Time to speed up levelling again in retail

“Stay on topic and do know your stuff”
You’re being condescending.

And even if you don’t think it’s good advice, he was completely right in what he said.

Retail leveling was slowed down in 7.3.5 with player power and heirlooms being nerfed. And that became even worse with the stat squish in 8.0.

I abandoned my last 2 alts at level 72-75 because leveling right now is just so tedious.

Let’s be honest here, leveling is not part of the game anymore why do you think Blizz have made max level boosts since WoD pre-purchase?

And I really don’t trust Blizz on doing a level squish. Seeing how buggy and broken the last stat squish was, I’d really just rather they buff back low level characters and heirlooms.

Well first 20 levels in classic were always quick its later when it takes all the time, and the same is true in retail 1-40 is pretty quick 40-60 a little slower, then you get 60-80 which takes almost the same time as 20-60 and 60-80 is the real killer area where progress feels like you went backwards and also gives you very limited choices on where to level.

And Blizz is never going to invest the time it needs to make levelling interesting in Retail they would have to completely redo it and to be honest I would prefer them to use the time effort into new content. You can`t redo retail to have the 1-max level being as long as it is in Classic, even assuming you make it more interesting by giving the player a new skill/spell/talent every level, if you do that you will run out of skills, doing a level squish is the potential solve, but I would guess that it means each level just would take twice as long, but mean instead of waiting 10-15 levels for a new reward you would get more often, the mobs I would guess would remain as punching bags and offer no skill or challenge. The only upside is if it allowed you to go 1-max level in any zone and miss out any expansions. Not like current where you are forced into the same limited zones/expansions.

But as I stated 84 hours played time approx. from 1-120 – its too slow, (21-28 days real time if you spend 2-4 hours a day levelling) I would like to level a Dark Iron Dwarf, and A light Forged Dranei and A Nightborne , I even would love to do a goblin ready for new models as they look good, but do I want to spend 4 months to level up 4 characters in the same old content which I have done 20+ times before…no.

Which leaves me with only one option of paying £50 to boost or waiting until I get 3 new boosts on next expansion (3 because I have 3 active accounts and buy the expansion 3 times)

The legion table definitely has player xp as well as follower xp but can’t remember if the WoD table has it too so…

I don’t agree that it is too slow. You can do it in less than 84 hours played as well if you pick your times - Use Timewalking, the new BfA potion (need a character to send time) etc. My last one was in the 60’s (iirc) using Wotlk time walking to get from 81-120 in a few (long) day. You could also be a Monk as well XP boost pre-90

In that case I agree.
I might have misunderstood as it seemed to be a request to make levelling faster.

Maybe the better request would be make it more fun and rewarding?

Definitely. It needs to feel like a journey and not a chore.

Once you’ve done it 5 times, kind of by definition it’s a chore. You’ve done every zone multiple times, it’s no longer any kind of journey.

It needs to feel like a journey for new players and be more exciting and quicker for existing players leveling alts imo

I said a lot about levelling and how it could be improved when they scaled the zones and I won’t repeat it all again

But there are things that could be have been done to make the whole levelling process fun, instead of just up the HP of mobs and lower XP.

They could have made random bonus events in old zones pop up, a bit like BFA invasions work but for levelling characters, they could have made events like islands and warfronts for levelling character to go to, that would have made fresh content for a player to do which was relevant to BFA content. Instead of as it is now at 1-110 you level up and are not even aware there is a faction war going on.

Perhaps they could put some optional world quests into the lower level content that gives some variety in levelling up.
If there were enough to maybe so do some on one character and different ones on another.

A level squish is definitely needed.

And I don’t see why some form of talent tree akin to Classic WoW can’t be implemented as well as the current one we have.

There are lots of things they could do to inject fun into the levelling process.

In my opinion, the ideal scenario would be “repeatable”. That is, each time you do it, it feels like a different experience.

Classic achieved that somewhat, but perhaps not to the best potential. Any overhaul to levelling should aim for it to remain exciting even if repeated.

I don’t get why there isn’t a weekly bonus for leveling experience like there is for battle pet experience, something that barely anyone cares about.

Blizzard should make a game solely for m+ and raids. Imagine playing mmorpg. All the troubles.

Why on earth have you been leveling so many characters?!
Because obviously it is not to use them for anything beside them leveling-up seeing as there is nothing to use so many alts for in end-game.

This is not a leveling issue, but a you issue. You doing things you do not like, doesn’t make said things bad, but just your choice to do them repeatedly.

If they could make the content different each time it would be fine, the issue is doing the same zones and the same quests over and over again.
4 times is still ok, 10 times is getting boring, 20 times+ is brain dead. Also make some content in levelling zones relevant to the current expansion, be that through bonus events that pop up in various zones, world quests, or just something that makes the experience different, if you had 2 or 3 bonus events each day which could happen in any zone and you could spend your time going around these and levelling up that would be much better than current of replaying old content which is not even mentioning the events in the current expansion and sits you in a bubble world of whatever expansion your currently in.

I think they should make an rng “I win” button for 100€ in the store. All the “purist” are gone, and people have lives in this mmorpg.

I play all 13 characters In end game, I have levelled them up over 15 years of playing.

Boring and monotomous? Yeh…
Now the TS has 20+ highly leveled characters, and everything in game gets boring and monotonous when you spend that amount of time doing the things you do not like (anymore). So yeh, most likely (s)he does.

However, how are you going to make each of the 120 levels (or even 60) interesting when doing that grind multiple times?
There is a way to make leveling feel less of a grind, and that is upping the XP gain while lowering the players power and increasing that of mobs, so making leveling be tougher and be more “vanilla” while keeping the current time to level.

However, I am afraid that that is something lots of people will like even less due to their main complaint is basically that they dislike leveling, no matter how “fun” and “rewarding” getting a hardfought level can be. They are burned out on leveling, and nothing can fix that, besides not leveling so many characters,

its slow at certain points(60-80 which uses to be really really slow, like need lot more exp per lvls and quests gave same or less exp then up to 60 before changes)

I actually agree that faster leveling should happen on retail. Thing is, in Classic the leveling is an integral part of the experience, it’s a big chunk of the actual game, it’s supposed to be like that. But in retail, leveling is a nuisance that you have to do before you can actually do whatever it is that you find fun in the actual game, which is m+, raids, rated pvp, warfronts, islands and world quests, all max level content.
