What are you talking about? Rogues are able to delete people in a single stun lock in SoD too. Runes won’t save you if you’re stun locked, unable to cast spells.
What’s that got to do with what’s being talked about here?
stunlock or being good with rogue is hard skill acquired by years of experience, and knowledge of all class weaknesses, only a few % of the player base can pull it off as they are die-hard people, probably streamers who play all day long, or did back in day.
Metamorph, arcane surges for 1200+, raptor strike, etc. don’t need skill, just pushing a button.
SoD is designed to be fun, relaxing compared to the hard classic. People who enroll rogue (or other classes) do it because they want to try something new, so they are probably not very skilled. All classes should require about the same skill level, so it’s enjoyable to be played by anyone IN CONTEXT OF SoD.
There is no time in SoD to play hundreds or thousands of hours to learn to be good with rogue if the meta changes almost monthly.
For serious gameplay, there is regular classic or retail.
Then remove it, but add other abilities, since rogues:
don’t have armor like druid shapeshift (boomkin and bear) or warriors, optionally:
– priest inner fire,
– mages frost shield reducing even attack speed
– warlock hp regen + armor shield
don’t have spell resists or abilities to shield it like priests or mages,
don’t have healing like paladins(plus bubble), priests(plus bubble), (now mages, plus bubble), druids, shamans (plus totems), warlocks green pills and passive life drain, shadow priest (except exiting form and healing) vampiric embrace which can heal a simple dung run!
don’t have pet like hunter to help out (plus traps and trap shooters and mark just a name a few things from toolkit)
don’t have AoE fear like warriors or single target ones like warlock, let’s consider polymorph as some kind of fear
don’t have spell damage that ignores armor while people have no spell resist.
Rogue without its defensive abilities would become the retarded little brother of a feral cat druid that didn’t inherit the genome for healing, shapeshifting,… making it unusable anywhere.
There were few thread replies in other threads people explaining by other rogues or people (mages, priests,…) how you can ruin a rogue’s stunlock combo and destroy him.
That you are a noob or see other PRO rogues destroying random noobs in World PvP does not mean the class is OP.
The same way I see warriors, ferals,… 1-3 shooting other people in world PvP and some BGs yet they are considered the weakest in PvP right now.
You can’t compare a couch potato with a pro runner. Pro runner will always outrun the couch potato no matter what shoes he is wearing. It’s that dead fkn simple.
They are the only things these classes have going for them and are a fraction of the toolkit Rogues have.
Paladins are penalized with a hefty Bubble CD and Shaman totems can be easily destroyed.
You can damage through the shields of casters, get out of Hunter traps, Mage sheep, Warlock and Warrior fears once they do damage to you but you will not get out of any of Rogue’s stuns.
That’s because it relies completely on its horribly designed utility.
I kind of agree, I been playing this game since 2004. my friends and I have a joke about world pvp, if you get ganked its 90% a rogue.
Rogue has always been annoying to deal with in PvP especially world pvp, and the OP asked a question “If I had to say one class that is utterly annoying in pvp throughout every single expansion? my answer will 100% be rogue every single time”
But no, it will not be deleted, rogue is an essential class within any MMORPG game, not just WoW…just a side fun info, rogue used to be called Thief class - thats where lock picking ability came about, the class Thief, stealthes and steals from targets, the class first appeared in the 70’s, I think it was in 1975 gotta double check and it wasn’t from WoW, its a nice research if you have the time.
I disagree, there are plenty of utilities that other classes can use (alright, shamans are a bit behind others), but people don’t know how and when to use them…
With PvP talents, I jumped on a mage and did him ambush for 156 dmg xD (that does not happen often), jumped on another one did him 900.
Here is how mage can deal with rogue (if rogue has some cooldowns):
I walked behind a frost mage with his frost shield on, and used ambush, that shield slowed me and my attack speed and soaked up most of the damage, then he blinked before I could stun (global cooldown), I shadow stepped, and he froze me, (had all my 5min and 10min cooldowns), when frost nova broke I got to him as my shadow step CD ended, by that time I had almost no HP left, he used ice block, again he was able to do that due to my GCD after shadowstep, it was enough time to him to reset blink cooldown, he blinked again, slowed me, my sprint cooldown was up and used sprint on him when i got near him, he again froze me, I got to him again he cold snapped and ice blocked, blinked and then well I was dead.
Warrior:
It’s recommended to use dots on him right? So I got close, used garrote, mutilate, he feared me, I used trinket, now I had combos to stun it got parried, so I ripped him, he was slowed from rune + cripling poison, tried to give him few mutilates but as I always parried he overpowered, then he hamstring me, he disarm me as I was running away with sprint, he charged me and by the time I had less than 20% HP and he just deleted me with execute. Since he had damage over time on him, it’s no use to waste blind, I had rend on me so I cannot vanish.
Another fight went very similarly, but I had no rend on me, so I vanished, shouted and I was visible again.
Priest:
Fight 1 disco priest: Ofc, bubble always up so ambush no use, tried to stunlock him, he used fear, i used trinket, he used dispersion i dealt negative damage to him, then tried to stun but it did not last long enough, he healed by the time I had energy for kick, he got so much HP back that again just bubble. So his teammates came and deleted me.
Fight 2 shadow priest:
Almost same gameplay from priest, but had CD on trinket, during fear, he dotted and mind lasted me for 900 dmg. When I got to him he dispersed and dot’s finished me.
Hunter:
Got to him, stunlock him, in small window of opportunity he sunned me with kill command of his pet, used FD so I lost my combo points, he got back, and as soon as I was able (exited pet stun) I blinded his pet and stepped on hunter, hunter shoot frost trap, slowed with melee, then got away again, dazed me,… used few raptor strikes and I was dead.
I think there is no need to continue how to properly use toolkits of other classes to exploit small mistakes/energy ticks and other mechanics of rogues.
it’s not, it finally gave rogues a bit more chance and opportunity to do some PvE damage and compensation against 2400dmg arcane surges and 1k arcane blasts… and other runes…
Even if it was 60 energy, people would complain about rogues. They can’t use their toolkits, because everyone wants to spam 2 abilities tops, so rather nerf someone else than learn the class properly.
There are far more OP abilities from runes than a 40-energy mutilate. You know that everyone knows that, it’s just that everyone hates rogues because of their lack of PVP skill, and that’s something people don’t admit.
Based on experience of Phase 2, I think Blizzard should just remove melee entirely and make only ranged classes which can spec to tank like warlock or druid.
