Screen shake on certain abilites since Legion (Causing nausea)

Hello.

Ever since Legion the screen has been shaking very subtle - It’s not noticed until it’s noticed really.
Since there is no command known to stop this or a option to disable it I decided to create this thread so make it go away.

Me and others have nausea while playing games and this does give me nausea unfortunately even if it its subtle, its noticable.
I’ve tried writing on forums and i’ve seen others write as well, I’ve put in a ticket, no action cam or addons has been tested and sent in a bug report, but nothing since Legion.

I want this to be an option in Shadowlands - it causes me not to play certain classes/specs.

Forum posts:

Bluepost: I can confirm that this is intended. It was changed in legion with some of the new camera functions we added then. Happens on my melee classes as well. You’ll want to go to the #guides:ui-macro forums to see if anybody knows if a console variable or LUA script can disable them, otherwise you can leave feedback in #community:general-discussion.

Other abilites causing this: Crusader’s Strike, Templar’s Verdict, Mortal Strike, Slam, Earthquake (When it crits), Earth shock, melee crit, Rock Biter, Lava Lash, Stormstrike.
Probably a lot more but these I remember now.

This is the 10th time you have posted this thread on various forum sections in the last few months. You had a blue response on one of them so perhaps you missed that?

I have, because I’ve yet found an answer.

Blue post has confirmed “I can confirm that this is intended. It was changed in legion with some of the new camera functions we added then. Happens on my melee classes as well. It’s not the same bluepost as the one you posted.

All I want is to remove nausea, since the bluepost you posted said " Actual screen shaking (outside a select few dungeon/raid-boss abilities) should however usually not happen" is a lie, therefor I want something to remove it.

I’m also not the first to post these, I have multiple posts from different players too.

I take it you have tried /console actioncam off to try and fix it?

I found that after 20 seconds searching google.

I take it that it also does it when you do UI reset, by renaming your WTF, Interface and Cache folders. You can tell it’s worked if you get the intro movie when you start up the game.

Having checked out the videos you linked, I can see there is a wiggle of the camera when using the special ability and im working on an assumption its intended because the ability being used is supposed to emulate quite a powerful hit.

Through these forums though there is not much we can really do as we blue’s are not developers nor do we have the ability to fix or change anything. The best option to get your voice heard on this is to use the in game suggestion feature. You can find this by opening the game menu and clicking the help button.

That way this goes directly to the developers that work on the game. Just to set expectations, this is not a guarantee that a change will happen, just a guarantee that the people that have the ability to consider this will see it.

That’s a shame, I’ve been using that in-game report since Legion.

Guess I wont be playing any of these classes then

Did you try to type command that Dottie gave you?

I don’t think they even read my post.

Yeah, it’s not a action cam feature…
I stated it in my post.

Is it as a bluepost said in one thread by another player a feature that was added in Legion with the new spell animations.

I just wish to remove it, should be a command somewhere. I’ve tried advance interface options but I didn’t manage to find anything

The thing is turning off addons is not the same as a UI reset. The setting changes those addons make are still there. If it does it after a full UI reset, not turning addons off, then there is no way to stop the shake.

If I’m honest I have never noticed the shake. Do you play in overhead mode all the time? As in one of the videos shown.

That’s ironic.

It has nothing to do with addons or environment variables. AdvancedInterfaceOptions will, as the OP implies, expose the variables among which the OP could not find a setting that removes the shaking. It is not the action cam.

I have never used the action cam. I have it confirmed off. It’s there fore me as well.

The shake is so small I couldn’t see it on my 15" 1080 display on my laptop, but on my 4K 27" display I can see if I stand perfectly still.

That’s the great irony about that animation. You don’t even see it unless it makes you sick or you’re trying to precisely click a target in the distance or via nameplate. It’s completely pointless.

You should do that by making the attack actually powerful. Let’s talk about that.

This is obviously feedback for the developers, and I’ve submitted it in-game as well, but let’s talk about it because there’s no way to reach the depths of this without a slightly longer post.

In the Shadowlands alpha this is quite noticeable, but it’s also noticeable by me right now thanks to an addon I’ve made called SquishMe. What it does is it intercepts the following functions and multiplies the numbers coming through by a common factor:

UnitHealth
UnitHealthMax
UnitPower
UnitPowerMax
UnitPowerType
GetManaRegen
UnitMana
UnitManaMax
GetBattlefieldScore
UnitDamage
UnitRangedDamage
UnitHPPerStamina
GetAttackPowerForStat
GetSpellPowerCost
DeathRecap_GetEvents
UnitAttackPower
UnitRangedAttackPower
GetSpellBonusDamage
GetSpellBonusHealing
CombatLogGetCurrentEventInfo

And I’m still working on more. It also hooks into tooltips and a few other things.

The upshot of this is that I can fake the values of all damage, healing, health, and mana by multiplying it with a factor. I decided on 10^-2.

That puts my mage here in the range of a vanilla tank. Right now in-game I have 5222 health.

So - powerful attacks.

  • Fireball deals 134 damage and spreads an ignite that ticks for 8.
  • Scorch hits for 32.
  • Pyroblast hits for 235.
  • A Lethal Strikes proc happened just then for 334. (Notice how this is the hardest hit so far, and it’s not a class ability and it’s a random instant proc!)
  • Meteor hits for 453.
  • Fireblast crits for 255.

These hits are TINY. And they’re much more relatable now that you can put them into context and compare them with Classic.

How about instead of shaking people’s cameras to make them believe that they’re hitting hard for whatever reason, that you actually make them powerful? They don’t feel powerful because they’re not. Shaking my camera doesn’t help.

But it goes further - my DPS is between 850 to 1600 depending on cooldowns.

So where is all the damage coming from?

The damage is coming from incredible amounts of number spam. 2-3 hits on my target near enough every single second, sometimes spiking up 4-5 or even more. I mean just count it up. Look at that DPS and look at those hits.

It’s extremely messy, extremely hard to read, very difficult to manage and control moment-to-moment. Stuff like this is why we’ve got GCD cap issues.

I’ve said my piece. Stop shaking people’s cameras and give abilities some actual weight.

EDIT #32: (I should proof-read better)
Just tried my feral. Shred is hitting for 68. x’D
