The rise and fall of world of warcraft

I never said it was bad. just acknowledged its existence. theres really no need to be so defensive. its ok to say something is there I leave the right or wrong of it to the person replaying. as I said in my Disclaimer

I think it’s bizarre to assume that because someone is opposed to one ā€˜side’ of the political spectrum injecting their ideals into everything that it automatically means that the individual in question must support the perceived opposing ā€˜side’.

In actual reality, politics are a very broad spectrum and many people - myself included - do not fit into the little, predictable boxes conjured up as convenient straw-man in threads such as these.

It’s the same toxic take that gets thrown around every expansion.

The reality is that people still play and the game is alive.

The idea that a game has to cater to some arbitrary norm to be considered thriving is garbo.

I refuse to fall into this age bs. I’m happy just the way I am.

The real problem is the the hollow, uninspired content they keep pushing out. They aren’t dedicating themselves to creating a truly immersive experience anymore.

Yes I said it.

I’m going to hell.

They slap together surface level features & pump out time gated grinds and expect me to stay engaged…

> The MW monk is happy? We can’t have that. Slap on a 4% nerf for no reason at all haha enjoy your next season Zen. Don’t forget we already took Undercity away from you so let’s make sure to keep you miserable.

That’s what it feels like.

I haven’t enjoyed the overall story since the end of Mists of Pandaria, yet I’m still playing World of Warcraft.

However, Blizzard is still good at creating a few zones or characters with interesting stories.I enjoyed the story in Battle for Azeroth, particularly in Drustvar, Vol’dun, Nazmir, and Zuldazar.
I enjoyed Dragonflight, especially the Ohn’ahran Plains and the Azure Span.

The War Within only captured my interest in Hallowfall, mainly because of the Arathor humans and the whole Light vs. Shadow theme.

Nowadays, I play World of Warcraft mainly for the gameplay Mythic+, raiding, and occasionally PvP if I find the rewards appealing.

The game has changed, just as people have, but Blizzard keeps doing the same thing with slight variations. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Funny you mention that because I was just thinking in my mind not long ago about MoP.

You could argue that Mists of Pandaria is probably the greatest expansion they’ve ever put out. Looking back on it it just had the right vibe, the right everything. The storytelling was deep without being convoluted, the zones were immersive, the faction war actually felt meaningful. I can’t remember if the gameplay balance was good…

Even the side stories had weight.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just nostalgia…but it wasn’t too dark like Burning Crusade, It wasn’t too happy either…MoP was just the perfect blend.

That was a great expansion.

I made this topic not to argue over left vs. right; regardless of your views, it really doesn’t matter in this context, as there is no right or wrong. It’s people’s point of view, and everyone is entitled to their own view. There’s no right or wrong about it.

For me, the three areas I pointed out go into areas where I think there can be some improvement, as I want the game to do well and improve, not to stagnate and slowly die. What I meant by the title of the topic was the rise of Warcraft being the RTS games up to Wrath; there we see a clear story and gameplay, and it’s also the height of popularity, but then slowly it falls away. After that, we had resurgents in Mists and Legion, but since then it seems to have fallen away again. Wow will always have a loyal fan base that will just accept what is given; my point is we should want more, and the people behind WoW should want to give us more. I am pointing out areas where I think it should and could improve.

last part is sth ppl dont realise how important it iscritisize giving the analogy ā€œwould be better if x didnt exist and u want more x?ā€ u should want more otherwise u get korthia or recycled content or reskins or zone events to act as filler content.

It’s ironic how you lost credibility with those last words :point_up_2:

People so easily stray from the topic if they feel offended or annoyed by something. It’s amazing. Witnessing it sooo much on the forums.

That said, I fully agree OP.
Dungeons have lost their meaning, raids have become a stressful experience, the game has turned into a race.
There’s no depth, there’s no mystery… nor sense of discovery and adventure.
I fear that the 1% playerbase that cares about mythic raiding and E-Sports is truly ruining the game – or well, I should say that devs are focusing more around them, than people who really want to PLAY the game.

That said, I’m really having a lot of fun with the new patch and find it absolutely stunning, fun and VERY well made. I only wish they invested more in the RP aspect and expanded the area. I wish the city was bigger, that we had more mini games and things to discover. It has so much potential.

MoP was, as you said, the perfect blend of everything.

But I love MoP mainly because of how stupidly fun pressing buttons on a few classes I tried was.

I’m talking about Balance Druid, for example. If you tried MoP Balance Druid, you’d know Celestial Alignment resetting your Starfall and buffing your DoTs to do monstrous damage while applying both during your burst windows… what a thrill!

I loved that gameplay the heavy proc-based style with Shooting Stars proccing instant Starsurges back to back. To this day, I can go and just sit at the dummies, press the buttons, and wonder how the hell Blizzard managed to pull off something that satisfying!

Of course, I’m not trash-talking retail, because there are still a lot of fun classes to play. Ret Paladin on retail is much better than any of its previous iterations. But MoP had this weird, special, overpowered kind of feeling that made you enjoy fighting mobs.

i like how you smoothly derailed it into a class balance rant. especially considering that undermine is peak

So in essence ; You stopped reading there because you’re a snowflake that takes temper tantrums when you see people with different ideals than yours.

Another Doomer post before it is even Sunday? Geez People said the game would die hundreds of times over but it always can come back. Shove it pls. MMO Fans will never leave because it is too easy to play

I have never at any point said wow is doomed, It was my hope that we can talk about some of the games issues and get a conversation going. Sigh.
