My guild is currently recruiting to boost our ranks. So I’ve created a post in the in-game guild finder, and set it active. Someone applied from a different server, is this right? So the advertisement is X-realm, but you can’t invite people from other realms to your guild? Is this a mistake, a slip up or have I done something wrong myself?

I do not think that there is anything wrong. E.g. the server I used to play on was announced for closure by blizz half a year ago, so we all moved away - old server is still up and running. Now from time to time people who had a break log on to that server, it is almost empty and they start looking around. They can apply via guild finder and transfer afterwards. Happened to us also. It is okay, isn’t it. They would not meet anybody if the guild finder would be only for their own realm.
It’s because that system was taken over from retail, where you can invite people cross realm.
In classic it’s not possible, but they didn’t adapt the guildfinder tool.
