Why Torghast failed so hard?

i played MM hunter only useing bow no armor

I don’t mind dungeons if they are made so that they are fun to do and have exploration side in them but stuff like M+ with its run against clock crap is something i have hated in games since C64 days.

Torghast on add and alpha stage sounded tons of fun but sadly it too became this boring butt run run gogogogogo crap like dungeons have became over the years.

Give me new dungeons done in a way of old BRD dungeon(s) which actually feel like an adventure to do.
I was actually excited about torghast when it was announced and was told how it was explorable endless ever changing dungeon but what we got isn’t anything at all what was adverticed on its announcement.

And yes i do PvP mostly open world pvp or what is even left of it because that is what drew me in to this game the WORLD of warcraft not run inside linear toothpaste tube “dungeon” that you squeeze the party through as fast as you can.

Yes the concept of Torghast was cool but the final product is so far from the actuall adverticement that its not even funny.

I like your opinion, and I’m from the vanilla times aswell, but unfortunately for us both, times have changed, and so has the majority of the people playing it.

If it’s not ‘zerg zerg zerg’, people will screech, which is also one of the reason that Torghast probably changed from what it was in beta, to what it was live.

But the thing is there is so many different difficulties and different modes that they could had easily made some fun exploration mode there as well with puzzles to solve without constantly feeling like i have to run around like a headless chicken.

I would had loved with levels where there would had been rooms full of puzzles to solve to get to the treasure chest there could still had been bosses and stuff but more on emphasis on puzzle solving and tomb raiding.

It’s weird for me bc I like both. I enjoy puzzles/exploration, but I also enjoy dungeon content. I grew up playing both types of games, even DND etc and genuinely enjoy going through instances to break up the open world content.

Though I do wish non timed content was incentivised a bit more. Or different modes too, like what you suggested about puzzle rooms. Though I can also see massive outcry bc people just aren’t as group/puzzle-inclined it seems? it’s either casual content or speedrun/hardcore content that people flock to from what I’ve seen.

[edit: not sure why it isn’t showing as a reply on my screen but I’m replying to Fydron incase it’s confusing idk].

I like Torghast but I couldn’t grind it. Once or twice a week is enough to get souls or the like.

amen to this

I respectfully disagree with you.

Loads of players love to collect mounts, transmogs , and achievements from new and old content. Not everything in game is about character power.

And even if you are right, and most of people don’t care about stuff like this, nobody will start hating it as they do Torgast now (in Sesaon 1 i did it every week on 2 chars because i didn’t want to get behind progress curve, and got sick of it, now i don’t want to come even close to it)

It should have been just a fun activity with crazy powers that you do for fun whenever you feel like it (for mounts , transmogs, achievement, or just for fun). This way, i bet, it could have been something people would come back to thorough out the whole expanison, maybe even after.

Simple : they schould have made torghast dungeons with gear like normal dungeons and then make the m+ aswell
That could have been fun

A lot of players farm old dungeons and raids for Glory Achieves, Tier Set Mogs, mounts, pets or just to see them.

Not everyone is a M+, Raid, PvP only player.

Torghast should have been a current content version of this playstyle but it wasn’t.

I personally disagree. Would be a nightmare to balance. Right now, even the 8-10 dungeons are hard to balance and make even, not to mention Torghast which has the powers.

True. If it would be possible to get enough much soul ash / cinders instantly, it wouldn’t have been such an issue.

I didnt like it for a few reason’s

  • torghast itself looks way to boring
  • some powers where much stronger, making it feel bad if you didnt get this.
  • it just felt super clunky to me
  • wasnt really a challenge
  • at some moment i had 6 character’s i was playing and damn the grind gets so boring if it’s something you dont enjoy
  • the powers of some classes or specs where superb over others

Think these are my main reasons. They could make torghast much cooler if they thought it out better. Now it felt like some kind of minigame that wasnt done yet

You should try affli lock or frost mage,it feels amazing to die every time mob comes in mele range

dunno if ion’s idea but because ion exists

It had no gear reward is the main reason it failed.

If it had a one time weekly gear reward, based on difficulty, like visions or even warfronts. Then I’m sure it would have been more popular.

It served no purpose after you got enough cinders which was a dire concept for the majority of people who play for gear/character progression.

Do you realize that torghast has lot of achievements, transmogs, pets and mounts right?

It failed because of 3 main reasons:

  1. They became repetitive very quickly, which is why Torghast was given the nickname Choreghast. To quote Zero Punctuation: “There are more combinations for a deck of cards than there are atoms in the universe, but Solitaire, nevertheless, starts to feel a bit samey after the first few billion games.”
  2. There was no real reward for doing Torghast apart from Soul Ash, so unlike say the mage tower, there was no reason to ever do them apart from your legendary.
  3. People, really, didn’t like the limited death system. It’s why they changed it in 9.1.

Honestly, I believe the reason that most people despised Torghast was due to the fact that the only way to gather the crafting materials needed to forge your legendary, was to do Torghast. At the start of the expansion, you didn’t have a choice.

Torghast could have been done so well! Exclusive limited-time transmogs like with Mage Tower would have been fantastic! Sadly, it was not to be, and Torghast will go right with Warfronts and Islands in the pile of terrible expansion features.

I disagree.

It was because they drip fed the powers, and by the time you were having fun, and had the anima powers to make it fun, the entire run was over.

If they had allowed us the powers in the first 20% or so of the runs, it would be far more enjoyable, and fun.

i disagree.

In a way Torgast did award gear rewards - you could not get your Legos without it, so you had to spam it , and in first season you had to farm it every week if you wanted Lego as quickly as you can get it, and Lego is a big part of character progression this expansion.

If it had weekly gear reward (ilvl appropriate) i feel it would be even worse for the game. It is probably true that players would play it more because they would feel that they have to because of the gear they want to get in their weekly cap, but in the end i feel they would hate it even more than they do now. (same was with warfronts, and Islands … I HATED THEM, but had to do them because i needed something from them. Visions i didn’t mind that much, however i just did’t want to do them on multiple characters … )

My point is - You should NEVER force content on people. Make it the way that that people want to play it because it’s fun, not mandatory because it is a means to an end …
