Spells coming off GCD in SL

“No, but actually ”

Don’t do that to me. It’s annoying. Just say that you agree when you do.

Playing how you like is not the same thing as picking things at random.

These dead talents occur for a combination of 3 reasons:

  1. It’s extremely easy to get away from them
  2. They are not more fun than the other options - or maybe even not fun at all
  3. They are not more powerful than the other options - or maybe downright weak.

In the case of talents there is literally 0 lore and story behind the existence. It just kindda exists just because. With no story or lore coolness to justify it, only the mechanical feel and power means anything.

The thinner and worse the lore, the more stock people put in the mechanics of it.

The abilities themselves are extremely covenant-themed. Saying they’re functionally just like another ability I mean… okay? The same applied to loads of the Azerite necklace abilities, too.

You get the Artifact weapon power. Then afterwards it becomes a core class spell. Was it any less of a class spell beforehand, or is this rule selectively applied here?

I would be. When I started playing WoW you couldn’t respec at all. That’s a staple of the RPG genre - the notion that you make choices that make you the kind of hero you end up becoming.

I can see why respeccing is needed. I can see why it exists. However, just unlocking everything all the time is not very deep gameplay at all. Indeed, the ability to swap between abilities this frequently has honestly had me thinking about whether this system even makes sense to have. Why don’t we just have all of it all the time? What’s the harm in that? We’re limited by GCD’s and/or resources so we can’t use it all all the time anyway.

What’s the point if the story is so weak?

Okay, two things - even judging by beta logs, you’re wildly exaggerating.

But let’s assume you’re right. Explain to me the problem with DK’s ramping damage over time by summoning minions instead of just heading up to the target and beating it over the head like Frost would?

Because as far as I’m concerned, the gameplay of just running up to people and beating them up without too much ramp-up is how Frost works. Why not play Frost?
