Resto druid is the easiest spec in the game

What is there to learn? They’re basically trying to maintain a relative power balance between 36 specs in an environment that’s constantly changing vis á vis gear, strategies, trends, player activity, and so on.
I mean, they obviously try given the sheer volume of balance changes they constantly implement. So the game balance inevitably is what it is – and let’s be fair, people always complain about balance, so maybe it’s also a question of expectations. Ask people who many good Seasons there’s been and they’ll name 3-5…out of 27! So maybe people should lower their expectations a bit?

Sure, that too. I mean, the class balance has to account for countless game modes and activities today, which inevitably limits the design space for balancing any single mode or activity. But that’s the nature of the beast. WoW is ultimately an MMORPG and not just a Multiplayer PvP game.

Not really. I mean, Legion did exactly that – separate PvE and PvP balance as much as the designers wanted. But it has some unfortunate side-effects, which is why they’ve dialed that separation back a bit in BfA (bye bye templates and disabled gear effects and what not).

Sure, there’s a complete extreme where PvP is treated like a completely different game, but that’s not really feasible given that WoW is an MMORPG, so it shouldn’t feel like you’re playing a totally different game just because you queue up for PvP.

They work with the constraints the game presents.

False.

10 characters.

Not false.

So they went down this road, by their own admission. And Legion shows that clearly as well.

False.

They stated in a Q&A a year after that that they don’t want to separate the impressions.

You do realise you’re interpreting their tailored announcements literally, right? There’s a limit to how gullible you should be.

It’s true that the system allows for it. But they choose not to utilize it to the fullest. Because of that reason: impressions.

Yeah I’m not expecting Blizzard to try and balance their games anymore. It just doesn’t happen, and has never happen.

By maintaining you mean that they design them and internally test them for about 10 minutes and slap them into the game, telling us to deal with it cause it wont be changing. Maybe not 100% true, but this is how I feel the game design works with pvp.

The volume of balance changes are kinda low, compared to games that actually try to keep it balanced. I would love to know how many balance patches they have announced since 8.1 rolled out. Dota 2 in comparison made huge patches (huge compared to wow patches) every 2 weeks to maintain and change the balance for their game while hotfixing stuff daily.
Wow has 1 patch per month max, and it changes 1 or 2 things.

Wow pvp will never be balanced because Blizzard doesn’t care about balance. How hard is it to make small changes to things that seem kinda broken. (resto druids, necrotic strike and chaos bolt for example)

C’mon dude. Legion had so much PvP-independent design it should be impossible to miss.

DIsabled trinket effects, set bonuses, legendary powers, artifact weapon traits. Inclusion of character templates and a system to nullify the value of gear and turn item levels into a percentage-increase to overall power. And a PvP Honor talent system specific for PvP.

That, on top of all the PvP-specific class balance changes and tweaks, is seperating PvP from PvE as much as WoW allows.

So they’ve obviously explored this path. And BfA has lots of PvP-specific design and balance as well. PvP-specific class balance changes are a norm today, whereas a few expansions ago they were almost non-existent.

This seems to be your biggest hickup. It isn’t the furthest WoW allows. Arena tournament realms is the limit, where it is possible to design classes purely for PvP. In other words, a complete separation.

What you will always have on the live servers is just a middleground tilting one way or the other at all times, but never all the way to either.

You haven’t thought that maybe the problem’s with you rather than the spec? The players don’t just magically die if you don’t act accordingly after them making a mistake.
It’s a case of git gud, case closed.

Then why aren’t you just enjoying the game for what it is, instead of QQing about the developers’ inability to make it even better?

Well the fast response time on PvP balance changes is because players demand that. A quick look at these forums should reveal that players are expecting balance fixes now! now! now! No one in the community seems to want Blizzard to take their time and be conservative with changes. Quite the contrary, there’s a constant demand for more balance changes - and drastic ones even.

Really? I find that surprising. I’d say the rate of PvP changes is so high that it’s hard to even keep up with them all. A meta in PvP exists for barely a few weeks these days before there’s another round of changes that shakes everything up again.
I find that to be in stark contrast to other PvP games, be it Overwatch, LoL, or DOTA2, where the changes don’t distupt the meta game from evolving naturally for a much longer period of time.

Okay sure, they could always just split PvP off from WoW and design it as a completely seperate game. But that’s obviously not desirable for a million reasons and more. I don’t even know why you entertain that thought, besides for argument’s sake.

Cuz it’s obviously better with all the problems stemming from the mix of it all, right?

Arena tournie realms were a thing once. They weren’t designed differently per se back then, because there was enough distractions keeping players happy regardless.
But it doesn’t need to be completely separated, you know? Account-wide achievements makes it possible to get rewards on the “regular” servers after having earned it on the PvP server(s). There are many ways they can intertwine the creation of characters on those realms (or copy of characters, w/e way it would be), so that it remains connected to what you’ve achieved on the “regular” realms as well.

The fundamental problem is that PvP is taking too much of a backseat for it to be enjoyable on a competitive level, which has been a downward spiral for several expansions now. The amount of complaints have reflected how unhappy PvP:ers have become over the expansions too. All stemming from the same fundamental problem.

Not to mention the social utility of providing servers where everyone is playing for the same purpose.

Cause this is by far the worst pvp season I have ever played.

Well overwatch is one of the Blizzard games that is just awful with balancing right in par with wow. I haven’t played it in 6 months cause I got bored of it so I have no idea how it is now.
The thing with lol and Dota is that when those get balanced they do small changes, like removing 1 intelligence from a hero in Dota isn’t going to change the game, but it might make it more balanced. Compare that to Blizzards patching with 50% less mana regen and stuff like that. All I’m asking for is small changes to balance the game.

They could do small fixes and make the game more balanced over time. Instead they throw the 50% around like a mad man.

Now there’s a sentence I haven’t heard before…

Nice way to seg way, broski. Now scroll up a bit and say whether or not you see the reasoning behind why I “entertain that thought”.

every season I played since first season I hear this

Drae however is advocating nerfs for Restro druid himself.

But Nuvic on the other hand is the Kelduril of druids, yeah.

I had some things to do. Contrary to popular belief, then I’m not paid to reply to people’s posts. I respond to what I want, when I want.
I care not for the discussion on PvP becoming a separate game on its own. I’ve had that discussion many times in the past. I consider it far-fetched and unrealistic, and there’s no indication it’ll ever happen (hasn’t happened yet!), so it’s pointless to entertain the thought. No offense.

Yeah, it was a somewhat sarcastic remark. It’s almost meme around here how every season is the worst one to date, and how every expansion is the worst one ever.
It’s like the ultimate expression of criticism of PvP. Just a bit overused. :yum:

I agree with Drae, if all changes she suggested are implemented not 1-2 alone. What Tom is saying like 20% stamina nerf is a joke.

how do you suggest feral affinity is fixed then?

How about they remove drinking in stealth for druid first, then visit stuff like destro locks first then we talk about feral affinity.
