happiness.

Are you sure mate? my shoulders cost 350 Pearls to upgrade from 420 to 425

Probably because they are main set pieces (head, shoulder and chest, azerite). They cant socket anyways so excluding those on the cost list.

Other than that the prices are taken from wowhead and yes to prime who said the first step costs 20 and not 5, you were right!

900 on main alone spent alone and I have… drums 1! And it’s the worst one so I’m not upgrading till I get bracers first. Opened for mog 1 bracer set on mage and got them there.

Well I’m sorry to hear that it’s taking you such a long time. But this is kind of a side point as well, why should I deserve to get them before you do? It’s simply unfair. Best of luck though!

We were discussing it in guild, it’s funny how catch up gear for alts turned into using alts to farm gear tokens to funnel to your main to get the right piece that is good for the raid.
