Shadowlands Holy Paladin - My thoughts and suggestions

Holy Paladins seem very bland and boring on the alpha currently. In my opinion the main reason for this is very basic and unimaginative Holy Power generators and spenders.
I feel quite passionately that changes are needed if the reintroduction of Holy Power is to be successful.

Accordingly, I suggest the following changes to the spec, which in my opinion would make the spec more interesting and present the player with more important choices to make during an encounter.

  1. Crusader strike should no longer give Holy Power.

  2. Make Light of Dawn give 1 Holy Power (instead of being a spender).

  3. Infusion of Light should also make the next Flash of Light or Holy Light give 1 Holy Power whether it is cast on the Beacon of Light target or not.

  4. Make Holy Prism baseline and have it be a Holy Power spender and increase it’s radius.

  5. Remove Shield of the Righteous because Holy Prism would fulfill the same purpose of a damaging Holy Power spender.

  6. Move Glimmer of Light to Holy Prisms talent position.

  7. Make Beacon of Light a talent in place of Glimmer of Light and either nerf Beacon of Faith or buff Beacon of Light to keep the talent row somewhat balanced.

  8. To make the choice between Word of Glory and Holy Prism more interesting, make Word of Glory transfer to Beacon of Light at an increased %. (for example, WoG could transfer at double the %, IE. 80% to Beacon of Light or 56% with Beacon of Faith chosen)

  9. Make Crusaders Might affect Light of Dawn again.

  10. Make Bestow Faith give 1 Holy Power when it heals.

  11. Change Light’s Hammer to give 1 Holy Power when cast and 1 more every 2 sec for the duration and reduce its duration to 10 sec to better balance the talent row.
This change would also create some very interesting talent combinations, like combining Holy Avenger + Light’s Hammer for some powerful burst healing.

To maintain a sensible order in the Talent Tree when leveling up I suggest swapping some of the rows around so that it would look more like this: imgur. com/0wESPqe.png (cant post links)

The suggestions made above would in my opinion strongly serve to make the spec feel much more complete and more well-rounded. It would also maintain Holy Paladins legacy of strong spot healing and passive single target healing via Beacon of Light.

Post this on Paladin Alpha Feedback thread. I doubt they browse here.

I’m just happy to see someone who has played the class at the top end giving feed back. Most of the time people on the forums haven’t done normal let alone mythic

I do agree the spenders seem very pointless on the alpha right now the decision is very meh. If they are going to do hp they need to double down on it

My own personal worry would be haveing too much power locked into the spenders as we already have a lot of power locked behind our cooldowns. But I believe this can be balanced

So you played the Alpha?

Although I haven’t played the Alpha I’m very excited with the new changes. Holy power coming back is great news for me as it brings more complexity. I like how the spenders can be either for healing or offensive purposes and I like how you have to play aggressive to heal effectively.

Imo most of your suggestions focus more on a range/more defensive paladin healer which would be much different from what they have now. Some feel exciting, like the changes to Light’s Hammer or Holy Prism. But I really think Shield of the Righteous can work, as well as the Light of dawn spending Holy Power.

However, I didn’t try it and you seem a much more experienced paladin than me. I have been very sceptical with Blizz’s class design in the past few expansions but I am very excited with the case of the Holy Paladin in Shadowlands
