With the struggle to keep aggro thing you just explaining a warrior, some ppl have gave you tips here so you prob just doing something wrong and if a shaman using some tanking runes to keep doing more dmg but also higher their threat is not a warlock issue, its an issue with the person behind the shaman tbh.
Looks like a lot of Enhance shamans are using rockbiter and molten to min max damage, blizzard should really give them some âbetterâ dps runes so they donât need to use the tank ones in my opinion
Vanilla is much harder than retail in every, or almost every aspect, and tanking is one of them.
I play warlock tank and I could almost say the entire opposite of you, but then again, I played tank almost my entire wow experience, with multiple different classes. Warlock tank, and especially considering in a Vanilla environment, is surprisingly effective. No tanks really have that retail one-aoe-to-full-threat thing, every one of them tends to lose aggro of one or two mobs, here and there. Searing Pain takes usually two hits on average to pick up a recently lost mob, and if it doesnât, thereâs always the taunt (and even an AoE taunt for those emergencies). As for single target, with all DoTs up, itâs not uncommon to steal aggro from the other tank.
Demonic Grace feels a tad underwhelming tbh, and I only used it with weakly-geared groups where it was more likely for clutch moments to exist, other than that both Incinerate and EA work better for me. In fact, we have so much sustain from Master Channeler that Demonic Grace often was left unused for an entire raid. Not to mention VW is rather useless unless your healers are new to the task or have terrible gear, this content (at least for now) is very newplayer-friendly and is easily doable in relatively bad gear (I still run 4 or 5 weird greens, like a 3 spirit 3 stamina wrist). Imp or succ are usually preferable to the VW.
Maybe more AOE tanking help is on the way in Phase 2? Having trouble with AOE threat in early levels is a fact of Vanilla tanking, except for Paladin. I would rather Blizz not frontload all of the good stuff in LV1-25 and then people complaining that the next three phases are not âexcitingâ.
Just some very subjective feedback from someone that unlocked the rune âlateâ aka this week being 25 for a while.
So far experienced almost all tanks playing dungeons up to 25, druid and shaman standing out as allowing DPS to dish out almost unrestricted even aoe with the odd straggler breaking off ofc but nothing that feels a problem.
Warriors are in the same place I remember them in, having to keyboard DJ to keep up and limiting the group in DPS, but nothing that is âproblematicâ or unexpected.
Rogue tanks where erratic to deal with for the healer and the group, but we had an unfavourable setup maybe(druid heal, hunter and rogue DPS where overlevel).
I did not see a single warlock tank in all the dungeons running up to bfd so I assume my experience going into bfd might be the same.
I was asked to respect to DPS because an inexperienced/ âungearedâ (even though I even picked up engi for pre bis goggles and got a lot of the pre bis gear) tank was nothing theyâd like to handle.
Now, I do feel tanking feels fine, but thatâs coming from an âexperiencedâ classic warrior tank knowing that it wasnât just press one button and aoe threat is done.
I still struggle with mana as I am too scared to lifetap past 50% health but thatâs likely on me.
The real issue I see is what I described above, people havenât seen the warlock tank performing coming up to BFD, and thus arent experienced dealing with the ups and downs and naturally are wary of letting them perform through bfd.
That will be gone next phase I assume, and maybe we will get one or two tools more that may help us.
Also I think we may see a change in build viability as soon as we progress more in gear and level.
Affli/Demo hybrids seem to be the entry drug but as soon as gear progresses more in bis destro seems to dominate clear speeds and threat gen.
I kinda liked wlock tanking, big pulls threat is hard to hold yeh, but single target its easy. Corruption on every mob, lifedrain and spam tab and sp. And cleave on cd. But i hope they giv something to wlocks when we are getting in content where there are fire immune mobs. Maybe rune what change fire dmg to shadow dmg
