Eh… because of nude mods they ban all mods ?
ye i guess its easy to detect and ban you for using any modification to the game then to single out the nude mod them self the community brought it on them self they posted this stuff on reddit and violated the dont ask dont tell and broke the relaxed attuide the dev team had towards mods
From what I can gather it still remains a don’t ask don’t tell - there isn’t any way that SE can detect ACT unless people start bringing up DPS discussions in the in game chat.
ye they was talked about making a new system to do that i expect a lot of i was wrongfully banned threads to pop up
Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me
Lets leave aside whole FF and wow dps part, we disagree there a bit, but lets that be there.
In wow you get banned for editing game files, This is not allowed. But UI elements can be edited and Blizzard can ban us using any feature on UI as they want and they have done it before (i.e. interactive maping in raids we had in ICC, or the auto heals in vanilla).
In another game (Bethesda’s 76) you can also edit game files and run even nude if you like. They don’t care. They even take a mod and try to implement one as feature in coming patches. But edited files in that game do not load in battleroyale mode without 3rd party tools which is bannable offence.
So I think that FF approach - swing with one hit is a bit awkward. And likely not techical, but a bit lazy. but in the end of the day - each developer makes their own rules and players when log into their games agree to follow those. We can debate it and think of it as we will, but developers games, developers rules.
I still think that wow community is not more toxic, but we are allowed to express more. I.e. 76 community has been seen very friendly, but because they have very-very-very strict moderating rules. You cannot call other ‘n00b’ and you get warning. You cannot say hashtag-something, you get warning. You cannot even make a public joke about bethesda, you get banned. Here I can at least make a joke about Blizzard and their greed. I may even get a community manager give a like for the joke.
People are same, just rules of engagement may differ somewhere…
I agree OP player power should be removed from Covenents.
well more like there no real chat in 76 other then voice so ye and everyone has that turned off
True in sense that their community is generally built via Discord/Reddit/forums whereas wow/FF have communities building up also in-game.
but overall the pessimist in me thinks people are all same everywhere Admitted except Overwatch and Cod communities. Those scare me
i don’t play those so i dunno about them i play wow, ff 14, bdo, 76
I have only briefly had contact with those scary things. Only thing i know about BDO is that i know exactly nothing
word of advice … remain ignorant about bdo … its a beautiful but shallow game i fish in bdo while i play wow the gaming community call it the ultimate afk game
An old gamer friend plays it for the models. But says that getting their ship (I think it was a ship?) was like day job.
And then here I complain that had to log in every day for few weeks for my flying in 8.2
76 isn’t really in a position to be scaring away players is it.
Why u even talk with troll that doesnt even play any relevant content so covenants doesnt affect him…
And rofl for playing 76,paying for B crap
The devs do not often seem to understand that they are offering a ongoing service and the players pay for it.
They inherited an established and successful franchise and their first priority should be to avoid breaking it for the sake of feeling they left their mark on it.
Other media like movies and TV series have the same problems with established series.
If they want a creative license they should work on a new IP like when CDPR went from Witcher 3 to Cyberpunk instead of constantly milking them same IP dry.
The breaking of the things that were not broke started with MoP and has been accelerating ever since.
If they want WoW to be more of an RPG again they need to make it less competitive with easier PvE content, no ratings, no special person rewards etc.
what is the benefit of having this much player power locked behind covenants though?
they should be a choice that you can identify with and that you like the aesthetics and story of rather than one you are forced to make because blizzard cant balance these systems.
They operate under the fallacy that if it is harder to be optimized, then nobody will care about getting optimized people.
It shows how little they play their own game.

Every argument against covenants can be made for classes too. On paper, classes have no right to work. And there’s classes that you level up, have fun with, only to find they’re complete trash at endgame and you need to reroll. Why can’t a warrior sneak? Sneaking is very powerful, maybe I want access to that power. Why should it be locked behind another class?
I think the main problem with covenants is how they were framed. I think if Blizz said “we’re adding 4 subclasses and you need to pick one”, then everything would’ve gone so much better, because subclasses are an MMO staple.
