In a perfect world being too overly caring is a flaw that brings one into awkward situations. When in doubt… Just give your character the most obvious thing ever. Thinking about your character and why he could be racist or whatever? Nah. Makes the character as interesting as a cucumber. I am getting so annoyed by people roleplaying this whole racism thing and thinking it’s “normal”. No, it actually is not normal in Warcraft to be racist. Even the trolls, the most racist people ever that even hate their own kind because they come from somewhere else, are not that bad anymore.
Also the next lightfollowing person that wants to purge the void elves or w/e is getting the paddle. You know what this is? You are basically going against the word of the king. Means you get thrown in jail or even executed on the spot by guards. So many people just following their own headcanon is stupid.
See that’s way better than a sweeping blanket statement.
Still see literally 0 issue with Lightforged discriminating against Velves and vice versa, though. They should be filled with little but utter disgust towards one another.
And yet, the only interraction between them (that I know of) is Lightforged and void elf NPCs talking around Stormwind Embassy. For all we know, they could be pretty friendly to each other.
Obviously, this is going into headcanon territory, but I could see Lightforged being accepting of void elves for 2 reasons:
Events on Argus. Both X´era´s death and Velen´s reveal of naaru being able to turn into beings of Void probably shook their beliefs. After all, we are talking about their “god” being destroyed after she tried to forcibly turn someone into Lightforged and then their faction leader revealing that, surprise, she has been holding off pretty vital information to them: Light and Void are more connected, with naaru being able to become Void creatures.
Turalyon and Alleria. On top of him being in relationship with her, they knew her for 1000 years, probably formed bonds with her and yet, she is leader of void elves. Perhaps knowing their leader personally changes how they see void elves.
Lothraxion, as a senior officer in the Army of the Light, never seemed to have much of a problem discussing the void with Alleria, and his knowledge unintentionally set her on the path to find the Locus Walker. His grand concern was that Xe’ra might get angry if she found out.
So while I don’t have any sort of issue with the Lightforged distrusting or even loathing the void elves, to me, there’s a greater precedence for them being somewhat tolerant (if cautious) than outright hostile.
“Hey we’ve got these two new races, one of which is fanatical light worshippers who have waged an unending war against the Legion and the Void and who worked for a kinda evil Naaru, and the other of which is a bunch of crazy elves who are all about dark magic solely for the sake of ‘more knowledge’ and have embraced the void despite multiple warnings and requests not to. They frequently use it to summon or construct horrifying void creatures that are an offence to all that is natural and/or holy. How should they interact with each other?”
“Best friends of course.”
“Now THAT’S satisfying writing!”
A chance for some real internal alliance conflict but lets just ignore that in favour of best friends because Alliance even when they’re doing stuff just-as-bad-if-not-worse than the nasty Hordies.
Can’t imagine it went down well with the NPC High Elves either. "Yeah, we found these really cool research notes, enabling us to dabble in some really dark powers, and we expanded upon them. What was the name of the dude again, Illandrith Darkshadowvoiddeath? “Oh, that guy, yeah, his name was like Dark’han Drathir”
High Elves lose their Shiz at the name of the traitor who got 90% of their race killed.
Would be the logical reaction.
Blizzard Reaction.
A few High Elves go “Yeah, that sounds like a totally legit idea, lets go sit in Telogrus Rift and learn more”…
It should have been pretty much like a Practicing Jew walking into a Synagogue and going “Guys, I read this awesome book, and me and my buddies here thought we’d take this guys ideas and expand on them?”
Rabbi: “And what is the name of the book?”
"Well, it’s called ‘Mein Kampf’
God yeah the High Elves - who objected to magical vampirism being practiced by the BElves - being okay with Void Elves is the dumbest stuff.
“Our family is starving. To survive, we need to kill animals and eat them.” vs. “We decided to sell our souls to the literal devil for magical powers in a faustian bargain that we have very little control over and may turn insane at any moment while channelling a power that is the most corrupting in the universe.”
High Elves think the former is the more morally reprehensible one.
p.s. remove void elves
p.p.s. kill all high elves.
I wonder how that went down when Alleria and the other void elf guy ordered them to do stuff during their training or when they went to the fight at Undercity
The Void elves were ordered to follow the teachings of Alleria, or else they have no place in the Alliance by Anduin.
Instead they’re following Dar’khan Drathir’s teachings and going through the mental gymnastics of understanding the philosophy of the Scourge and why they really weren’t all that bad.
Do you think Alleria’s teaching them to do that? If not, according to Anduin they’re also traitors to the Alliance. But instead you have Halford “I hope you’ll see the Light one day, Shaw” Wyrmbane and the Lightforged cheering them on.
