If the sponsorship money came from rmt then the recipient benefitted from rmt. Not hard.
Firstly, who really cares about RWF anymore?
Secondly, it’s not an Official element of content so Blizz won’t really care that much.
Thirdly, don’t watch it if you feel such companies shouldn’t be shown any support.
Highlighting it in a Thread here is another way you can have impact as long as you post following the rules.
I’ve never cared about RWF and have never watched. I’m familiar with some of the guild names but not sure who won this year (don’t care).
But if the company makes their money from RMT doesn’t that also apply to the guild by proxy? I mean “No Blizz, we don’t do RMT, our friends do and they just give us the money”. Its definitely a grey area at best.
Also this is just a question I was curious about, I’m not that interested in the drama.
All Blizzard can do is express their disapproval. Action against the RMT company is an entirely different story but they are certainly now on Blizzard’s radar.
You’re right, from a strict rule perspective, it’s probably tough to pinpoint exactly which rule Blizzard could use to sanction the guild. At least without clear proof of direct RMT transactions.
However, this isn’t just about having a concrete rule to point to, but maintaining the integrity of the game. Think of it like a sports league: if a team is sponsored by a company involved in scummy activities, the league might not have a direct rule against that company, but they can still choose to distance themselves from the situation to protect the reputation of the sport.
Perhaps you have now answered your own question as to why Blizzard has just kept mum about the situation.
You might not care about the RWF, and that’s fine, but plenty of people still do. Blizzard included. They may not officially run the event, but they still benefit from the hype, + engagement it generates. If they truly didn’t care, they wouldn’t promote it, feature RWF guilds in interviews, or acknowledge world first kills in their content.
Saying “Just don’t watch it” is a) lazy and b) completely misses the point. This isn’t just about the race, it’s about Blizzard allowing an RMT company to be promoted through a high profile event, despite RMT being explicitly against their own ToS. If a player buys gold or services from the same company sponsoring a top guild, they risk bans or account penalties.
So why is Blizzard fine with that same company getting exposure through an event they indirectly support?
If you have more dismissive comments that add nothing to the issue, feel free to keep them to yourself.
I dont know what your beef is with those companies.
The reason why RMT are in the ToS to begin with is to give Blizz a legal tool to persecute and ban them. Not to be some “moral police”.
But fact of the matter still remains: That RMT company got their sponcership money from SOMEWHERE. Someone payed already some $$ for some service before the RTWF even began.
Ask the players WHY they give money to them. Dont blame the company.
I can give you a ton of RW equivalents of illegal money dealings that exist. And will ALWAYS exist. As long as there is a demand for them. And if you dont like them, then address the demand, not the supply.
You can’t ban people by association lmao
“RMT will always exist, so just accept it and blame the players instead”. By that logic, Blizzard should just stop enforcing bans altogether since someone will always break the rules.
Yeah, you got me. I wake up every morning filled with uncontrollable rage at pixel gold sellers.
That’s like saying, banks shouldn’t go after money launderers because people chose to give them dirty money in the first place
No. That is like saying :
Why are so many people hanging arround with dirty money and not paying taxes ? Maybe address that issue?
Or why are there Oligarcs with so much illigal drug money? Who are they selling this to?
Let me put it this way. Should the police act against robbers? YES.
But after that one should ask the following question: Why is it that there are so many robers? Maybe because 40% of the population is unemployed and the other 60% live under the poverty line. Maybe THAT is a reason why there are so many roberies.
And if you improve living conditions of people, then there will be less roberies. But more law enforcement 100% will not reduce that number.
Same with Boosting services. Should blizzard enforce the ToS? YES.
But after that, one whould ask the following question: WHy is it that there are so many people asking for boosts? Maybe because they put obsenly good rewards behind a raid. Maybe THAT is the reason why people want to pay $$ to get some obsenly good items.
And if they improve access to such items to the general player base, then there will be less boosting going on. And then, the RMT companies will go bankrupt and wont have money to spend on a RTWF.
That is a more effective policy than crying “boosting bad” and demand blizzard more ToS enforcement which is what you are doing. Utterly useless crybaby attitude that will not acheive anything usefull. That is how idiots like Trump get voted into office. Because people cant have a modicle of common sense in a game. Let alone in RL.
SEE ???
i dont know much about it.
but i do know one thing,
90% of wow players and guilds that are playing wow in my country are all Gold sellers.
working with IRGS.
and they dont even know it
I’m not in the loop, I checked Liquid, Echo, and Method, I don’t think the rest even matters in terms of RWF, didn’t see any sponsors that were more scummy than others. Liquid is being sponsored by crypto, that what you talking about?
They can (obligatory lmao).
Go read the ToS. They can ban you if your mog looks funny if the mood takes them.
All the people helping with split runs are just being paid from RMT gold instead of token gold. Blizz can take action after that I’m guessing.
If they cared that is.
They can not only ban you without any reason, they can also deny/ignore your appeals which you have a limited number of.
I mean echo/method used to do RMT carries and I’m pretty sure Limit (Liquid or however they are called now) did them as well. I am not convinced that they stopped either.
That’s still against tos if it’s for real money
Buying a key for a game is not against ToS as far as I’m aware.
Oh you mean like an expansion code. I was thinking m+ key
Yea, thats where they make their money! Wink wink!
