Why are people so upset over the water strider changes?

Ohhh you mean that post… but this is still true… you can farm it from lvl 90… maybe earlier (I don’t remember, when you can start farm rep for anglers) now you have to wait until 100

also there may be players, who want to experience the content…
I always make a exp stop at lvl 80 when I level up a character, because I want to do Northrend first

People did a long grind to get something very specific.
Now that very specific thing will be availible for everyone, which gives them the feeling the grind was in vain. Its not hard to understand.

I can’t wait for the excuses for a system that added nothing to the people that did the grind but only took away. “But I need to pay 50G per char for water walking! You got 1 free and can get alt theirs for 40G!”

You know I share the sentiment this is petty revenge from the devs petty revenge they lost the battle in WoD and Legion.

Edit: Here is our big discount for having done the grind. The standard 20% for being exalted /sigh

Give me a 200% water mount and I’ll agree, but afaik they are all 160% :frowning: The point, imho, of water walking in BfA is to avoid going along the shore and encountering the wildlife thereupon, but if you lose a chunk of speed doing so it rapidly becomes less appealing.

The equipment becomes available to characters at level 100, but it is BoA, so you can buy it on your main and mail it to levelling alts.

Thats how i feel about the Titanforging- working to get my bis item from raid or m+ only to get better one from world quest or emissary.
Its kinda similar for these who used to grind for this mount, but still think some people are exaggerating a little.

Dude, you do realized that horses, tigers and wingless dragons can fly in this game, right? We can walk on water with a potion. DKs can create a thin layer of ice that somehow hold their weight over water and that you can walk around with over 300 mounts that you can summon out of thin air.

Do you really want talk about what makes sense?

My problem with this is that Blizzard is just making the game bland. You can achieve everything with no effort and all the RPG mechanics are being removed for the sake of convenience.

It seems to be a part of a design direction Blizzard has been on for a few years now, and now it seems clear as day. MMO Adventure Game, not RPG.

That’s the problem, you’re using logic in a fantasy game where horses can fly.

Water striders can only run across water because their size and weight allows them to use the water’s surface tension to their advantage.

These water striders in game are too big and would weigh too much, especially carrying an armour clad humanoid.

That’s what happens when you try to apply real world logic to fantasy.

Also, the original dread and wrath steeds for warlocks could run on water. A good decade before the water strider.

Space Satan just stabbed our planned with a sword he materialised out of nowhere and now we’re using the planet’s blood to make weapons.
That makes no sense, a lot of the things in this game don’t make sense. Because fantasy.

My take on it properly.

I’ll log in, click water walking boots effect.

And never ever revisit the feature ever again.

Now what about the Druid travel forms would they also get a mount equipment slot? Also what about the Druid class mount from Legion because it is not so much a mount, but rather a new look for the flight form? Are the Druids getting an even shorter end of the stick? I mean their travel forms are already 30% slower than regular ground of flying mounts?

Just finished watching the Bellular YouTube video and there are some interesting things he says in there:

  1. The mount equipment slot is character collection specific and not mount specific meaning all the mounts in the collection gets the same perk that you fit in the mount equipment slot. So you can’t fit one mount with a water walking perk and another with an anti-stun perk to have 2 condition specific mounts on your taskbar. If you fit anti-stun after you have fitted water walking, the anti-stun will destroy the water walking and visa versa so you will have to carry multiple mount equipment items of each type if you wish to change between the perks. I think this could have worked better if the mount equipment slot was mount specific so you could setup different mounts with different attributes. The slot being character collection specific also means that you will have to buy mount equipment for each one of your characters, but this is already known.

  2. Sky Golems would not benefit from the mount equipment slot because they already have a perk in the form of the herbing while mounted attribute.

According to Blizzard the main reason for this change is because too many people use water striders and not their other mounts (especially the store bought ones) at the start of an expansion. Why is this so? Because at the start of any expansion that has lots of ocean, rivers and lakes and no flying, water walking makes the most sense. Now Blizzard what would you guess will be the number 1 perk fitted to all ground mounts? Yes water walking because in the next expansion there will be ocean, rivers and lakes and not flying. So most people will fit water walking and that would be the end of it. They would not change frequently it because it costs gold to do so. Once flying is unlocked anti-stun, slow fall and even water walking will become irrelevant, but once the next expansion (version 9.0.x) hits water walking will be popular again so why change it?

Here is a thought. Make and expansion that allows you to fly within the first month or even the first day of play and everyone will be using their favorite mounts including the store bought ones as soon as they can fly.

Simple. Majority of those who have done it are bewailing the fact that they put in effort for something that is eventually being normalized and made optional for everyone, give or take some people who have the ludicrous notion that this ‘gear’ has to be bought in spades and spread around all their characters (when the more likely assumption is that it’ll work just like the Battle Pet tab - you equip what you want on your mounts and they apply to everyone, once off, no fuss).

The people who DID complete that grind will have the benefit of getting said equipment for pocket-change, whereas those who have not will have to resort to using more expensive vendors, up to thousands of gold for an equipment piece last I remember. I’ll leave it up to the WS owners to argue whether they feel that them getting the equipment far cheaper is worth it.

I’m not one of them, hence I welcome this change as there was nothing more annoying than NOT being on my Shaman (water-walking), not having a death-knight in the group and not having my own Water Strider in situations where you want to keep up with people.

I’ve been using the Sea Turtle for years, which basically allows you to mount-swim slightly faster than standard swimming. That was decent back in the day, but it’s slower than all other mounts on the ground and is very embarassing when you’re floating along on your little Sea Turtle while whole groups rush past on their striders.

It’s not exactly game making or game breaking, but Blizzard rightly took notice. It also means that those who DID do the work are also somewhat limited in their own mount choice. Why would you equip your favourite mount you grinded for / bought / looted when you’ll likely need that water-walking?

Now everyone can have that luxury for a variable fee - or, if they don’t value it as much as others, choose a different perk.

There is nothing bad about this change whatsoever.

On one hand, slightly annoyed I went through that rep grind.

On the other hand, Path of Frost bee yootches.

They should have made different mount classes with class attributes like a flying class, water walking class, fast running class with +30% speed, jumping class that can leap +300% higher and further, climbing class that can climb up vertical surfaces, swimming class for underwater travel etc.

To add:

-Sturdy class - no dazing but slowest mounts: Elek, mammoth, boar, Kodo
-Speeding up classes (The longer you run the faster you go): Horse, unicorns, Hawkstriders
-Fast class (max speed slower than speeding up class) but almost instantly max speed: Wolves
-Enhanced jumping: Cats
-Battle chargers (stun enemy briefly you run into): Talbuks, rams, goats

How mount equipment will work? I can use water walking on my mount#1 and non dazed equipment on my mount#2? Or I will use one equipment for every mounts at once?
Because I want use water walking on my strider and anti-dazed on my another mount. I will just use one for water surfaces and second for ground as I do now.
But if equipment is shared for all mounts, it would be really bad change (as usual was most of blizzard “super awesome” changes).

All the mounts on the same character gets the same perk. You only have 1 mount equipment slot that covers all the mounts. So if you fit water walking all your mounts on that character will have water walking. If you replace the mount equipment item the old one is destroyed the same as with a gem slot on a gear item. In short 1 mount equipment slot per character that gives the same perk to all the mounts.

So again they fixing what doesn’t need to be fixed, and removing good thing… again.
I wonder, why sky golem can keep his perk and don’t gain mount equipment slot, but water strider can lose his per and gain mount equipment slot?
How can Blizzard use double standart for one same thing?
Same with tank spec, why tanks can’t get dismount/dazed if they can equip anti-dazed perk? Why DK and shaman can use waterwalking(WW) without using WW perk on mounts?
They should decide if they want everything in same way for everyone, or make difference between specs, classes or those, who farmed/grinded water strider, herbal mount.

If they removing water walking from water strider, they shoud remove herb collecting from sky golem and add perk for herb collecting we can use for all mounts. Why we can have ONE specific mount for herbs, but we cant have ONE(two) specific mounts for water walking? Hmm…

SO if they want this mount changes as they announced, they must remove dazed immunity for tanks, water walking spell from DK and shaman and force EVERYONE to use mount perks. Right? All with same standart without exceptions!

Game is in the worse stand and they are trying expel all players from game? Or they are trying how far they can go?

The Sky Golem is only keeping it’s perk for now, but it is surely the next to be “fixed”.

Yea, that whats Blizzard do, they’re “fixing” things (especially thing don’t need to be fixed). I hope they will fix tanks (dazed), DK’s, and shammans (water walking) soon too.
