Server routing problems, 300+ ping

Hello,

I am writing this post because my Overwatch account is consistently routed to wrong servers: Sydney [syd2] and Finland [gen1], both with 300ms+ ping and high latency, despite me being located in Poland (Europe).

This is NOT a local connection issue. My fiancé is sitting 1 meter away from me, using the exact same fiber optic connection, and he is correctly routed to Amsterdam [ams1] with 40ms ping on his account.

Important: Even when I am placed on the Finland [gen1] server, which is geographically close to Poland, I still experience 300ms ping, which suggests my traffic is being routed “around the world” before reaching the server. I’ve seen MANY people experiencing the same issue.

Things I have already tried on my PC:

  • Flushed DNS and reset network stack (winsock/ipreset).
  • Cleared Blizzard cache in %localappdata%, %appdata%, and %programdata%.
  • Used gaming accelerators (ExitLag) – even with forced Amsterdam/Frankfurt routing, the game engine overrides it and connects to [syd2] or [gen1] with extreme latency.
  • Changed MAC address of my network card.

I even tried:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/1s7ng5u/sometimes_finland_servers_are_laggy_250ms_you_can/

this method, but it didn’t work either. It’s always syd2, gen1 or even Los Angeles. Everything BUT Amsterdam. It seems my account is “flagged” or “stuck” in a wrong region affinity in your database. Or something else is wrong, idk. I literally cannot play the game. I’d like to complete drives, but I guess I can’t.

Oh, and I cannot even submit a ticket for that? That’s just insane.

For real is someone finally in blizzard going to fix this or even have a look on this issue, i feel like devs are ignoring this fact ? I lost many ranked games and ofc lost huge amount of my progression . 300 ms randomly in 4/10 games is ridiculous. Are we going to get any compensation for our lost games, when its definitely issue from the Blizzard side ?

this problem is in this game so long that im sure devs are ignoring it, which is really sad for an esport game

I have the exact same issue.

Me and 3 of my friends, all located in Poland, are experiencing this issue as well. Fix your game.

And you can’t even submit a ticket in the technical category anymore. It just loops you back to the same useless “troubleshooting” articles. I had to literally file my ticket under “Payments/Problem with purchase” just to get a human to look at it.

Long story short: I sent them everything – logs, proof that my fiancé (sitting 1m away on the same fiber) has 40ms while I have 300ms, and info that ExitLag is the only thing that temporarily helps.

What did they tell me?

  • GM #1: “Check if your region is set to Europe” (No sh*t, Sherlock).

  • GM #2: Sent me the EXACT same link for the second time and called me a “valiant adventurer” (I’m not kidding).

  • GM #3: Finally admitted their devs are aware of the issue, but basically told me to just wait and check the forums.

It’s clearly a backend/account affinity bug on their end affecting Poland/CEE region, and they have no clue how to fix it quickly. If you’re getting [syd2] or [gen1] with 300ms, don’t bother resetting your router for the 100th time. It’s on them. Basically, they don’t give a shit  The only thing we can do is spam the forum I guess… Or just go to Marvel Rivals or smth.
