Why renaming Wirt's Third Leg?

Changes that no1 asked for that no1 cares except some crazy ppl who prolly get offending by everything that moves .
Incompetence at it’s best .
Old mentality devs who wanna show they care by doing nothing relevant to the game .

What frustrates me is that they never consult the rest of the English speaking world. Many of the things they’ve changed have no bad meaning outside the US. The game’s supposed to be localised but I doubt we’ll get to keep the original words in EU.

When I read new Blizzard devs twitts, I think earth shoud be purge from human kind. Often they respondes are vision only from one side of problems, but that kind of things are never flat.
For example if you see roller from one view point you see circle, rectangle but when you will see it from few view points you will see cuboid.
Oftens people see everything from they view point totaly ignore people around them.
This issue we can observe in game when developers see game only from code view point and sadly often don’t see graphic designers and players view points.

damsel

/ˈdamz(ə)l/

noun

archaic•literary

noun: damsel; plural noun: damsels

  1. a young unmarried woman.

And a damsel in distress means that they are weak and can’t help themselves sure.
Is that a BAD thing?
If you’re a young unmarried woman and you’re in trouble… well you shouldn’t be! (according to Blizz)
It’s absurd.

So beeing unmaried women in wow is no longer allowed? Noo. I’m going to stop playing then.

Nobody really, REALLY, gives a crap when they change stuff like this.
It doesn’t benefit anyone, it just really doesn’t.

Blizz is becoming the word police, and no, i don’t like that.
If you were bothered by the word damsel, you (generally speaking) probably have a mental illness, sorry to say.

They were bothered a lot, but if they remove that word from game names this also means it will be censured in game chat? Because damsel is just shortcut from French “mademoiselle”. This is strange for me because even in my coutnry we borrowed this word and use it to describe young sophisticated and elegant ladies.

Same for other countries… but apparently it’s a bad word now and shouldn’t be used. :face_with_monocle:

They are cringe. 1 dev twitted that this changes wanted by some devs - if u don’t want to support them aka its ur own problems. Nice. Unbelievable cretinism.

Probably from the same guy whose 10 years old daughter qqd about garrosh “b1tch” line.

In Blizzard’s mind, renaming everything in-game and changing women into fruits will fix every single internal company strife.

Who knows, it might pay off in the end by telling whatever judge they may face that they changed all this stuff and go off scot free… But undoubtably erode whatever goodwill they have with people still playing WoW.

At this rate, the Teletubbies will end up having more edge compared to WoW before 9.1.5 even shows up.

Easier said than done. Those kinds of people usually fall into some kind of “Protected Class” and there’s a good chance they’ll sue the stuffing out of the company.
Wouldn’t matter if they’re fired from incompetence, those people usually are incapable of realizing that a problem may be with them rather than the employer.

You lost me at “Far right”, because that has grown to be a meaningless title due to how overused it is.

Neither could they have taken into consideration that people may not have caught on to any innuendo, despite people saying “Oh yes, this was obvious to everyone what it meant!”

Big Love Rocket? Just a pink rocket that looks like it’d be used by a romantic Goblin.
Wirt’s Third Leg? Considering how many times we loot the leg in different games, someone would probably want to go make multiple legs incase they get lost.

If we were to see those devs,I have a good feeling they’d look like someone who fell head-first into a bucket of neon paint of some kind, had metal bits applied to their face, and has a permanent scowl.

Which is what I went on to say immediately after, but you didn’t reach that point because …

… you couldn’t get over the word “far right”.

The reason far right has become meaningless is that it refers to two very different groups and Americans have been very keen to confuse the two and condemn them vigorously, tossing in several groups that aren’t extremists at all for good measure, and then violently revolting against them. In fact, I would argue that one of them doesn’t belong on that wing at all, as it is fundamentally a socialist ideology.

I am referring to extremely hierarchical and callous people getting away with murder due to their social ranking and sheer power over their peers, and where positions are inherited between friends rather than given to the most competent person around; something similar to a monarchy.

Can you really blame me though? I see people being called that purely for benign reasons, often being sharing a meme or video from a Youtuber that someone doesn’t like.

May have missed that part, so that’s on me.

Though this does imply to switch out the leadership. That would be a start, but you’d still have to contend with the same group who often are unqualified but have a role of power due to the kind of hierarchy you mention. And it’s a hierarchy that doesn’t have much “Right” in it, usually more of the wilder leftern sides.

I understand very well why you feel this way, but there is one, and only one, person who made that exact decision: You.

I’m… not sure.

I don’t actually think Mike Ybarra is one of these people at all. He oversaw XBox while they were releasing tons and tons of edgy games.

Jen O’neal I’m a little more sceptical about, but I simply do not know. Either way, she definitely knows how to keep people productive and she just oversaw the remaking of a game with almost all of the things being banned in World of Warcraft, including excessive blood, harems, suggestive themes, demons who embody negative feminine stereotypes, extreme violence, women with exposed navels, and all the rest of it - and though there were brief attempts to change those things, the feedback from the community was swift, precise, and heeded. In addition, the overall quality of the release is very high - definitely within range of what I would have expected from 1995-2016 Blizzard.

So I have some faith. They can recover this. It’s just not ever yet.

Its about connotations and Blizz removing words that have negative gender connotations (or possible…) , I’m not saying I agree with it. I’m just explaining it to you. No need to be exasperated with me about it.

I know you’re just explaining, no worries.

Just saying that to show how stupid the change is, because if someone is offended by the word damsel… due to its known “damsel in distress” it means they’re really self conscious, at an unhealthy level.

third leg is a reference to a part of the male anatomy …

and we all know anything male in games in 2021 joke or not is offensive and must be removed /sarcasm

blizzard have lost their sense of humour it seems with the sackings.

While NW beating world recrods steam onlines peaks and FF preparing to release new expansion, blizzard devs searching for dick jokes and hiding womans.

yeah man im about to boot NW up for the first time today

Ook wow in the dooker

I think most rational people agree that the devs have lost the plot at this stage.

But to be honest these forums just strike me as a noise making machine all screeching to shout the loudest to make their unoriginal badly articulated opinions heard and looking for the topic of the day to bandwagon on like sheeple in a herd.

People generally aren’t even self aware enough to see the irony in the situation. They can’t fathom how someone can be outraged by “Black / damsel / concubine / whatever” yet here they are, expressing outrage.

Just as a thought exercise though:- Picture 200 years ago when forward thinking people were trying to get slavery abolished or 100 years ago when women were fighting for the vote. I’d imagine there were quite a lot of people kicking back against the wokeness of it all…
