This thread exists to have a light-hearted discussions about whatever. And I prefer to chat with people who mainly frequent the story forum than the guys from general.

Indeed, an anonymous person got suspended for a day for linking the video of Spongebob going “evillllll!” in the Darkshore thread talking about Sylvanas being evil for the sake of it recently.
It is nice to have a thread where we don’t have to worry about that kind of BS.

The thing is, we don’t have to use this thread – if offtopic discussions are limited to other threads (which is bannable, btw, it’s in the Code of Conduct), then so be it. But if there are other players here who want to have an offtopic discussion about whatever they wan, they’re free to do so.
I had hoped that the topic could be used for more bonding between the players. One of the reasons I stated in my mail to the Community Team and the GM’s was that tensions tend to run a little high here sometimes, and if we know each other a little bit better, maybe the discussions would be more civil.
But I don’t want to elevate this thread to anything more than it actually is: a place to talk about literally anything, without getting banned for derailing the thread. If no one is going to use it, fine, at least we have the opportunity to use it.

Also, yes people have actually been banned for ‘derailing’ a thread (which was a troll thread, btw), I think it was the thread about the Horde having saved Stormwind. People mass-reported some of us and some got banned.
I, luckily, was spared.

I was under the impression this was more about “isolating” derailments and offtopics.
But as I said, I never got a hang of these topics.
Even in the US, where they have been present for far longer, I just refrain from going there because I don’t really understand what to do/day.
I mean…I’m impressed. They were really banned for derailing??

I tend to use one of the discord channels for that. In the US we have a few.
But I kinda see the point.
Regarding this point, I think they might have actually been a little bit dishonest. They usually like to generate drama and keep the player base boiling.
Back in the day, they withheld a piece of information regarding Dalaran, that had it been known, it would have cut the forum arguments by half.
Even now, their marketing strategy goes with directly dividing and galvanising the player base against each other. Hence those factional tv spots.
“Any kind of response, even if it’s negative, means we are doing our job”. Those were their words regarding the game story.
Of all the reportable stuff I’ve seen, they went with “Derailment”? Oh my. I’ll keep my opinion about it, but I’ll just leave it at weird.

It’s not a bad idea to create an open Discord for the EU Story Forum, but to my knowledge there are already a few for the European forums (not specifically for the Story forum though).
Which is one of the reasons why I absolutely disagree with the whole Faction war idea, it’s too artificial and it’s only there for the Rule of Cool. When they were asked why they wanted another faction war, they said something about “returning to the core of WoW” which is, let’s face it, a terrible reason.
I’m one of those who believe that the story should develop naturally, one event flows from the other as if Blizzard is not writing the story, but telling it. Which is why I am also fully against Blizzard viewing themselves as gods, being able to change the story outside of the game through Twitter and Q&A’s.
Blizzard disrespects their own lore by twisting it for their own ends. And they even encouraged the division of the community. When we meet each other in real life, and we find out we both play WoW, our first question is, according to Blizzard, supposed to be what Faction we play in…
If only they realised that most of the discussions are related to bad writing anyway.

That’s still ok, if they don’t want you to love it, but to love to hate it. There is some communal feeling in letting off steam about the next stupid decision they made, at least for me. I think an MMO doesn’t really lend itself to a good story… and a mediocre story that doesn’t really raise any kind of reaction… could actually be less enjoyable.
So, I’m really not sure if they chose the wrong approach. The story isn’t a selling point anymore… but it is a very engaging topic.

That’s very true, but it’s a shame most of those discussions detoriate in some kind of game about who has the worst story. When someone says that the Horde is in a bad place right now, there’s always someone who waltzes in and proclaims something about bias this and bias that, and how Horde players shouldn’t complain.
Oh, it certainly is. I can’t wait until the release of 8.1, when we’re all talking about Dazar’alor and Darkshore.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with a thread where people can just be civil and chatty, we have far too many of the other kind, where everyone has a point to prove, and sometimes tempers flare, and goodness, I know I am not exempt from that, but there is nothing intrinsically harmful about the idea of this thread, and indeed possibly something cathartic about it.
We don’t -have- to have our only social interaction on this forum defined by what colour is behind your avatar, and most of the people would generally be perfectly chatty and friendly if we weren’t arguing all the time. There is nothing wrong with an area for that. I don’t want to constantly argue with people about the minutiae of Blood Elves or Night Elves or who is wrong and who is right, it does no harm to have a place we can just leave that behind, to be honest, and perhaps some good?

Yes, I’m totally with you on that. And if this thread could help to make it a “Bad Lore Appreciation SocieTy” (BLAST for short, because there is a T in society!), instead of the “greatest victim of bad writing” competition… that would be great.
