I started with a pala in each covenant, it happend that I had to change my main’s covenant from one to another, so I have collected everything from Venthyr and everything from the vendors for Kyrian. I still have to do their special event, which I don’t enjoy so have been putting it off. There are some cosmetics tied to that too, mounts and looks I believe.
My NF and Necro have their covenants fully upgraded/unlocked so I don’t really want to have to grind either of those on my main. The problem is finding the time to go on and do callings and whatever extras on those chars atm. They have loads of things they still need from the vendors and I’ve barely touched either Garden or Abom factory.
I’m waiting for some down time to make some inroads into that. I have friends who are bigger collectors than me and had to do one in each covenant for each armor type. Sixteen characters. That’s nuts. I don’t know how they find the time. Or how they stay on target. I take my hat off to them.
One could not do all the covenants at the start. Which is the same reason I have one pala in each covenant. The awkward but possible switching system we have now is an improvement but it’s still not great. It’s a fix on a system they never designed to be flexible.
It’s also very inconvenient to swap unless you don’t want to do anything in your hub. The mission table cancels as soon as you swap.
Soooo… let’s get this straight, there are 16 sets total (and multiple versions of each, of course…), and also some other “cosmetic” items like weapons, backs, mounts, etc.
In order to unlock ALL armor (cloth, leather, mail, plate), I’d need to do all 4 covenant campsigns on 4 different characters (one for each armor type) AND also get renown 80 with the same characters?
That indeed sounds excessive.
So it seems like the progress with my demon hunter can help me with collecting stuff that my druid can use, but my Kyrian mage and Venthyr death knight can’t. Therefore, to unlock just the leathers, I’d need to do the whole Kyrian and Venthyr thing (campaign AND renown) with either my druid or my DH too.
No thanks.
But thanks for all the clarifying answers guys and gals.
The way they’ve introduced the covenant swapping now you could do it on:-
One plate, one mail, one leather, one cloth.
But each one would have to work through each covenant. It’s still a massive undertaking either way though.
I’m only doing plate and I’m just under half way done. There are some transmogs which are universal to all armor types too and those only need unlocking once.
Back before, it was pretty much 16 toons as it was very hard to farm renown. I have a friend who was insane enough to do it (well, for me is insane to put in that much effort but won’t judge) but if that’s what she likes
They didn’t design it to be flexible. Have you forgotten the whole pull the ripcord debacle?
Are you new to wow maybe started late? When the game was first tested concerns were raised about being locked into covenants and the only way you used to be able to swap was over a two reset period involving a quest. They made the system to prevent people swapping. If you don’t raid, M plus or PvP then sure you can flit around taking your time messing about over a two reset period.
The fix they’ve done now allows us to grind to 80 and swap back and forth but we have to do it in Oribos. This system was not based on people hopping in and out of various covenants. As I mentioned things like the mission table are cancelled the moment you switch. You have to go to Oribos to swap. So if you want to queue for any autocontent you either have to do it in completely the wrong covenant. It’s a nuisance having to go to Oribos every time to swap. So if someone is like lets do some keys you have to hoof it to Ori to swap and set up your abilities etc.
It is a band aid fix on a system that was meant to be a ‘meaningful choice’.
About all these cosmetics that are unlocked by Grateful offerings which I have plenty lying around with my druid, but none with my alts.
So if I switch my druid to Kyrian, buy the cosmetics (backs, weapons) AND let’s say I get renown 80 with my mage (not my druid), will my druid be able to use these Kyrian weapon and back appearances?
