You need to “switch user”, then you get back into the login screen again and can change the region

Yea, same for everyone I guess. Funny that the US login issues might be caused by loads of EU players being assigned US login 
That sorted it. Thanks for the info.
Solution that worked for me:
Click on Go Offline then lunch wow normally and enter your password in the wow window.
Yep change servers to EU 
Looks like Battlenet app got a life of it’s own.
No need to go offline. In the same tiny Battlenet login window click on blue colored “Switch User”, it should appear at the end of the window. Then in the next screen, you click on that small cogwheel in the upper right and change your realm to Europe (EU). After that sign in with your email and password and cya in game.

I appear to be stuck in an update loop, even after reconfirming my eu servers…
Switching to Europe on the Battle,net app worked! I logged in with no issues.
