That counts for pretty much everything though, not just WoW.
This is true.
Personally I wish they would do all patches like this, I hate data mining, the only acceptable time we should know something before release are things like hero talents where we need to give feedback as to what aspect of our personal playstyle we find fun and how to best augment that, but pure content should be a secret.
I don’t expect anything huge, I have no idea why some do. It’s a dot on the roadmap, my expectation is it’s a lil something, a bit of fun before the next season. I do agree with the lack of hype, I can’t get hyped about something where I have no idea what it is. I don’t mind tho.
Please no more events like this.
Dragonflight was already too heavy on similar events.
Cooking cauldron (a bit different but similar idea)
The assault on the keep (great idea but way too linear)
Researchers under fire was similar
Timelost thing
The bloom thing…
Its too much copy paste for content and annoying aswell.
I truly hope the next few patches bring new events instead of all this: fill the bar nonsense
I’ve been sick of these since before BfA… I remember being in the BfA Beta and I was testing the assault on undercity… Man was I disappointed that to proceed you had to, you can guess it, fill a bar. It feels so bad, just have a counter of enemies and siege engines or whatever, but a bar? Blegh.
whatever it is, they said a classic player can come join the secret patch without having an existing character on retail. which some think could mean hardcore retail. could be anything but the devs are risking to try out this new system and did say things might go bad but they hope we will like it.
I feel lost, what does this “secret patch” conversation come from?
i first heard about it a month ago or something by Bellular. he was reading some WoW article by bliz. after that they then started to guess what it could be but we really don´t know what it is, and no PTR either.
Eheh, my post was more of a joke but I do share your opinion.
That does not just apply to a secret patch, any patch can please or displease any one. This just prevents a lot of complaints and hype beforehand, bar the “I don’t know what it is” novelty.
I think it’s kind of nice, it’s not been datamined into oblivion, we don’t know what is coming. They’ve clearly been having fun with this. It’s not been played to death on the PTR in advance. We just have to wait and see.
It’s not like they are doing this for a new expansion, it’s not a whole thing being released without alpha/beta testing and lots of feedback. It’s just a small patch of content.
I’m curious to see if I enjoy it more going in blind. Or whether I’ll be cursing later
well yes and no.
For one is that “I” think of these patches that are not even .0.5 patches that they will be irrelevant for people that are not into these casual stuff like events or an additional quest line.
Now when you make it a secret you basically have to assume that the patch will be different from before and thus sparks expectations. If then it is revealed that it is basically the same as before: a stupid questline nobody cares about, 2 new hairstyle and a mega boring one shot event, then well it will be disappoiting.
might as well not make it secret then, because it is about as boring as if it wasn’t
Maybe judge it when it comes out instead lol.
there is about a 99.99% chance that i dont care about the patch
Then let it be no surprise or a pleasant surprise
It’s a fun concept, but the timing is a bit bad, we’re at the end of one raid season, next season will be warmed-over old raids (And ditto tier sets), so no big hype for that, i’m not sure if this is the best time to play coy with the bit of news they have…
A bit like the features list for TWW, the patch will probably be lacking.
It’s no secret I don’t like the recycling season 4 that they introduced in SL but I presume as it’s back they got enough engagement from it last time. I got my mount, KSM, bis from vendor etc and then took a break. I don’t need KSH this time as it’s a repeat of S1 so I have the teleports. Doing a 20 in S1 was a lot harder than a 20 in S3 so I don’t know how they’ll balance them this time.
However a bit of fun fluff in between, that I presume this patch will be, I’ll enjoy. It’s a mini patch. I’m expecting something lighthearted and fun themed.
I feel like people need to recognise that there is room between knowing everything about a patch, and knowing nothing about a patch.
I think some general highlights like they have on the road map would have made this patch much more palatable.
We can have a patch where not every detail is datamined, while still having a general idea of what to expect.
But that would have defeated their purpose. It wouldn’t be a secret then. I agree some hints would be fun, something to get people speculating, but then again that also opens the door to disappointment.
The timing is not the best tho, I do agree there. We’re at the slow point of an expansion as it is, it’d be good if there was something to get the juices flowing and all that
