Let us deactivate that nonsense. Its annoying to close it every time. its annoying and and on devices like the steam deck a hassle.
Add this
127.0.0.1 cache-us . battle . net
127.0.0.1 cache-eu . battle . net
127.0.0.1 *.ttvnw . net ttvnw . net
into C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (make sure you have removed spaces between dots)
It works for me.
Greetings! While adding these addresses to the hosts file can block the pop-up it may also affect other functions of the Battle.net app and potentially cause installation/patching issues or other errors. So we don’t recommend doing that.
So what DO you recommend? Are you going to forward these concerns? or are you just responding when people circumvent your shitty ads and scaring them not to?
Thank you, it works.
Meonnir, if i get problem with it, i come again. The problem is, we all pay money for our games in bnet but still get annoyed by such stuff without good reason. The easy solution would be to add a switch to turn it off.
Just remove the friggin pop ups. If I want something, I will go and buy it. And then again, seeing how expensive Blizzard has become, maybe we prefer not to have the full functionality of battle.net. Maybe Blizzard should go back to it’s roots where they were a reputable game designing company and not fall in league with the likes of EA games who are money grubbing corporates.
I know what your on about the "darken the whole screen* and NEW: DIABLO or something appears.
If its the Home Page problem then:
There is a temporary way around this (without block communications).
BNETAPP->SETTINGS->App
ON STARTUP, VIEW:
Home Page (default selection)
Last Viewed Game Page ******* SELECT THIS ********
P.S. Blizzard Staff: WHY IS IT YOU ONLY RESPOND to peoples way around things which you should have OPTIONS for ? Is blizzard so out of touch with reality of its USER BASE (not its people who have more money than sense) … ??
I use that setting but I still get all the pop up news.
+1 This is annoying as hell.
I guess Bobby wants more dough.
I don’t care about “whats new”. If i want to know, i ll go to the official websites. Since last month i stopped to open battle.net because of this sh** popup.
If ads persisting, i don’t care about to stop playing blizz games (and please, check my account creation date ‘paying’ ) and will find other options. Then i ll help any topic against ads/popups.
I really hate that kind of action.
How do I stop getting the whats new pop up? If whats new is good I’ll hear about it in other ways or if I want to see it i’ll ask for it. When I load the client I just want to play the game I want to play. I guess the only alternative is I stop using the launcher.
Remove that crap ads or let us disable them.
I’ve resorted to using the Steam front end now adding non-steam games from Battle.net and closing the bnet launcher after it quickly logs in. Sad I have to use another launcher to play through when it’s literally just these pop up ads that made me do it.
I never messed with steam. Is there a short cut for launching strait to d2r online with out having to navigate steams manager or is it like blizzards manager just with out the “what’s new” popup ?
The pop-up is very annoying. I play Wow, nothing else, and there are some games advertised I’d never touch, so I’d much rather not see anything other than what I play advertised.
That, and it’s another unnecessary click every time I want to open my games, which is quite a step back in convenience from what worked fine before.
It annoys me, and I’d certainly never play any game whose adds annoy me. At least add a turn-off option, or go back to the game loading screen as before.
Seriously! get rid of this, it is terribly annoying to have to click this off before I can launch a game. It is also a bad look for a mod to address changes to the host file but have nothing but crickets about the issue at hand. I don’t pay a monthly sub to you to have ads pop up on me.
Battle.net periodically displays a “What’s new?” pop-up when there are important updates or news related to games or the Battle.net client itself. To remove or disable this pop-up, you can try the following steps:
Check for Updates: Sometimes, this pop-up appears because there is an update available for the Battle.net client. To check for updates:
Launch the Battle.net client.
Click on your profile icon (usually located in the top-right corner).
Select “Check for Updates.”
If there’s an update available, download and install it. After updating, the pop-up may no longer appear.
Notification Settings:
Open the Battle.net client.
Click on your profile icon.
Select “Settings.”
In the Settings menu, click on “Notifications.”
You may find options to customize which types of notifications you receive. Check if there’s an option related to “What’s new?” or similar, and disable it.
Opt-Out of Marketing Notifications:
Log in to your Battle.net account on the official Battle.net website.
Go to the “Communication Preferences” or “Notification Settings” section of your account settings.
Look for options related to marketing or promotional notifications and disable them. This might prevent some pop-ups related to promotional content.
Clear Cache and Settings:
Sometimes, clearing the Battle.net cache and settings can resolve issues with pop-ups. Be aware that this will reset some of your client settings, so make sure to take note of any important customizations you want to keep.
Close the Battle.net client.
Navigate to the Battle.net cache folder on your computer (usually located in C:\ProgramData\Battle.net or similar).
Delete the contents of the cache folder.
Restart the Battle.net client and see if the pop-up persists.
Please note that software interfaces and settings may change over time, so it’s possible that the options mentioned above have been modified or relocated in newer versions of the Battle.net client. If none of the above solutions work, I recommend checking the official Battle.net support website or contacting their support team for the most up-to-date guidance on disabling the “What’s new?” pop-up.
I’m not opening Battle.net app anymore except on days to update. That days makes me get mad with that damn popup. Then, every time i remember that i don’t pay to get mad. Then, we are all waiting for a solution. Try it yourself and tell me if you trully likes it. ¬¬
damn, what an awful CS rep
