I did not make a blanket statement, if you read my post it specifically has the formulation “generally” in it, which is not a blanket statement term.
Nowhere did I say “all”, and I wouldn’t dare such a statement either because I know perfectly well that there are several good guilds that use warriors as MTs.
Warlocks dominate with SOC on larger AOE but not on Cleave, you typically see a drop off point the longer combat goes on and the less targets you have, physical cleave is arguably stronger when you’re fighting more manageable pack sizes. If you’ve got Hunters and Warriors the damage capability on Cleave is undeniable.
Hyjal will be an interesting take, trash that obviously favours Warlocks and then low armor bosses that allow physical to be extremely strong. I’ve seen some analysis on Black Temple speedrunning and even there where you have large AOE packs physical is very competitive over longer combat durations, as the Warlocks have a major drop off when the target count drops off towards the end of combat.
Shattered Halls is a good example, if you take a Blizzard Mage and a SOC Lock you’re just never gonna come close to a Warlock in there, but if you remove those massive free AOE sessions and have more standard sized pulls (but still in the cleave/aoe catagory) they can be outdone even by a Warrior or a Hunter, already in T4 gearing.
Well we’ve had a misunderstanding then, which is fair enough.
But the whole point is to do those kinds of big pulls. Maybe not on progress (then again, you don’t care much about speed on progress in the first place), but definitely on farm. I don’t wanna say there’s no point in bringing warrior tanks, rly, but they’re hardly a necessity either, and especially on farm I think most raids will prefer the more specialized tankadins and druids - employing tankadins for quick trash clearing (while druids DPS in cat form) and either tankadins or druids for the boss, whatever’s more appropriate.
Still, if you have a warrior since progress, you’re prolly not going to bench them just for farm, but I’ve seen quite a few SWP raids where the warrior tank (by his own volition, even!) switches to DPS and paladin/druid stay as the tanks instead.
I will most likley go arms in SWP myself seeing as the real dps warriors will have gone fury by then becouse its better dps but the debuff is so usefull even in SWP
This will happen for our guild, maybe as early as P3 even.
Druids just scale too good for single target fights (and so does the dps of several raid members), raising the threat ceiling while still staying very tanky.
Prot warrs just scale poorly, but on the other hand, specs like Fury scale very well, allowing for a good transition opportunity for warriors.
Paladins never really go obsolete, and I’d argue quite the opposite actually, with increasing needs for aoe tanking later on.
I mean we will see, but so far we’re seeing a lot of top guilds running a physical setup, it’s absolutely the best setup right now. I do wonder how much adjustment we will see from content to content, very likelyhood that top guilds can switch from physical to spell as they like, with geared alts.
Regarding druids dpsing in cat form, honestly WCL has created a Gladiator Catagory for a reason, a full tank spec Prot Warrior in a Fury Warrior gearset can do a lot of dps, I did Ramparts this week as Prot dps because it was a guild group and 2000 dps on the first boss, it’s not a scratch on Arms/Fury but it’s still pretty decent and can cleave very well.
Realistically if you’re in that scenario and speedrunning you’d just rather swap your un-needed offtanks for a full dps spec anyway, but I don’t see tank spec’d Cat dps as any advantage over Prot Fury, save for your preferences on group buffs/debuffs.
Really? That’s how you’re gonna try to twist this? You say something ridiculous with no context and then you walk it back and then you don’t want to share any part of the misunderstanding?
You really are a hostile fella, aren’t you.
If you read my post you’d see that I was replying to a guy claiming “warrs are the best MTs”, and I didn’t make a blanket statement saying “all good guilds use bear tanks only”.
I even made the effort to point that out, and said that I deliberately didn’t make a blanket statement because I knew it wouldn’t be true in all cases.
