Hello.
The game launches fine, and I have an offline character.
at some random times while I’m playing the screen instantly turns black, with the d2r logo burning in the bottom right of the screen. the sound keeps playing, i can move my cursor or pause with esc, but the image never comes back.
It just happened a few minutes ago, right after I killed the countess in hell, always super happy to let those runes on the ground cause I can’t see them or click on them… had to alt+f4 to exit.
And before you ask my computer is recent and powerful, and that problem only started appearing yesterday. It happened 4 or 5 times already.
Please help.

Had the same Problem yesterday, after defeating duriel. Was able to pick up a bit of the loot and BAMM screen black.
I just hit esc and enter, and was back at the lobby, tried to rejoin the game, same black screen. quit it again and made a new game, that worked

Doesn’t solve the problem though. I dread the moment when I’ll get the awesome unique item I want and the screen will go black before i can click it.
Just updated my drivers we’ll see if it does anything.
edit: Nope. The updated graphics drivers did not change anything. The screen just went black again while I was idling in town. I’m pretty sure the problem comes from the game, not from my computer.
I’ll just have to stop playing it until a fix comes, I can’t play a game that randomly crashes, especially a game like diablo2.

Same happend to me. 2 days in a row. I tried with the “G” Key and it does not help. It goes in classic mode but its all very small and I still can’t move. I can open the inventory and all other, I even opened a town portal but I cant go through it.
At least in classic mode I cand enter the menu, but there is no “Configure Controls”.

I have the same issue since today. I’m in act 1 just killing a few monsters, then a black screen with the burning logo in the bottom right. Can’t go back in game matter how long I wait or keys I push. Just have to kill the application…
For the record, I only play offline, never played online!

I also play offline. After I restarted the game, I put the game in windowed mode and back to full screen, as well as hiting “G” 2 times (classic mode). It sieams to work. If it happens again, try to hit “alt+enter” and see if that does something. I thought of this just after I restarted the game.

2 days ago I had the same problem. I started and closed the game for about half an hour and still just black screen. After I started for the 5-6th time I hit “G” 2 times, to get in and out of “classic mod” and I had no problem playing after that. Luck or not, I don’t know.

I’ve never seen a game where the developpers expanded this much effort to make sure people can’t play it, what with the infinite queue in online and the black screen in offline…

the blackscreen is no offline only bug, i played online while it happened

Same here. Has anyone find any fix for it ? This game brings real terror everytime I want to play it.
It seems that this is actually a bug and being worked on by the development team, so hopefully it’s something they will fix in the near future. It does seem to be related to switching between the HD and old graphics though.
Do also make sure you meet the Minimum Requirements to run the game.
I just bought the game and launching it works fine.

I’ve never been able to actually play. But clicking around the black screen I can tell the character is moving.
