I don’t want trees to move… I just want their branches to stop knocking my dragon out of the sky.
I have no shame! ^^
100%. I think I’ll witness pigs flying before that happens. x)
I don’t think they’ll ever do an update on that level of scale or engine update/switch.
The amount of work needed, it would probably be easier to just make a brand new game from the ground up.
But a man can dream…
exile’s reach look like it’s from a scrapped version of mobile wow i agree, but the rest doesn’t look that bad they just need a new engine atp there’s no fixing this, can’t go back to triangle trees
Yep graphics are archaic. After all it is an old game that they are keep adding on. They can’t just do huge jump with just one expansion because it would look out of place with other expansions. They need to keep some resemblance of consistant look. So updates are only incremental. Updating everything to look more modern would be huge cost that wouldn’t probably be worth it.
Still oudated graphics allow this game to run on quite low spec machines so huge jump would alienate a lot of people.
If you think the game isn’t worth it then don’t pay, you have other options with far better graphics if that matters to you. In my opinion graphics aren’t the most important and you can get immersed in the game no matter the graphics with just a little bit of imagination. Just like in the olden days.
WoW’s living off their comic-style graphics and about the fact you can play DF(!) on a 5 year old notebook, with a 8 year old CPU without a dedicated GPU.
Yes, you can. I did that for the DF launch because i was on a convention during that time but wanted to play the launch.
I know many, many people who would immediately stop playing WoW if they ever port it to Unreal Engine (i honestly don’t even know why ppl hype UE…It looks boring and every game looks blant and the same without a soul).
Be it because of the Graphics or because their PC can’t even start it anymore.
Tell me you never played PS2 without telling me you never played a PS2 Game.
If you think Valdrakken looks even close to a PS2 Game you are lost, sorry.
13 x12 = 130?
The graphic is fine sure some older places in the world could use a lil touch up but generally it looks fine and you can see small graphic changes every expansion. I dont want wow to look like cyberpunk, i like the graphic design maybe the colors are a little to bright but thats about it
ok good luck with your views and all
I’ve seen a lot of ‘wow but unreal’ videos and honestly it always looks crisp, but…
and I’m gonna be that guy
soulless
I don’t want to go away from the comicy style, yes it was more performance friendly but warcraft has always been cartoony and I’d rather play a game with its own flavour in looks then literally any unreal game of the past decade they all look alike
Good for you, I know many people who dislike WoW graphics and there’s probably a significant audience of potential new players that wouldn’t even try WoW because of how it looks.
Personally I really don’t care what engine or means they use and Unreal Engine is a tool not a necessity. If they could do the same with their own (new) engine or any other engine, than great. Games looking bland and especially the same is not a symptom of the engine and thinking it has any correlation is an uninformed misconception.
I have a big fancy PC and I want everyone with a less expensive PC to have to stop playing or spend money they could spend on more important things to get a big fancy PC too because I want WoW to use the Unreal 5 Engine
Meanwhile. Blizzard says “nah we ain’t doing that because we don’t want to lose half our subscriptions overnight just to please a handful of people with money to use as loo roll.”
You’re a game developer, you should be aware of the work suddenly switching to the Unreal engine and having the older expansions compensate would entail for Blizzard. It isn’t going to happen unless they somehow start work on a new Warcraft MMO.
Oh and here’s the thing about “graphics”
Your game can look a million dollars but play like a pile of dog poo, all you have is a million dollar pile of dog poo
Post/ideas like these is why I am happy that there is always Project Management, directly reporting to Corporate.
Not the biggest issue for me, but I am not a fan of the game looking “softer” or less sharper since DF. There also seems to be some sort of view distance rendering problem now Idk
Every time i see one of these posts, i cant help but wonder why people want to ruin this beautiful game. WoW has unique style that i believe has always had a major role in its succes. Taking away this style and replacing it with some generic looking unreal engine crap, will kill the game.
Grahics isn’t just about pushing the limits of the hardware we have available to us. Its about style, asthetics, expression and art, and for all their faults, if there is one thing Blizzard has always nailed, arguably better than any other developer, this is it.
Here’s my 2 cents from being a 3D designer (in the making).
Designing good photorealism is easier than designing stylized graphics. Especially if you work with UE4/UE5, you will be more used to photorealism than stylized, which in turn fuels your opinion of “it looks like a mobile game”.
WoW is, even after all those years, oriented to average medium hardware. WoW is not a new game. That’s no news for all of us. But for a game 20 years old, it looks in newer areas quite excelling in its art style.
Sure, it isn’t a Baldur’s Gate 3 or Cyperpunk 2077. But that’s not the design goal anyways.
The goal is low end hardware-friendly graphics so as many people as possible can play it, with the option to have higher fidelity on higher end systems.
As a last thought, consider this. Maybe you just aren’t a fan of stylized graphics (anymore) due to your work.
Footnote: This video summarizes the graphical evolution of WoW.
For the record, this is Final Fantasy 12 on PS2. This is, how PS2 graphics looked like.
I kinda like the WoW graphics . Would a change be interesting ? Maybe ? Would it be good ? Not sure .
What bothers me the most is that the quality of graphics doesn’t seem that much different between Pandaria and Dragonflight , but in Pandaria my FPS is 120 and in DF I’m hovering between 60 and 40 . This is especially visible now that Remix is up .
Because we don’t, at least I don’t. People seem to think you can’t have both good graphics and a stylized/cartoonish look, which isn’t true. Yeah I would prefer a more realistic WoW but I also wouldn’t mind its traditional look or stylized/cartoonish look as some people call it, as long as that means better graphics. My biggest issue are the textures. Just look at the walls, floor, armor (even in modern zones) those look garbage.
I’m also missing the earlier mentioned dynamic elements like moving grass, branches trees etc. Fly in any (modern) outdoor zone, WoW has none of that, it’s stale and dead but that doesn’t mean you can still have it whilst maintaining your prefered look.
I get that different people have different taste and that some players would like to stick to the old look but for the love god can we stop bringing up the argument that WoW’s stylized/cartoonish look will be lost when you have more modern graphics because it’s simply not true. Even in UE5 (or any engine) you can have that look.
