That’s like saying that if I call myself a spider, I’m an enemy of Australia.
Your race does not imply affiliation.

That’s not to mention that Fel permanently scars your body, last I knew at least.
Seems like the Light is perfectly capable of restoring someone otherwise marred by Fel.
Not only do we see this with Xe’ra almost lightforging Illidan, but the blood elves themselves have the option of Sunwell-infused peepers nowadays. Plus their original blues, which to me implies that their corruption wasn’t so fierce as to be permanent quite yet.
Your race does not imply affiliation.
With Thalassian Elves, a name means everything. They may be the same race physically but it is very clear the distinction between calling yourself Blood or High Elves decides whether you support Silvermoon or not and that is vital. Lor’themar famously threw everyone not wanting to call themselves Blood Elf out.

You strike me as the type of person who would get the form of a Faceless one and RP in a city with that type of argument.
Lor’themar famously threw everyone not wanting to call themselves Blood Elf out.
Specifically, he threw out everyone who refused to accept eating mana from animals (and then invited them all back once the Sunwell was restored).

And then he offered an invitation back to those who changed their mind and want to call themselves Blood elves after all.
That’s why they have blue eyes. High elves who returned, embracing their identity as a Blood elf. Although it started as an homage to the fallen, it has since evolved into something else following the political divide that led to the exile of the High elves.
Which means that by extension, the act of calling yourself High Elf is to announce you disagree with Lor’themar and are defying the laws and authority of Silvermoon - a rebel nom de guerre of sorts.
You don’t get to re-enter Silvermoon until you have renounced that and swear fealty to Quel’Thalas and Lor’themar again.
It’s almost as though pandering to the high elf crowd and allowing void elves to completely shed the aesthetic differences that separated them from blood elves was a bad idea.
Oh, right, I’m sorry. I had no idea the Lore was this black and white now, I apologize.
I can’t see the reason to defend Blood elves in Stormwind, if you want to be a Horde deserter (and not the cool kind which are Void elves) just call yoursel what you are, a High elf. No Blood elf in their right mind would stick with their Horde name trying to be friends with Alliance.
Let’s take an ateist human irl that starts to go to church and believe in God. That person would not call him/herself an ateist anymore but christian, but it’s still the same human. If you change cultural group, you change your definition. ('m not best with examples ok)
Edit: my brain wrote silvermoon instead of stormwind, made the point kind of invalid

TIL
I figured it was a representation of the fading Fel taint, in the absence of such being used city-wide in a post Quel’Danas nation.

Not like people weren’t doing it before those customizations were even hinted at tbh.
It was really funny to watch betentacle’d grapes larp as blonde, fair-skinned elves.
Because, for all people belabour the decrease in it recently, Open World RP has really never actually been that good in cities. This is just more of the same gumpf, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
Yeah blood elves in Alliance cities has been a thing since TBC. Just back then people used human models. You probably see an uptick in it lately because of the new customisation but it’s not a new thing.
Probably both, in the new (don’t know how new it actually is) Blood elf intro it says something about them hoping the light would cure the fel iirc
It is implied blue eyes for Elves living in Eversong and Silvermoon are coming back now the Sunwell is back in full force. That should make the name someone carries be even more important as a sign of allegiance now as eyes are not a give away anymore.
Amusingly, High Elves that went to Outland should have had Green eyes too but this was never implemented in-game.
Let them, it’s easier to show my Horde-killing permit and blow their brains out with my trusty rifle.
“my permit is more important than your permit” “no u” “no u”
Void elves might have been a garbage addition to the lore, but Blizzard could have at least stuck to their guns and worked with what they had created. I would’ve applauded such a show of integrity. Instead, they gave up after BFA and now they’ve created another Pandaren situation and sacrificed the identity of an entire allied race (and arguably the identity of blood elves too) in order to pander to the high elf crowd.

Lor’themar offered the High elves a chance to return in Under Shadow of the Sun as the final step of his path to penance and making amends with the exiles. Some of them spit on his name, saying it’s too little too late but he doesn’t recant the offer.

I would add that technically speaking, Lor’themar only extended this offer to 1 particular Lodge who don’t represent all High Elf factions. But realistically, yes it probably would extend to all High Elves.
