What did Blizzard learn after canceling Hots?

I quit HotS over a year ago already. I really like it as a nice, casual game but they moved more and more into the hardcore and e-sports demographic. The big casual player base was treated very badly, not just by the balance patches but also talked down to by streamers and pro gamers. I personally remember two instance where I was really shocked and angry about this, one time a big european streamer said live on his stream how anyone who isn’t a pro or grandmaster isn’t even playing HotS, and the other was when a pro player said, also live on his stream how bronze and silver league players were dumber than rats. These kind of things were accepted in that community.
And blizzard always followed what changes these people wanted, making the game harder and harder to play for normal players.
I’m not surprised the game couldn’t run on the top 1%. And HotS doesn’t have the single player, coop and custom map modes that saved SC2.
Maybe there is something to learn for WoW.

not really. what killed Hots tho, is how simple and easy it was, with no real aims, or aims for playerbase. I mean, who’s gonna play Hots? big part of its players are blizzard fanboys and people who like already existing characters.
it was entirely a big mess, it wasnt casual, it wasnt competitive, and balance-gameplay wise it was a mess. + too many maps.

and SC2 was always small playerbase wise, and i mean people who constantly play it, and its playerbase was more or less competitive people. HoTS wasnt anything like it.

WHAT DID BLIZZARD LEARN AFTER CANCELLING HOTS?

That they are not Gods gift to the gaming industry and they have failed to dominate all game genres, which I seem to remember was stated as one of their goals in life.

As a casual player I never had a problem with the game difficulty and I like the game. Sometimes matchmaking was bad in the quick matches but that’s normal since the ques for them need to be short and the teams cant dictate the setups of heroes.

Apart from that the game never felt like a cash grab to me- all heroes I got there, skins and mounts I unlocked by playing the game.

I remember how when HOTS was in development how it was advertised also as a MOBA more orientated to a new players to that genre and casuals which it was in the end in my POV.

The main problem because which it wasn’t as successful as it could have been is in the fact that it was a newcomer to the MOBA market on which both LOL and DOTA already existed and were strong with both having a loyal fanbase which didn’t left those games for the HOTS. So the potential player base interested for a new MOBA game was limited because of that.
