I think having a device to pause the kids would be even better
Because you’re not playing Sonic the Hedgehog, Karen!
Chances are, high enough tbh, that if u paused for whatever reason someone will quit.
Also, who will pause? Leader? Vote to pause? For how long could u do it?
Imo only content where we could realy use some kind of pause ( no cd recover no regen, nothing just pure pause) are solo visions, where its only you and you only in some kind of timed content.
In stuff like m+/raids/pvp/etc, its not realy needed, your keybord stoped working, happens, u failed one key in 100+ or so and if u need that pause every other run, timed content isnt for you then.
Wouldn’t pausing defeat the reason to have a timer, if you need to discuss stuff do it beforehand. Pausing is like fighting a war and asking the other side to stop fighting so you can reload.
Real time strategy games are not the same as a multiplayer games. Pausing a solo game is not the same as pausing a game many people are playing at the same time.
The only way I could see it working was if it paused EVERYTHING. Cooldown timers, movement, regen, everything and it had a limit, so for instance it lasts 5 minutes (or another fixed time) and there is only one per instance, done by the leader only.
actually, i love the fluent gameplay of m+ and a timer would disrupt that. having a mouse/keyboard break down is rather rare from my experience and well, it happens, just move on.
i still remember years ago my guild had a cigarette break after almost every boss, dragging out the whole raid time. really disliked that.
I have a spare keyboard and mouse that would take 1 minute at most to plug in. The only time one has broken on me is when I have abused it in frustration or spilt a drink on it.
SC2 is a real time strategy game where you’re up against other players. You can pause.
Overwatch is a shooter where you’re 12 people in a game, with a timer. You can pause in custom groups. Should tournaments in OW just continue when someone’s gear breaks “Well, sorry, no pausing”?
Changing keyboard and mouse wouldn’t help in my situation because it’s ICUE that broke down. Not the keyboard/mouse itself. Plugging in another keyboard/mouse would just make them go by what’s already in the program and if the program doesn’t work properly, neither does the keyboard/mouse.
Turn it off while playing then.
Then I can’t use the side buttons on the mouse. Which kind of defeats the purpose of having a mouse with side buttons in the first place.
Just imagine the drama.
It would have either to be a vote pause like some RTS use them or handled exlusively by the leader.
“Guys, i need to go to the bathroom”
vote pause
denied
“Guys…? I really need to…”
vote pause
denied
“Wasn’t there some dude who needed to leak some fluids…?”
“Nevermind.”
Or just imagine how many DPS after getting denied for 2 hours would put up their key and simply set the group on pause after start. Just to punish tanks+healers who did not invite them before.
Having something happen and disturb your run is bad luck - but allowing a pause would introduce so many toxic possibilities into the mix. I am willing to bet that a majority of people who run M+ like the aspect of it that the run is “guaranteed” to be over in X time.
How is that a punishment? You can just leave. You’re not forced to stay in a key just because you started it.
It would probably be a nightmare for them to implement a pause feature into WoW
They’d have to pause CD’s, enemies, the timer, affixes, internal CDs on things like Azerite traits and trinkets.
What would be nice is a “rest point” half way through but honestly most of the dungeons take less than 30mins. Sometimes you get unlucky, it’s not like your mouse and keyboard mess up often.
Because somebody just stole a portion of your gametime? If somebody invited you to a key just to pause it at the start and go away, you CERTAINLY would just say “Well, happens!” and leave without any hard feelings?
People are already basically doing this with leaving groups…but pausing the dungeon would be a vastly superior tool to troll the entire group. There is nothing Blizzard could do, either. A player can always claim IRL emergency.
Edit:
Just to be clear: I am NOT claiming that this would happen constantly. The question is would it happen often enough to impact more players negatively than it helps players who use the feature in the supposed way? I would argue yes.
Yes? It’s not normal to get pissed over someone trolling you that way, lol.
It was worse when people signed for more in LFD and queued you right into a pack so you instantly died when you joined. Or they terrain exploited so you fell to your death as soon as you joined. I still got a laugh out of those.
With the LFG tool who you group with is entirely in your control, unlike the LFD tool.
That’s your take on it. I am not sure the majority of players would share your sentiment. Especially if it happens to them repeatedly.
Then they need to learn to deal with trolling.
Maybe we are getting closer to the root of the issue why you asked for such feature in the first place…?
Yeah, because I totally find it fun to go into keys to troll.
No. I just don’t get pissed when someone trolls me like that, I’d just leave.
I would love that feature, and ofcouse it should pause eveything. Like cooldowns, movements etc… and only ONCE for each run. Can’t see what it would break or what would be the downside.
