I haven’t played my rogue for sometime so I dont know to be perfectly honest but rogues shouldn’t be tanky. Each class should have its achilles heel and for Rogues it should be Warriors and/or Paladins. Massive plate wearers who’s rogues poisons and daggers just bounce off. Cloth wearers though should be toast if you jump on them.
But hey that’s just my opinion of how class pvp should work.
I’d say hunters also fall under rogue’s counters but I could be wrong.
the problem isn’t if rogues are tanky but just why stealth seems to not stop me being targeted and why even vanish doesn’t stop attacks for some reason, although that last part only seems to be on NPCs
How to Rogue:
- If you want to 1v1 inspect them: Are they tank or a squishy? What kind of class to expect what abilities to counter? Do they have a stealthy friend nearby?
-If you do it as a group: Always hit and run, never be around in the middle or the front of the fight.
They can be OP if you practice and master the class.
Could be worse, you could be a Feral Druid with only very rudimentary stealth

Staying stealthed is about playing clever and it is not broken in any way. Rather than complaining you should seek to better yourself. I have no problems using stealth and I’m not even feral.
Bring back old stealth that slowed the rogues so there was some tradeoff to not being seen and when “from behind” meant really behind, not a half-circle (not to mention some abilities had the restriction removed completely). Times when all hunters had baseline hunter’s mark prevented stealth and could not be cleared by vanish or cloak so there was an actual counter to stealth.
Tbh if you die in world pvp as a rogue you are doing something wrong big time
Damage takes you out of stealth. AoE’s take you out of stealth, if you don’t want magical DoTs to take you out of stealth use Cloak of Shadows as you Vanish, As vanish only makes you immune of getting knocked out of stealth for 3 seconds, and all dots are far longer than that.
Oh also try to play a class without stealth, and I promise you will never complain again.
Stealth is not invisbility, mobs and players are supposed to detect you if you get too close. Use some subtlety.
Also, stack the Resounding Protection trait on Azerite gear. I have it on all 3 pieces which gives me a 50k or something bubble every 30 seconds, and if it absorbs DOT damage it stops you from being knocked from stealth.

My only problem with stealth is that pvp guards keep chasing you even after you use vanish. Now that wmode is optional and people can opt out of it, I would love for guards to finally drop agro with things like vanish and feign death.
you got cloak of shadows for that. stealth is for avoiding things and ambushing people by taking the iniative. just a bit less useful when you enter a huge fight in some bg in wich you often get bleeding effects or dots
Cloak of shadows is useless against bleeds tho.
As for the stealth not working part, at least in pve it’s horribly buggy. I oftentimes use vanish and the enemies simply don’t care, or I go shadowmeld with my druid and the trash mobs finish off their target and then switch to me, even tho I’m in stealth 40 yards away. It’s very unreliable.
true but its magical dots most of the time so in most cases cloak does help.
And well that with the trash mobs happened to me as well, but that only happens to me if im in a raid and i vanish before i am the last one alive. the same happens sometimes with feign death
But you can still use sprint.
this makes more sense. its hard to know what situations the OP is talking about, so people will obviously reply with what they did.
as long as you dont have dots on you, the main issue seems to be with pve. 2 examples being:
- (like yours) wiping in a raid, boss targets you, you vanish (with no dots) the boss targets everyone else and kills them, but THEN targets you again even though you are in stealth. and
- guards in towns/cities. they dont have stealth detection (blue eye) but they chase you and chase you for miles. either give them the blue eye, or fix them chasing you. either fix is fair.
the only other occasion i can think of is (usually against mages) where you vanish, but they’ve cast a spell (like fireball) and it hits you AFTER vanish. this is made worse by SOMETIMES, you’ve vanished BEFORE they finished their cast. not always, but sometime. this SHOULD interrupt the cast, but sometimes doesn’t. but sometimes it does! its just so random!
there are random times stealth bugs out, but they’re too infrequent and randomly buggy to recall or use as an argument for more than saying “it does happen”.

Dont fight toe to toe as rogue - play dirty.
If u wanna play toe to toe play warrior or other class.
I’d just like to make a point to remind everyone that the problem isn’t so much of if I can survive a fight as a rogue, it’s more that Stealth and Vanish just seem too inconsistent and unreliable, like already stated things like guards ignoring vanish and enemies turning on you after killing your party members, that also sort of extends to followers drawing enemies but that’s unrelated.
also I’ve already said that I’m careful not to get too close to red names and enemy players unless I’m actually planing on fighting them
