I’m on the fence tbh about swtor, it was mostly a cash shop only option(well, I could buy a lot of it on the GTN, but still)

Yeah, it’s an oppressive feeling ambiance about money.
This is also why I prefer GW2 dyeing.
The lore of the ragdoll.
An alternative could be to have a armorset guide. or that a first piece of armour starts a quest or mapdestinations to where to find the rest of the set.
i mean for the highquantity no lore armors that is not shown in the appearencetab
as mentioned in one of the first comments above, you could think of introducing it for the items made by the professions, as now you can indicate the secondary statistics: you could use the profession of alchemists or scribe to generate the colors and the tailor/leatherworker/blacksmithing in this way they will be able to select the colors they want, even if only for cosmetic items.
maybe this could also be useful to give new air to the professions
