Where did the setting go wrong?

Fawning over Heartstone for giving cool vibes.

I do wish that we had patches or in game events that expand on smaller locations in Azeroth, from Kobold Catacombs, to the Mean Streets, or even stuff like Rastakhan’s Rumble.

They all hold this “silly cartoon” vibe that WoW often sports, but still maintain a level of stakes/seriousness to it.

Even some serious things they’ve done as AU/non-canon was extremly well done. The Lich King expansion about the heroes turning into DK’s was really well executed. So was the alternative timeline in which ALL Old Gods returned. More serious in tone but really well done.

No. No, no. No, please no. Not Patches. Anything but Patches…

Well, I am not an expert of the forgotten realms since I only played BG3, but I would say that his major trait is him being a vampire spawn, not an elf. But I digress, I am not prepared to speak about the setting beyond BG3 simply because I do not know it.

Very much so, and it was something you’d see with other NPCs all over the Horde. The Horde people of the Horde were a wonderful cacophony of cultural identities trying to stay together and today I just don’t see that anymore.

A good point to make. Also, when they make something nice, they are also kind of minor quests (like the orc heritage) or secluded within themselves (like the centaurs).

I am still trying to wrap around what exactly the primalists hate about the titans because as far as I can see, this has not been fleshed out.

Remember that meanwhile we have…

The blue dragonflight’s storyline, about loss and renewal, and Kalecgos finding (once again) confidence to lead the Dragonflight (again) - honestly I think this storyline was excellent. But it is still a story of renewal.

The bronze dragonflight’s storyline with Eternus, about compassion and acceptance of grief, which really doesn’t work imho, and it is about Nozdormu having to be lectured about the meaning of compassion, forgiveness, and diplomacy.

Alexstrasza meanwhile is trying to be all diplomatic with the Primalists, with Vyranoth especially, being all compassionate and asking to be forgiven and showing compassion.

And before you had the dragonspawn workers, where the moral is the same.

Then we are about to have a new World Tree which will be about compassion and forgiveness or something like that between the forsaken and the night elves, most likely.

Pirate rush decks was one of the most awful metas. I hated it so much.

You talking a lot of #!@# for someone in double heroic strike distance.

Excuse me while I demon-spam as Nemsy. Or play removal Mage because I am very boring (Yes I do play blue decks in MtG aswell).

As shaman rper I was absolutely hyped for them because it could have led to my character struggle with his loyalties and such…but instead I just have to kill random vulpera and elf npc’s in shaman gear and that’s just it…

the fact that I don’t know if this is a joke from you or if its actually in the game is basically the answer to your og question.

If I were to guess or think something up myself, it would be that they consider the Titans to disrupt a sort of natural order? Yeah it was absolute chaos with the elemental lords, but it was also more true to Azeroth without interference. The titans directly changed things to their own needs and believes.

Also, didn’t Azeroth’s nascent Titan Soul cause a lot of the issues? By absorbing too much Spirit it upset the balance, meaning the Elements went to war and then the Old Gods AND Titans rocked up to stick their oars in?

I’m a bit rusty on the ‘cosmic’ lore tbf

I mean, doesn’t the game spell out what they are about in the Primalist future? It’s just a world of ice, earthquakes, fire, all raging elements like we’re back to the start of Azeroth.

Something like that.

But yeah, the Titans while “Order” on the cosmic alignment scales very much interferes with natural order by meddling. Even if it’s for the better for most life.

The primalists are just Team Aqua/Magma from Pokémon, and thinks that everything will be so much better if they just “make things right” (Only to realize, “oh wait, we didn’t think this through, did we?”)

While i agree that there was always some whimsical vibes in wows history (probably more of a benefit of the game then anything) , what the setting needs right now is more WC3 Samwise style vibes rather then league of E.V.I.L vibes tbh.

The player character and certain faction leaders being thrust into the limelight and not leaving since… Cataclysm, in some cases. Is grating. I, personally, preferred it when raids were cleared by the factions - Such as the Horde clearing MGT and Alliance taking SWP - or just “a group of mercenaries”, in the case of ZA.

Blizzard’s hyperfocus on a handful of characters has been a detriment to, at the very least, said character.

Like I said earlier, conflict doesn’t have to be large scale. I’ll take the skirmishing and shoulder-barging of Vanilla over another faction conflict again. Something that gives room for the option of conflict.

It doesn’t help that whenever the Horde has a genuine grievance with the Alliance, its never made into a lingering plot point or it’s rapidly forgotten. And if it comes up again, it’s either dismissed because it’s not on the side of renewal - such as Magister Hathorel.

That is fair, honestly. While I loved league of E.V.I.L, I don’t think it’s something I want to see in Warcraft every day on the regular.

I think part of why it was amazing to me was because it was a one and done kinda deal.

100% agree. I do not mind skirmishes at all and that feels almost kinda given to the setting even in relative peace time. I just don’t want it to be center-stage for the time being.

A very tiresome addition to this is that whenever the Alliance does something sketchy its always with a convenient excuse to make them in the right to do it. Even when there really isn’t an excuse the writing/narrative really tries to make you think it is.

Gilneans and Forsaken should be scrapping because no one is going to say ‘Uncle’.

Night Elves that are Not Ok with the enforced ‘Renewal’ decision (meta wise) should go back to making Horde forces afraid that the trees in Northern Kalimdor are suddenly whispering in Darnassian.

The Goblins should be getting into fights with whatever is in the way of their resources (again)

The list goes on.

Conflict = Good
Faction War = Bad
