Currently people can pay their sub with gold, buy services with gold and buy store cosmetics with gold, all because of the token.

One of my friends hasn’t bought a sub since the system was introduced in WoD.

I can’t imagine anything more boring that grinding gold myself. I did it that one time for the Long Boi but on the whole I’m more than happy to just pay a sub

Personally i have a 6 month subscription then i save up gold to buy bonds so i can buy games, goods in other games ( ok just call of duty & wow, but still ), nice christmas gifts for my friends

Token good

Oi! Don’t knock one of my Hobbies or i will have to call the fun police

let’s say that you earn gold worth of +1000$ every week & that’s pretty easy in many situation, if you’re top guild that sells mythic raid gear/mounts or you’re selling high +M everyday or if you’re botting with multi accounts & More…etc

and for sure you won’t need all that gold!
then you could make account on certain gaming sites that allow u to sell/buy gold & then you’ll easily make account & then put all your gold for sale with minimum of 100$, once u get any order? U’ll just create a new account find a way to transfer that amount of gold to it, ā€œyou could put trash items for millions on the new account then buy them from your account to feel safeā€ then send that gold from the new account to buyer.
if the deal was caught ? Buyer will get 3days ban & your new account will be perma ban! u won’t lose anything since your main account is safe & all your gold on it is safe too, but most likly blizzard never bother to track gold & this is why this game is still filled with bots even when tokens exist because gold sellers are selling cheaper than tokens, same for those who collect massive amount of gold via boosting service.

to blizzard? they never perma ban gold buyers, cus they know those are the people who buy everything in shop & they don’t care about gold sellers since they keep creating new account & subbing for 1month! when it’s 1day use, I’m pretty sure blizzard removed the 1month from shop so now those people pay for 2x months when it’s still 1day use.

but the worst part is? some doesn’t sell boosting for gold, they sell it directly for $$,

-why do people buy gold? because if you have the money? then why not? xD
-why do people waste time in game to sell gold? because if you could earn +3k $ per month from it? then why not xD?

anyway there are insane amount of people who only play to enjoy & want to save time & also there are insane amount of wow players that only play to earn $$$$ & there is no stopping for this.

They can’t even stop bots and they see them every day.

I know from this… and to be honest it was only a matter of time before people paid without having to buy tokens… it’s cheaper

You totally forgot to read the rest of my post, explaining why manual review doesn’t work, or scale. Add 3-strike policy, and its even worse.

Most boosting communities pay the boosters on their chosen realm, no matter where gold is collected from. Not enough gold collected on a particular realm? No biggie, buy a bunch of tokens from gold, and transfer a guild bank with 10M, pay the boosters from that. Of course, that only works if there’s enough boosters there to warrant the cost of transfer.

Indeed, gold is so easy to come by it’s not worth buying a token.

That’s part of it, yes. You forgot the part that controls the price of the token, which is what shows how many (or how few) buy them. An important part, as low token sales undermine your argument.

I do that! I pay the gametime of two accounts with gold, I bought my transfers and faction changes with gold. Have been doing that since BfA, and will do so until the day I stop playing. It’s convenient.

I do have the IRL funds to do all that too, but why would I spend money when I can spend gold too?

It’s not that bad, really. My three main sources are:

  1. Mission table. Can be done on the phone, or even logging in to use addons to make it even simpler. Takes about 30 minutes a day total, and can be staggered out during the entire day. I usually do my missions before my morning coffee, then have a look during lunch, and maybe a third look before keys at night. Nets enough gold to pay for gametime, easily.
  2. Materials early in a patch. Most of my gold, I made by selling mats early. While everyone was farming gear and rep and whatnot early in 9.0, I farmed materials, and made millions easily. In 9.1, I had a large number of alts doing Korthia dailies that rewarded Korthite, and made enough gold to last me 'till 9.2 even if I did nothing else. Took like an hour a day (and I skipped mission tables meanwhile, so my overall playtime was roughly the same).
  3. Boosting keys. Pretty money early in the season, and also helps me fill my vault. I also meet some great people, and is a lot of fun, too.

Grinding raw gold like people did in BfA, running old raids and stuff - now that is boring beyond imagination, indeed. But there are better ways to obtain gold, which are much, much, much less boring.

You can buy gold on RMT sites x2-x3 times cheaper than WoW token. This sites works for year and even have reputation. Blizzard did nothing aginst this. On RMT sites gold sellers are gold boosters, gold farmers and botters.

They buy TCG codes for spectral tigers/roosters/tabards and sell them off on the black market.

…or - which is much more common - they pay for their gametime, consumables and whatnot with that gold. Or buy long bois for themselves andfriends.

I don’t know what kind of friends would buy you a 10 million gold vanity mount just like that.

A good friend. I’ve bought a long boi in BfA for a friend (for 5m). I bought another (for 10m) for one in SL. They wished they had it, I had the gold to buy it.

I think streamers just get given these mounts for free from other players. No doubt off stream its for a boost of some sort.

I’d exempt some streamers from this, but others literally have folder tabs in their friend list named ā€œcoachingā€ and I think it’s worthy of investigation.

Won’t be pointing fingers, but especially in the pvp part of the game boosting is rampant and you can check within a minute who are the prime offenders.

I think there was some topic or something about boosting where payment is stream( usualy twitch) sub and afaik is banable

The issue is there is no way to trace it… like if they do a deal in discord just between them.

Boosting is getting ridiculous that’s for sure. I saw KSM advertised the other day for 5.4 million gold. I mean seriously, people can’t be paying that! That’s insane…

Imagine if they go direct to the seller and they make it so cash or twitch subs are involved… would be a lot cheaper than buying bobby’s tokens.

5.4m is quite expensive, you can get the same for 4.3m. And yes, people pay that much. Gold is easy to come by even without the token.

Heck, people buy 10/10 mythic sanctum for 20m.
