I haven’t seen people complain about World revamps. They also “take away” old game identity and exchanging it with a new one.
That is something I can 100% understand.
The difference is, that you are arguing with someone that works with 3D models and general Media Design. There are several ways how Blizzard could improve the old textured armor.
One would be to exchange the old armor textures with newer, higher resolution ones, that are identical to the original designes. So basically just making them look cleaner.
Another would be to not just exchange textures but also adding more geometry to it.
And the best approach would be to just outright remake them while keeping the original design idea.
But since we know “old Blizzard” is gone, we shouldn’t really expect that to happen the way we players want.
Blizzards current employees may have the technical skills do make new models, but they don’t have the artistic ability and especially the will to make high res versions of the original design ideas.
Which world revamp are you talking about? Cataclysm? There were many, MANY people complaining about it, even to this very day. But even stuff like replacing the old cheetah travel form with the fluffy cat… personally I like the new model of course, but many people on the druid forums preferred the old one, and I don’t agree with flat out removing the old one.
As for new zone revamps, recently they just use Zidormi to be able to switch between the old and new version. Essentially it’s adding content while keeping the old one, not replacing it. This is the approach I vastly prefer.
Probably me. Though I would probably not be too upset by transmog items.
Now, if they try to screw up The Headless Horseman’s mount or Invincible, I will seethe. But they have screwed up the graphics and lost so much of the character of the game in the race and animation changes, that I am already despairing.
I love the armour of the fang set from Seprentshire Caverns and I’ve put it together with some great looking items and it just looks dumb because it’s so low res. A great idea!
The old blizzard you mean the chiefs. Do you really think they personally make all that stuff. The ‘grunts’ that did all that work. most of them are likely still there. Well we know what the chiefs got up to…
I have indeed seen you comment about older models but I’ve not seen anyone say they would like to hold on to old poly transmogs. I agree it wholly depends if they just actually update them or end up changing them beyond recognition.
My biggest concern with Blizzard touching any of the skimpy mogs is their need to turn everything into a cover up. I’m really rather unimpressed with the puritanical approach of the last few expansions where NPCs have had to cover up. Females are something to be hidden under clothing according to Blizzard’s approach.
I think this would be nice but I’d personally prefer if they just worked on making new, low-fantasy armour for DF. You can see the “Knight” armour in one of the gameplay reveals (I think the introduction to Dragonflight-ing) so I’d love to see more of this.
Reason being that older pieces are just painted on, whereas much of the new items like in SL are made bulkier and more 3D. I especially love the mail sets for this.
Many of my favorite mog sets come from Classic and BC, because of either the variety of crazy colors or the realism.
So I would totally be up for this.
P.S. amusing how the ‘matching armor sets with slightly different recolors’ seemed a very cool idea in Wrath, in order to avoid the craziest looks when transmogs weren’t a thing…
Transmog changed everything. Now what I want ARE the crazy vanilla and BC pieces, because they are unique.
I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that. Alot of classic gear has some volume. I’d just like it, if the textures were a little polished over time in waves, so it has a higher pixel count, and doesn’t look too odd (Maybe like the gear you get from the new starting zone).
It should definitely be done for things like classic Dungeon leveling sets/shirts/tabards/Race Mounts (e.g. Orc wolves).
Maybe even Thunderfury, since I think alot of people would like to have one with sharp edges.
This is a lovely idea as the old Vanilla/Cata graphics doesnt look very nice with the WOD updated models of our characters.
like whenever i show a selfie to my friends who dont play wow they question why the graphics looks off. and im like…well, the robe is from 2004, the character model is from 2014 and the hair is from 2020.
I think if these Transmogs graphics are updated to match our character graphics, they would look ten times better.
Look how Amazing the Vestments of the Shifting sand robe is, once updated.
