It’s only controversial if people decide to make it controversial.

Hmmmmmm.
Gimme Grimtotem tattoos and Grimtotem classes ala Rogues and mages.
Both literally exist in-game as NPCs, many did defect to Baine during the events of the Shattering after Magatha was exiled. C’mon Blizzard.
Night Elf Warlocks when?
Hell, Night Elf Paladins to!
Still make me cringe. Priests got shafted hard enough in Legion without losing a member to Paladins to “further their learning”. Paladins are a straight upgrade to priests I guess now.
I honestly think a few more race/class options are viable without twisting lore at all. The same options are basically just a “Why aren’t these playable yet?” question.
Yea, Night Elven Warlocks and Paladins are two of those options; tbf. Moon-priestessess fit the description for both Priest and Paladin-classess… And the Highborne who rejoined used to have Warlocks in their ranks in Vanilla… So the knowledge is there for the Night Elves to use.
Pretty much in the same way that both the Grimtotem could bring the knowledge of Mages and Rogues to the rest of the Tauren.
Also my man, let go of what ever happened in the Order Halls; come next expansion you’ll never have to redo them again… Ever
hmmmm looks at you
I want this NOW.
Knowing Blizzard? If you want to play a Night Elf Warlock? the Horde is there waiting for you
Roleplays fire mage as a destruction warlock, dabs on Ion
I roleplay a Frost DK as a Frost Mage.
/dab on server
Frost DK Night Elf with Night Warrior skin option = big brain power move.
I mean… am I wrong?
Tauren mages and rogues literally exist and have quite plausibly joined the Horde in the Shattering, they just weren’t added because they were already getting priests and paladins is my guess. Or they were forgotten about. It’s quite funny that the only random quest mob NPC in the game, that I know of, that uses rogue energy is a Grimtotem. Plus, Outlaw = pirate spec, and we’ve had tauren pirates since Vanilla even. So not a hard leap at all. In a Cata dungeon a ‘Captured Mage’ NPC that’s neutral has a chance to spawn as a tauren and uses mage abilities too, and they’re not even Grimtotem nor innately hostile unless attacked.
Night Elf paladins while I hate do exist as of Legion, no reason they can’t be playable if all it takes is slapping on some armour and picking up a hammer. Heck we have TWO if you count the ghost. I hate the concept but they’re potentially playable without changing a thing, and both are friendly.
I know how you feel about yet more races being monks, and we’ve argued the matter to death repeatedly in the past, so I won’t touch on that too much. But… Looks at mechagnome/zandalari troll/Back to the Future Orc monks. Frankly I don’t see how it could get any “worse”. The class is a step away from being a common class like warrior, rogue and (Soon) DK as it is. I’ll leave it at that.
Honestly feel this would be a stretch. They existed but were they in a non-hostile form? I don’t remember. And that’s the main criteria for me. Does the class combination either:
A) Already exist in a non-hostile form?
Or B) Requires only the absolute bare minimum ten seconds of thought to rationalise without significantly twisting the current context and availability of the class? Emphasis on current.
Night Elf Warlocks I’m not aware are seen in a non-hostile form, and I’m pretty sure after the Legion ravaged their homeland repeatedly they’d kick out anyone dabbling in fel. It took a Cataclysm to let mages back in who indirectly helped the Legion way back, never mind directly working with demons.
Draenei warlocks are a common request I see because of draenei warlocks here and there, but they’re all hostile. Two thirds of their people became warlocks in a sense, they’re called Eredar. I’m pretty sure draenei outright can’t use fel without going nuts given what little we’ve seen of draenei warlocks up to now. We have ONE non-hostile Eredar and it’s a random NPC in the Dalaran Sewers who helps you out with shady business but it’s not obvious if he’s a warlock himself.
Contrary to popular belief: Wanting a few more race/class combos =/= Wanting the floodgates opened. There are a number that in the current context are just too absurd or too much of a stretch for me.
Sure Blizzard could just turn around and say “btw night elves can be warlocks now”, but I like to suggest combinations that make sense in the rules and lore of each class (Or how races view a class) that we have at present. And there are a few I think are only non-playable because of arbitrary decision making.

Shadowlands memes are hot commodity right now
People of Earth! Give me your energy!
Unless you attacked them or attacked Immol’thar, the Shen’dralar back in vanilla were non-hostile… So yea, they kind of existed in non-hostile form, also like I said the remaining Shen’dralar Highborne could’ve taken the knowledge with them, perhaps some of them might still be Warlocks pretending to be Mages!
Anyways; don’t worry I would love more classes for the Night Elves, I’m just as fine if they don’t or even if they decide to remove classes
