Nope, it’s just that on the forum they actually have to keep some standards of decency or they get punished quite rapidly and harshly. In game what you’re going to do, report them? And maybe 100 reports later automated call system will suspend them for a few days, then a GM will slap them on a wrist and call it a day. Or after X reports they get autobanned, raise a crapstorm and get unbanned like those guys who were mass reported in Classic lately because directing reports to call centers was cheaper than paying people to oversee reporting system.
I don’t really care for that whole “mandatory meaningful player interaction” thing. No need to talk if we know what to do and how to do it. If someone doesn’t know, they can ask, or even better find out themselves without involving my time & effort to educate them. And insisting on talking about stuff instead of, y’know, DOING IT will not make me like you. What it will do is making me put you in ignore list. Forever, as I don’t believe in silly things like second chances (you had one already, shouldn’t waste it) or forgiving people who hurt you, so they can hurt you some more. Small talk = small people with small minds who can’t discuss really important matters. Like why the f should I even deign to notice them if we don’t have the same goals. It’s obvious we won’t get along, we don’t even want the same things, so why pretend that we do? Yes this is MMO, yes we need some interactions, but we don’t need them mandatory or what have you. As long as players have a common goal, they will find a way to cooperate, no mandatory stuff required. Like forced personal loot, holy Titans how much I hate it.
Once I’ve got a DF group consisting of people talking about their RL stuff thru the whole instance, and their performance suffered accordingly, to the point I was doing more than 50% dmg output. They discussed the topic so much, they didn’t notice themselves wiping on mechanics & me going invisible as they really weren’t paying attention. A herd of bloody sheep in dire need of a lesson if there ever was one. So I’ve put em all in ignore list, didn’t lift a finger for the rest of instance until clicking need on everything I could (yeah, in Wrath you didn’t get personal loot), they didn’t even notice. Then when I was disenchanting the loot, they kinda noticed. Despair, so delicious. Revenge tasted quite good when seasoned with salty tears. Now, would I do that if they didn’t waste my time first? Hell no, if they haven’t brought it on themselves.
A whole lot more groups I’ve been in were of the “no talky wordy social crap when good gameplay will do”. No asking dumb questions about family. No poking noses in other people’s business. No forced interactions. No theatrical expressing themselves. Getting what we all wanted quickly, no problems, no delays, no repair bills, no annoyances. And if someone wants to talk, they can join a talky social guild where they can talk all day long doing nothing. Isn’t the WoW great in allowing this?
