When I killed off this character
I lost the capacity for sadness long ago, so the closest thing is probably ruse I ran a while back for many months finally coming to an end in a rather emotional and Greek tragedy style of conclusion.
Borvin and Theo giving eachother their final goodbyes after reminiscing on their time together, complete with Tolkien approved manly tears and hugs.
Seeing my brethren weep over my broken body. R.I.P Tholgord Kindlebeard.
Killing off my blood knight and then realizing I’ll never RP on AD again.
You all return eventually.
Don’t forget.
You’re here forever.
It’s basically been a year and a half (minus one month to get the Argus stuff done, much regret) and with BfA being the expansion it is (personally I can’t -just- RP to justify playing an MMO) my desire to return, even if I wanted to, is zero, and for the forseeable future at that (IRL and lack of faith in the game).
Sorry, don’t want to come off as melodramatic, just wanted to dispell the notion (I’ve seen those leaving threads).
You will be back. It may not be tomorrow, or even this year. But you’ll be back.
Everyone has tried to leave once or twice, but they never truly manage it…
I laughed way too hard at this.
Oh yes, I’ve sniffled at so many RP moments over the years.
During one of the pre-Legion campaigns in Hillsbrad, being overwhelmed by demons from all sides, and the heroic death of a character who was with us for roughly 8 years, speaking a blessing over the others with her last breath, so that we might hold out and live. Then my character and the fallen character’s betrothed jumping from the bridge into the mass of demons below, determined to reclaim her body. We managed to do so but got utterly lost and cornered in the fray, until an Arathorian character Gaeb clashed with immensely in the previous days, emerged on the battlements above us to shout directions to us, so that we safely managed to escape. And then the mutual respect for each other that came after that, for the remainder of the campaign. Then I also recall Gaeb launching himself at a commander suggesting they’d leave the dead behind to rot as they retreated, and everyone trying to restrain him to avoid a brawl haha. And finally the ceremony and burning of the dead on the pyres at Stromgarde. It was beautiful.
Also the death of of one of our Seneschals, during the first realm campaign on AD we attended. She was captured amongst many others, and held in some ruined fortress. When ultimately the ruins were assaulted and the prisoners were released, we learned that she was dead, hanged by I believe Hand of Agony, as an example for trying to lead an escape which was swiftly suppressed. Then raised into undeath, and later return as a villain in some storylines for us. And the horror, it was my character’s fault, for sending her and others in too few numbers, to the place she was ultimately captured. Such lovely drama.
Also another one, way back at my old server. It was a RP-PVP campaign in Arathi, where our guild held a strategic outpost at the Boulder’gor Hills for two days straight against insane odds (the outcomes of the PVP battles were predetermined by the campaign DM’s, by dice rolls). Then during one moment one of ours strayed too far from the others to see if the coast was finally cleared, and promptly got assassinated by stealthed Deathstalkers**, and the character, who was with us for 3 or 4 years, instantly died to the shock of us all. And again as a commander, it was my character’s fault for not sending others along. But the dramatic sappy moment came later that eve when we carried her body back to Stromgarde where at that point all the Alliance had gathered, and this huge crowd parted before us in silence as we took her body to the chapel to be consecrated before burning. So much lovely drama, I have many more stories but no more time haha.
**For even more tragedy, one of said Deathstalkers was a former member of ours, also raised into undeath!
Unfortunately all my saddest moments in RP as great as they were have become retconned due to eventual OOC issues with people involved that I couldnt find an IC excuse for so I had to just write them out of my stories.
But it mostly boils down to family members being pushed into horrible and desperate situations, people dying or near-dying.
Sisters that get injured badly and have to be desperately carried to a healer by my small and rather weak character who can barely move them which just makes the sad desperation even more intense.
Lots of stuff thats hit me hard OOC, shame it all eventually went down the drain.
Last but one night of the Redridge campaign, after all the Yas went through with Averdale, being told by a crushed and apologetic Brigante that the intel we’d received was bogus and he hadn’t actually killed Iolanthe, just taken the credit for it. That was such an utter gut-punch, it broke me.
Oof too many, let me think of a few,
As a character, it would have to be the event that was simply titled ‘Camlann’ where the Sun Hawks had to take down the ‘King of All Skies’ Red Right Hand and champion. Non other than the abducted, aged and indoctrinated Asharion Summerisle, Brigante’s Son. Sad as a character, but obviously as a player I knew it was coming.
As a player, hmm…
The one Yas mentioned was brutal, and our collective reactions.
The death of some NPC’s I had lovingly used for years, at the culmination of the ‘King of All Skies’ plot, a rag tag coalition who aided the Sun Hawks in bringing that Demon down. If it wasn’t bad enough that an actual Character died as the Nethership plummeted to the earth, we emerged to find that the actual cost in lives had been far more catastrophic than we thought. ‘Jon’jin’, the human who had went Native in Stranglethorn and actually managed to earn the acceptance and eventual -leadership- of a small Troll tribe. (Yes, think Colonel Kurtz from ‘Apocalypse Now’, that’s exactly what he was based on), “Do we remember him as Lieutenant Jonathan Parker? or…” “Do what cha like Elf, He died as Jon’jin” almost the entirety of the non-partisan but honourable mercenary company ‘Dieter’s Wildcats’, the Litany of the dead was immense, and one of our chaps, still clutching the severed head of his brother that the Demon had hurled at him in spite.
Bleak times…
The ‘Wretched Factory’ (Pretty sure people can guess what -that- was all about)
BUt hey, wouldn’t be RP without the downs as well as the ups. Some fun reads here…
When Pumbo was bullied in Orgrimmar, that was truly a sad day indeed.
DAT IT
WHOEVER BULLY PUMBO, WOMP GONNA UNLEASH 2% OF HIS POWER ON YOU
Come back so your character can be killed off again, your stories are the only things that make me feel the feelsy feels.
Edit: Honestly the space between the Fall of Undercity and the small memorial event afterwards.
That the Horde beat me to burning down Teldrassil. That was MY idea, you thieves!
