If I am correct, it is implied that anyone can hear it. However I am not RPing it on any character. Don’t mind if others do tho.
A random Dark Iron Warlock came stumbling into our encampment in Ashenvale some time ago, on the hush searching for clues which led to a nice organic introduction to supposed hearsay rumours.
Now that we’ve returned to civilization, we’ve yet to come across anyone mentioning it aside from our own paranoid whispers about whether we got dubbed on the whole ‘song bid’. - We may have been a little early, by the sound of it but we also knew we would be stuck in the wilderness right till pre-patch drop but I reckon now’s the time to drum it up if there ever was a time to Roleplay it!
I believe the Radiant Song is a nice hook for people to meet and engage in RP. The Assembly of Dusk had all sorts of people with an interest in the void gather and the Radiant Song (before we had a name for it) was the topic of discussion at several occasions.
I also think it’s a nice reminder to consider your character’s view on the matter, whether they experience the song or only hear of it. How do they incorporate it with their beliefs and what actions (if any) will they undertake because of it?
My void elf doesn’t experience any visions because of certain circumstances not to be named here, whereas my troll shaman heard the call much like Thrall did and caused her great concern.
Yeah, it seems to be kept on the low-down for the most part, I’m guessing it pops up more frequently in guild narratives. It’s a shame Blizzard once again cocked up world building and did not do anything to incorporate this in the prepatch via at the very least some random NPCs mentioning that they see/hear weird stuff. (or I just haven’t seen anything like that yet)
Still, it’s a pretty good way to connect your character with whatever might be going on in TWW and take your roleplay there.
I would say that it is about your connection to the world. Either you are delving often underground, or you are bound to the soil as a Druid, connected to the arcane as a Mage, or the elemental planes as a Shaman.
I do not believe it is something everyone hears.
The only voice Lochton hears more often, is Jani. That bloody Loa has been empowered by the Darkspear, and is not around more places than Zuldazar. There is not enough room for two scavangers!
For a short time, he thought it must’ve been the handiwork of the new world tree, affecting the dreams and psyche of most. Then, a few hours later, he realised that neither does he sleep, nor would the druidic really have a connection to him, given the double whammy of being undead and a warlock that heavily dabbles in Fel.
He is not entirely sure what to make of it now. On one hand, the strange visions seem to be harmless, mostly about memories and what not; but on another hand, there’s also the cryptic messages, and how sudden and intruding they are.
Lintian doesn’t experience it, and even if she did, her reaction would be an annoyed “Why now, Elune?” and she would go on with her business.
I do like the notion of characters incorrectly attributing mysterious, magical messages as being from the wrong source. My night elf would often attribute phenomena as being from Elune too (went to Ardenweald once, before the connection with the Winter Queen was made, and immediately went “DAMN we’re in the goddess’ realm”).
It is also described in one of the short stories (I believe in the Anduin one), but it basically only puts the Silithus cinematic into words. So, flamey ball Hydaelyn calling out your name. With some sort of urgency, but not with much detail or expressed emotions.
As my old girl is not very magically talented, I was thinking about simply looking around on increasing occasions, confused who was calling at her.
Worldsouls basically have the potential to become titans. If not done specifically with that intent, it just is a powerful world/source.
But I rolled for which characters of mine experience the Radiant Song. There were 2 who heard it in 10.2.7 and I might add one or two more to the list now with the pre-patch.
I for one am happy Blizzard didn’t elaborate on it because we now have free rein for the imagination to take root. Just look at this thread and you’ll find a dozen different interpretations and executions. I wanna say Operation RP Hook: Successful.
_be jeyce
_play wow for 20 years, both roleplaying and outdoor and raiding content (obscurity)
_go on forums to express excitement over the first new lore feature and interesting rp hook in years
_faced with “i dont feel comfortable doing it because it veers into super protag meme”
_disagree, back statement up with logical argumentation, finish with punchy closing line
_bitter
I wonder how quickly people hearing the song will U-Turn if we find out it’s a bad thing
Real chads will play out the corruption.
Sounds like a great hook to me! We’re committing!!!
“I told them Hireek was alive me loa whisperin’ to me again teehehehehe. Ol’ Jeb not so crazy now!”
No no no, your 17 year old Old Town urchin criminal shadowmancer secret assassin former SI:7 detective turned half elf (dracthyr visage) bartender character is supposed to know every single thing about the lore verbatim from wowpedia at the drop of a hat. They’ve been to the Shadowlands, you know…
dude doing lfr and a few pugs isn’t raiding, this is the shilling i’m paying for??
I mean I certainly hope they won’t go down the route of the Harbinger going all “haha I made you hear the song so you would all follow me to these underground caverns so you could aid me in my plans, as I intended all along! mustache twirl” like the last original villain blizzard has created.
my money is on the song being a plot thread that’s going to go nowhere and everyone will just forget that it happened once we’re deep in dealing with crazy light fanatics and whatever. I am at the very least curious to see what happens to Magni. will he stop being a walking meme? he’s very bitter now, so forum logic dictates he should fade into obscurity
Hey at least you logged in this week. Also factual shilling + upvotes cost extra.
Since Clare has no affiliation to the supernatural apart from being a worgen, I will go with the heard rumours about it option. If I had a shaman on mushroom, she would definitely hear these IC. I think it is down to everyone’s judgement how they go about this IC.
The radiant song is just ram ranch under siege.
