Or sleepy haha

Last night I lost my 2nd character because I wanted to tag Hogger before the other players and he with other gnolls attacked me.
Clear the trash first and let higher level or tankier class tag elites. I was level 11 mage.

My tips is mostly for hunter class.

1: try and keep melee weapon skill up to date. While not for raw damage, its handy for wing clip if pet dies and make escape a bit easier as you can strafe jump ang wing as you escape caves.

2: in my experience you should focus all your efforts on boosting pet armor on your primary pet and have turtle pet in stable with primary focus being stamina for elites and such.

3: if you follow tip 2, your pet can tank 3-4 for a while. This can be helpful when doing a bad pull you know you cant win. Make sure to get pet to attack all mobs too get aggro and run away while pet tanks. Run far enough pet will despawn and your aggro fully reset.

4: as pet you should use boar because if charge, it is invaluable to keep you safe. If you’re about to lose to an elite you can use charge to charge away to a mob further away and make it easy for to get away.

5: while in a cave its generally better to use swiftnes potion to get out then to use healing pot. Obviously cant do that if you got like 5% hp left.

my tip:
dont play it and do not follow the mainstream 2 week hype - its wasted time.

Don’t play when not drunk either. You need the perfect balance

Tip from US forum:
When not playing melee class - like Hunter that use pet and shoot from distance - don’t forget to go and be hit now and then.
Else your Defence will remain low, and you a wet noodle if pet should die and someone get at you.
Go somewhere low - green mobs, practise new weapon and defence at same time.

dont enter maps with same level , i mean when you are level 10 human dont go westfall just go dun morogh and do green quests then come back at level 13-14

don’t think about going to the cave

you can pull enemy to guards they kill it for you

enemy with faction like trolls murlocs or… are most dangerous packs , it respawn 3-4 guy at same time and bite your as

1: Don’t get attached to any char - if you die and you will, delete and make another char.
2: Pick up skinning at L5 and skin everything your fellow players leave and sell on the AH. Free money for skills, bags etc

Don’t be a hero

I grouped up with a guy to do the cat’s eye quest farming venture co. Someone else joined us and we went into the cave (why oh why?`?). The other two felt confident and plowed ahea with a constant 3 mobs in fight.

On my squishy rogue i got more and more apprehensive. A close call happened when one mob ran away and pulled some more. We killed them all in what i thought was a sketchy as hell fight. They were like “lol this was fun”, i was close to “dear god i need to get out of here”. With one CD down I suggested we slowly fight our way back and get out. They said i shouldnt be so sweaty and all is fine. The warrior resumed his charge-into-the-next-cave pack routing. I left group after the next fight. I made it out in stealth carefully, then i saw both their names pop up in the Deathlog seconds later.

Very few times in my WoW career was i more relieved about a decision i had made.

Usually some feeling of loyalty would have caused me to stick it out with even complete strangers (“fellow gamers and all”) but in HC, being a hero can come at a very high cost

It doesn’t matter, if the AH price is poor, just vendor them.

I’ve got to disagree with this. Although I will continue playing hardcore for a long time to come. My first toon (I have had two others I died with) is still alive and I am very much attached to. She is 100% going to classic era when the sad day comes and I’ll likely continue her journey there (although I hope she dies in naxx like then boss she is)

If you get attached that’s fine, classic era can continue the journey

That’s why you spec into demo tree to boost your voidwalker and never cast shadowbolt and immolate. Corruption, agony and wand, those are your best friends.

Murlocs are evil. If they look like pulling more, run away preemptively.
Caves with hyperspawn are extremely evil. Make sure to have an exit strategy and something in case another mob gets aggroed.
Other players are the biggest evil. Especially in caves. They can Aggro by accident or by sheer stupidity 4-5 mobs and use some threat drop or just run away. Those mobs will all Aggro onto you.
Don’t be too eager to help others. If they are low and or accidentally pull another mob it’s alright. If they pull multiple mobs because of greed or try to solo some difficult or elite quest it’s their fault. Are you willing to risk your life for someone’s bad decisions?
Stitches is very evil. Always confirm where he is. You aren’t safe even in the city.
People with pets are evil. For your own safety, never do dungeons with random people with pet classes. Even if they aren’t bad, they still can pull mobs and wipe your group.

Be careful when looking for bear pelts in Dun Morough. I was lured into a false sense of security south-east of Kharanos when I saw a lone bear in the distance.

I ran out to attack him, and suddenly 2 snow leopards also appeared from various directions. I’ve no idea if they were stealthed or had just spawned, but along with the bear, they quickly dispatched me.

Be careful around tents. Especially murloc tents. Was fighting a pack of murlocs, and when done, I realised I was stuck under the tent. Tried to get out for a couple of seconds but it didn’t work. The pack of murlocs hyperspawned and I barely had enough power left to kill them again. Then I just managed to get a hearthstone cast before another spawn.

Not going near tents again, that’s for sure. Top 3 closest calls for me this far.

Might be a little bit redundant but ill go ahead. First set of tips revolves around the idea of avoiding avoidable deaths.

  1. Don’t play when you are tired or sleepy. Or drunk :upside_down_face: You will make poor decisions. I have lost a few characters on unofficial hardcore, every single time it was really time to go to bed. Even if you feel you only have easy stuff to do, if you feel the tiredness will not be a big deal, you are wrong. Just shut the game, and get some rest, or you will do something stupid.

  2. Use and abuse the log out. Don’t underestimate the small afk, the small alt tabings… those will get you killed faster than you think. I know, you read my words and you are saying to yourself : i am never falling in that trap, you got to be moron to die to an afk. But someday you will make the mistake, you will do an alt tab or an afk that was supposed to be really really short, but it will end up lasting a little bit longer. Just enough to get you killed. So just get used to logging out every time you have something to do.

  3. Same thing if you start having signs of bad connection. Just log out and come back when your internet seem sturdy.

  4. Don’t be greedy or impatient. I think greed or impatience is the most common cause of death in classic hardcore. Sometimes you have a quest that you really want to complete, maybe you really need the reward, but the mobs respawned again so you can’t safely reach the item you need to collect, and you are starting to get annoyed, because you really want to finish your quest and get going, and you are starting to feel impatient. This impatience, will get you killed. Just get used to being patient, to taking things slow.

Maybe those rules seem obvious, but i think they can easily be underestimated, so they are worth mentioning. My last bit of advice, very important :

  1. Be fast in your decision making. This requires knowledge of the game, knowledge of your class, awareness of your surroundings, awareness of your situation and your outs (health and mana remaining, cooldowns, consumables, …). Very often you see people dying because they can’t chose between fighting and running, so they don’t commit to any of the options, so in the end they can’t either kill or run away. When things go south, you have to think fast, react fast, chose fast. So try to always be aware of your situation, always anticipate what could go wrong, and always plan ahead your possible solutions.
