The TRP descriptions are primarily for the user, not for others. That’s just a bonus.
Don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet because I can’t be bothered to read 200 messages, but beyond the typical function of seeing what someone’s character/RP is about for walk-ups, TRP is also an incredibly versatile tool when you’re playing an NPC character.
You don’t have to repeat your description over and over again to remind your players and can even change your presentation on the fly pretty quickly. That all allows you to keep the flow in RP, rather than having to get everyone on the same page first regarding whatever your NPC is a stand-in for.
I would argue that the game’s narrative shift towards the Alliance Commander being the center of the universe - yet somehow also being a grunt doing all the heavy lifting - did that just as well.
Suddenly the canon of the game diverted into several threads, making it a pain in the neck to simply RP with people. Bit of a shame really as I did have my share of fond RP events and friends, but such is life.
But I digress. I hope this PTR stuff doesn’t make it to live, for obvious reasons.
How does this make any sense? If it was just for me, I’d keep it in a google document. I’m relying helpful information to other roleplayers, that is the primary function.
Some people really self report that they don’t write what others put to the page
I can edit and change it at any moment I want in WoW, so I don’t need to have it saved elsewhere (though for some reason many people seem to have their TRP wiped, never happened to me).
It’s like your character sheet in DND. While it is a tool for others, I find it primarily used by me when I need to be reminded about a character’s history, features etc.
I don’t really read people’s TRP’s so maybe I’m the weird one here. I only ever skim over the name most of the time.
I suppose one can get very far with no character information if all one roleplays is the exact character the game provided. But even then, people will still link certain appearances to certain character traits and perform their own bias. It doesn’t lead to good roleplay, in my experience.
All good.
UPDATE: Recent WoWHead post covers Blizzard has addressed the addon throttling, and it will be fixed before Patch day!
Damn you’re quick.
Yesh, it’s a bug, apparently;

Glad they got it out quickly that it was just a bug instead of letting the people cook over it throughout the week.
