Social contract

You are smarter than this…

I am afraid it is not. I would like an explanation of blizzard what this contract actually is and what the value of it holds. We have signed a damn vague thing :frowning: There is also no reference or mention of the tos/eula.

This is an OUTRAGEOUS comment!!!

Players Fake Rage about things on the forums ALL the time!

Authenticators being one of them!

So then email Blizzard support? What’s the problem. They’re not going to respond to you here.

“To my way of thinking…”

Stopped reading right there, if you dont agree with the very basic and fair social contract you should play something else, seriously.

Tbh this is where WoW falls apart. Firing all the people who dealt with player-player issues wasn’t a very good cost cutting measure, turns out. If you fail to moderate your game, the nice people start to leave, and your revenue falls. Eventually you only have toxic people left.

This is a exemplified by the pugging pool. Many people got sick of the abuse and now only run in private groups, with the result that the density of toxic players in the pug pool increased. Which drove more people into communities and increased the toxic player density again. This loop only ends when game moderators step in and punish toxic players, or only toxic players remain in the pug pool.

I hope what we are seeing now is a will to do the former. I’d like to be able to pug dungeons, but I know from times past that it can get very sour, very fast. I do plan to dabble a little now that x-faction has arrived, but I am nervous about what I will find…

(And it’s not good when players of an MMO are nervous about engaging in group content!)

Theres a simple reason why its so vague, because it means nothing. It was a way for bliz to be seen doing something, without actually having to do anything.

Then using words like contract to mske it seem more legit than it is.
Well, if it was actually a contract, then in case of something in it being vague, it legally would fall to our advantage.

I’m confident that if I were to call my sister right now (who is a lawyer/solicitor btw) and ask her should things that are not legally binding be in a contract, I’m confident that her answer will be no, they shouldn’t.

We don’t need to be patronized,… if Blizzard wants to encourage nice behavior, if they have kids, they should start there.

Toxicity is what drives the gaming industry, men make up the vast majority because of that reason.

I don’t play video games to say, “good game bro”, or “have a nice day bro”, I play video games to :poop: on people.

Once again I need to drop in here to point out that social contract != legal contract.

Educate yourselves, people.

What a terrible opinion. I wish you luck on your quest to find a game that will tolerate your toxicity, because WoW ain’t it anymore.

Then call her, because they have always been part of the ToS

The Contract

I want you to deliver 1000 boxes of Kellog’s Corn Flakes to Tesco by 10 am tomorrow, failure to do so on time will result in a pay reduction for your service, it is encouraged that you smile when making the delivery.

Your argument is that it would be a breach of contract if you didn’t smile?

Don’t let them hold you emotionally hostage, not because something aligns with your sensibilities and morals means that it is the correct thing.

If it’s not legally binding, encouraging you to smile shouldn’t be in the contract.

If you made the delivery on time, you should be paid in full, make sense?

Exactly. This.

Bruh, I swear sometimes people on these forums say the darndest things. Like, who is even talking about court? You realize “contract” means an agreement, right?

At this stage I have to wonder if some people in this community know what basic words mean. How can you even communicate with people who don’t even know what is even being talked about.

We’re talking about the social contract of a community and you’re talking about court.

Google social contract, please.

The social contract is literally just another two annoying clicks to go through, I doubt anyone actually read it who wasn’t already aware of this drama.

Yeah, I think you need to sit this one out champ.

A Contract is an Agreement.

If I scribble on a piece of paper that if I do 1000 push-ups, you owe me 1000 dollars, and you signed it.

That agreement is legally binding, if you don’t pay, I can take you to court, and if I can prove I did do the 1000 push-ups, I will win.

The term “social contract” refers to the rules a community agrees on in order to function. Social contract theories are thousands of years old, but they gained prominence in the 16-17th century through thinkers like John Locke and Rousseau. For example, the social contract dictates that you shouldn’t stink on the bus - there are people who break this rule, but we see them as offensive. They can’t be jailed for not taking a shower, but they still break rules. The social contract dictates that you take the shopping cart back - there are people who don’t do it, but they don’t go to jail over it.

You clearly have no idea what basic phrases mean. You can’t even think in tweets, your thoughts can only span individual words. You saw ‘contract’ and immediately forgot the word preceding it. So sit this one out, champ.

Aight, let me school you.

Trick question…

…can a rule be a rule if it can’t be enforced?

Your answer is going to be hilarious.
