Not much different from one of my previous guilds paying attention whether i was on timeless isle or not as they knew i would attack them.
timeless iland had a item what allowed you become hostile to ur own faction from a vendor with timeless coins ?? if i remeber curretly

best cross faction idea is NO cross faction.
Then enjoy the death of the Alliance !!
In RIFT you can pvp enable yourself and kill guildies who are on the opposite faction.
my first MMO i played was a game named riceing force online they had 3 factions in that game there was no alterative to turn off PVP then they had pots what made u hostile to all and pot lasted to u died
i played warlock what had a robot pet with a lazer axe what 1 shooted players.
So i drank a pot had my pet out protended to be afk watched when someone attacked me and get 1 shooted by my pet 
Just forget that.
