RP Horror Stories

I tend to ignore it or if they are really pushy, I just magically happen to have it and goodbye, see you never.

I did once get arrested by Kirin Tor in Duskwood, they were pretty chill about me escaping from prison through trickery so i’ve kept a note in my TRP as a wanted dalaran criminal ever since, no one has tried to capture me again so :dracthyr_shrug:

Some two years ago I was in Orgrimmar, first on my Warlock, then on my Merc.

While my Warlock was chatting with another Orc in the Valley of Honor, a hooded elven figure approached them and tried to chat them up. At least I thought they were an elf, until I read “Succubus in disguise” in their TRP. The disguise was a cloak and a hood. My Warlock, being the old and experienced Orc that he is, sniffed the demon stench and told her to return to the Cleft of Shadow, lest he call the guards.

But this Succubus persisted and went on about how “she is not like other Succubi” and how “she just wants to live in peace”. Mine and the other person’s Orc repeatedly urged her to return to the Cleft, soon under threats of violence. This made her go away for the time being, but smelling the fishy quality of the character we decided not to check whether or not they actually went to the Cleft.

So we resumed our chat and I eventually logged off to take care of real life things. Later I decided to check out Orgrimmar on my Pandaren mercenary, instead.

Lo and behold, the Succubus hath returned. This time others had confronted her by the time I arrived, among them a Sin’dorei Demon Hunter who seemed rather ill-tempered. A fight breaks out against the Succubus, who, as more and more people started siding against them in the middle of the Valley, turned into a “Hellhound”. She tanked everything and kept pleading that she was just an innocent demon who wants to have fun, unable to grasp the concept that demons are just not allowed to run around in a city.

At some point my merc whipped out her single-shot scattergun sidearm in favour of her spear and fired it at the Hellhound’s side, which they ended up acknowledging as “the bullet (singular) getting stuck in her hide”.

Upon pointing out in whispers that it’s more like a cone of pellets rather than a single bullet, she ranted at me about my “elitism”, called me a PCU (singular) and berated me for trying to control her character, apparently, before promptly blocking me.

Granted, it was probably dumb of me to engage in the first place but memories like this always remind me why I’ve happily avoided going to Orgrimmar for the last 2 years.

Right where’s the nearest brick.

GOD I am so tired of that warlock licence :poop:

Ah. Didn’t know about the grace period. I never fell victim to it myself (mainly because I kinda knew the player from the dwarven RP scene and his penchant for shenanigans like these), but I do recall seeing the messages in the chat by those who did.

Reminds me of another incident where an Ice Troll was about to get kicked out, only for some priest to barrier him from the violent locals. Then a gang of peons showed up and started digging under the barrier to lift both miscreants up within it.

Orgrimmar was used to be a treat when the HoC was around to interact with. Too bad 80% of the locals treated their Grunt work as some affront to their OOC wellbeing.

Reminds me of when I first tried to dip my toes back into Horde RP in MoP after only very briefly doing it in WoTLK before. I made a troll I quite liked as she was a fun character for me.

One of my first encounters in Orgrimmar was with a bunch of other trolls. Suddenly a “brother” to one of the present people showed up as a hulking Drakkari berserker cannibal. My character questioned how they were even in the city in the first place, and was told they had been pardoned by the warchief. I still questioned it and was skeptical and was then immediately told in OOC brackets how I was a bully for stiffening their creativity and I was elitist with a barrage of insults.

Why is it always Ice Trolls lol

People don’t like to admit it but the Hand of Conquest made Orgrimmar lively. They provided roleplay. Even if many didn’t agree with the concept of guard RP in general or their guard RP in particular, people still kept interacting, if only to get a kick out of messing with them. It’s those same people who, after the Thirteenth abandoned the city, had nothing to do but loiter on the Wyvern’s Tail front porch all evening. They hated the Hand of Conquest, but little did they know that they needed them.

Not to mention that their mere presence scared away the bottom of the barrel for the longest time.

To contribute to the thread in a meaningful manner, I’ve found chronomancy and far seer detective RP an absolute bane to deal with, particularly when it’s just metagaming with a few extra steps.

My guild members and myself had regularly posted on Argent Archives about their misdeeds, usually as personal diary entries, inner monologues or confidential reports.

Some Mages and Lawful Good enthusiasts took these as their queue to pilfer through them and then rock up to my guild’s members. Their reasoning? They traced our movements and actions by heading to the locations we held events at and used magic to go back in time and experience everything firsthand. Strangely it was only the events and scenarios that were available to be read on AA.

Naturally this occurred without a single headsup or an attempt to communicate OOC with me or the guild members, so it was dismissed, along with their claims that all our characters are exiled, under arrest, demoted and/or a bounty issued for our heads. At the very least we learned not to post anything on AA and use wards that block chronomatic rituals.

That in turn reminds me of an instance of “lore figure gave me permission” earlier this year. Some low effort Dracthyr guild had set their sights on Dawn’s Blossom and the GM started proclaiming that they own the tavern there now. One fine evening, a few of us Pandaren roleplayers went to investigate. This person tried to argue that they bought the deed from the mayor and even beckoned us along to talk to them, presumably to emote the mayor NPC confirming this dubious purchase.

That day, about 20 - 25 Pandaren roleplayers from various guilds and communities banded together, logged on their Serpentrider and Shado Pan alts (because every Pandaren main has one for some reason) and rallied in Dawn’s Blossom. Cue the Dracthyr GM going “AFK” while there are two dozen heavily armed Pandaren standing in a circle around them. They seemed to have gotten the message.

Later we learned that one or two of their own guildmates disagreed with the GM’s wack tavern-claiming RP and left that guild shortly thereafter. The GM tried to do the same thing in Sri’la Village a few days later, but that just fizzled out as far as I know.

Add on True Sight to that too
Everyone and their mother seems to have the capacity to see through any illusionary disguise so it makes RPing something like a demon REALLY annoying (Unless you can Shapeshift)

And for some reason True Sight via the Light is… Something someone claims their character can have IC

Using the Light to see through stuff (When in reality the Light can only really give the person a means to see far off places)

There’s a very easy cure for that: Don’t mention you’re a demon in your TRP profile, apart from some vague one liner about how your character stinks of sulfur. If anyone asks why you smell that way (IC or OOC) you have the power to continue that interaction by admitting they are Demonic OR tell them that you haven’t washed for over a week after visiting Felwood. If they say their true sight should be good enough to detect whether you’re a demon, you can tell them that’s clearly not the case.

This realm has a staggering number of people thinking RP is a matter of competition. Just don’t give them ammunition.

not even shapeshifting is safe. In SW I had a criminal Rogue character - who uses her human side to appear as a kind and saintly noble, and then her Worgen appearance to commit crimes - using two separate TRP’s to sell the idea

decided to try out criminal sw rp for the first time in months, Worgen managed to escape a guard, transform into a human and go about her day - only to be godemoted into being caught several hours later in the night because of her ‘scent’ - even though there was nothing to indicate such lmao. The only indication was the toon’s actual name, since I RP both TRP’s on the same toon.

was a real feelsbadman moment ngl

From personal experiences, 99.8% of the time people have mentioned in their TRP that they are a demon, dragon, creature or “Human???” its specifically to draw attention to it as they want to be found out that they are special.

Remind me to open the goodie bag of self horror stories from my early days when I would RP in goldshire as made up elven subraces and gnomes as children.
in the cursed old days of TBC and early Wotlk that is.

Oh yeah I do that with my demon, since it’s shapeshifting they can’t easily be rumbled
Though they do have that sus fel taint that might make someone squint but can be explained off.

This. It’s a hassle to write up two RP profiles for sure, but if it’s between controlling the narrative or having faith in others being on their best behaviour, I always opt for control.

Yeah two TRPs is a godsend
Got one for my San’layn, one for her Velf disguise too.

Ditto.

And the funniest part is that once they were gone and the RP devolved to what it did (Keti Caravan), they were blamed for having ruined the RP in Orgrimmar.

Damned if you did, damned if you didn’t. At least they got what they wished for, in the end. Now they are gone and so is all the RP in Orgrimmar.

Can’t say I pity them.

This feels like one of those moments in skyrim where you murder someone and nobody else but a chicken on a horse sees you, but they somehow rat you out to the guards lmao.
