Yep. Every single time it’s been possible players have transferred off “PvP” servers and created monofaction servers that are effectively PvE.
Blizzard’s stance at the beginning of SoD with character creation limits to enforce population balance was surprisingly effective, but they then did a 180 and completely ruined that by opening free transfers off PvP servers.
They also managed those free transfers in the worst possible way, with brief, unannounced windows when they were available meaning that guilds or friends could not reliably transfer together.
Blizzard obviously opened free transfers because they saw that people on PvP servers were unsubbing, and it’s mindboggling that they knowingly created a situation worse than the one that was already making people unsub for those who were left behind on PvP servers after transfers closed.

I think the root of evil is layer overpopulation. The density we have in SoD is over the charts, maybe 10-15 times bigger than on a regular WoW server. Many people who would otherwise prefer a PvP server are completely appalled by this constant grieffest
Any news? I heard living flame gets transfers. Why doesn’t CS Alliance get anything? I want to play this game with a bigger population.
You can’t do sh*t outside prime time.

Classic players when they grief the opposite faction into not playing the game then turning around and complaining that there are no one to pvp (mild shock)
I’m Alliance and Horde is bigger by like 20% or something. You can’t find grps for PvE if no prime time.

Yea im also alliance, Its getting boring there sadly
all the trash left for wildgrowth
Yes and no, server transfers are bad because they can change a server’s population overnight and break guilds down.
People who hate PVP leaving isn’t a bad thing, though. But it’s a big IF to assume that everyone who leaves hates PVP. If they hate PVP why did they roll here in the first place, you know?
Most people who have played on PvP servers in the history of WoW have done so NOT with the intention to PvP. It’s a whole different topic, I could write an essay on why it has happened. To cut a long story short:
- Tryhards do more PvP so they go to PvP servers, so semi-tryhards go there to join them, regular players go PvP because that’s where semi-tryhards are etc.
- Most content makers go PvP because PvP is just more watchable and clippable.
- Most servers are 1-faction “PvP” megaservers while effectively being PvE.
- People who are new to the game want to play with their friends, who are statistically on a PvP server
- When a new season starts, GMs choose to go PvP because they are more committed on average and like PvP more. Those who want to stay with their old guild have to go PvP even if they do not want to (my case btw)
So everyone kinda goes PvP traditionally, and regular normies also go there because you want to play on the most populated server since it’s just easier.
Except this time around the devs messed up the population and PvP servers are just grief fests. People have started to leave the game and those who survived until server transfers instantly transferred to PvE
I give your essay blueprint an F.
So it seems to me as combination of people who didn’t enjoy PvP in the first place, and natural attrition of people who at one point decided they don’t want to be on PvP realm voluntarily.
My question is, wouldn’t that be natural expected course of every such PvP server, that over time population drops? And it doesn’t matter whether people transfer off to PvE or just move to different classic version or stop playing altogether.
I see a lot of nuance and case by case situations. For example me, I feel I like PvP in WoW for about 17 years already but I would never roll on PvP server. And if forced to by any circumstance, I would transfer off as soon as it would serve my ends.

Then why do they play there lmao
The reason they become 1 faction servers is BECAUSE of server transfers. People see 45% Alliance and they transfer off when in reality that 45% has no real consequence.
thats true, that is what happened on differents classic servers in 2020.
When you join a PVp server, you know people there wont be as ‘chill/calm/relaxed’ as in Normal server, because every minute of our life is miserable with the constant harass from the other faction, you have to be on alert 100% of the time even on low level areas.
Hence when you see people doing raids or dungeons, they try to be as close to 100% efficiency because dying/being slow means you will waste even more damn time running back to the dungeon or finding another group, so wasting 15-30min again .
A lot of people, me included, started in a pvp server (Sulfuron) because we knew the people there would not be as casual as on normal server, and we saw that on US as well.
Same thing happened on Lone wold Europe, but now with pvp more present, people started regretting it ( me included) .
Now i rolled on Wild Growth and its a different experience not all people are good or bad but the majority seems a bit lost in how to play their character .
Crusader Strike Eu is 55-45, if not for server transfers it would’ve been even closer.
Should have read the next sentense, I said it’s no longer true in SoD, although other points hold true
You add nothing to this and make no sense. (No Shock)
