Boar farms aren’t just hunting and gathering. That’s actual coming close to agriculture, just with pigs instead of crops and grains.
Yes, I know!
I didn’t know they had pig farms there!
You were not supposed to see that!
Nomadic tribes also practised animal husbandry, though according to Wikipedia, pigs are associated with settled peoples.
It is impossible to feed a large fortified city like Orgrimmar with just hunters gathering meat, as the supply will be erratic and they can’t afford that
I have seen a fruit sales woman next to Grommash stronghold, so they do not rely on meat alone. Still, the crops and veggies have to come from somewhere else. And if that problem still wasn’t solved…well then the resources of the Orcs are still shortage and starving will soon become a problem again. Just like the last time when a faction war happened.
Yep this is indeed a big problem… Especially the Alliance is in desperate need of a Guillotine, when it comes to main characters…
Fruits and vegetables could come from anywhere, even independent traders.
Yeah, but will they have a population suitable to wage war after being in a civil war? And if they can’t grow crops or raise animals because of the land due to fel or death magic, what then?
If you’re going for worldbuilding, you’ll have to apply it equally across all aspects of a culture or nation, otherwise it feels half-assed
We used to have trading relationships with the Kaldorei until those false flag Twilight’s Hammer attacks in Cataclysm.
looks towards Teldrassil
And I highly doubt this option will appear EVER again. Unless the Trade Coaltion isn’t starting to give the Horde discounts on their goods, then the Orcs will face serious problems. Tauren and Trolls are self sustaining. The Forsaken don’t need water or food and I haven’t seen them growing anything that isn’t mushrooms. And the bloodelfs are still rebuilding. Not to mention, until any crops reach Orgrimmar(From the eastern kingdoms), the food would be already rotten.
Frost magic can be used to preserve foods for a while
Why would the trade coalition give discounts to a faction?
Taurens and Trolls are mostly hunter-gatherers AFAIK
Forsaken lands are riddled with blight which makes growing crops or raising animals there impossible
Even if blood elves have orchards, will it be able to supply the rest of the horde?
Well… can you stop it? The traveler-novels start out as a book about an alliance trading ship in Kalimdor, during MoP-time. They trade with about everyone, from gnolls to trolls and tauren to undead.
Sure, but during wartime, the Alliance will probably embargo the Horde, and if a faction can’t produce food by itself, it’s in serious trouble
Tauren grow crops in Mulgore to feed themselfs, and move to the Barrens for hunting, when the greasn season in Mulgore ends each year.
Trolls either hunt or pick up fresh fruits from their Islands. Both populations are small enough to keep their own races up.
They do grow Mushrooms in Tirisfal. But Hillsbrad should be contested now, so no food from there either.
If all of Quel’Thalas would become flourishing again, then maybe. But as I said, the distance between it and Kalimdor is too far away.
Gazlowe has used his voice in favor of the Prcs multiple times in the past. He rules Ratschet, the most important Steemwheedle port on Kalimdor. So his favor counts big times.
Stop what?
The crew of that ship seems to be independent. Haven’t thought of them as official alliance vessel.
But can they feed all the other populations, when a constant supply of food will be needed if farms and countryside are raided.
Are all of those mushrooms edible?
Gazlowe is favorable towards the Horde, but is the rest of the Steamwheedle cartel? I’d say they won’t help as much
Inviting large-scale smuggling, especially if they don’t really have the means to stop them. Capitalism finds a way. And the book played during MoP, so in wartime.
A crew of Alliance races. They are traders, not soldiers, where exactly would be the difference between “independent” traders and… what else? They do stop in the Eastern Kindoms as well als Kalimdor, though.
Tradeprince Steamwheedle used to aid out the Horde for the right price back in the second war. So either him or that Alchemist who rules Gadgetzan would have a final call to make. Btw. Bilgewater and Steamwheedle are the two biggest cartels out of 5. Technically they have the means to rule the coalition on their own if they ever flexed muscles.
But will the Horde have enough gold or goods for trade with them? The Trade coalition will spike the prices for a desperate customer?
Supporting your point:
WoWpedia: The story takes place in summer of Year 30, during the events of Mists of Pandaria
With recent events regarding the already depleted Horde fleet and the recently destroyed Zandalari fleet, Alliance has the naval dominance by virtue of possessing a relatively untouched Kul’tiran fleet, it can control smuggling, though how much can the Horde hire privateers to hold them off, I can’t say.
The important numbers wouldn’t be Horde vs. Alliance, though, but trade ships vs. state control capacity. A human ship buys lumber. Can they control if they will carry that to another Alliance port or the Horde, who is willing to pay more?
But will the Horde be able to pay more in the first place?
