The same issue with a 11900k, MSI 3080ti, and 32gb ram. If I stay there for the catapult fireball animations that appear after I kill him, the game crashes. If I kill Shenk and then move away to avoid the catapult animations the game seems fine. Not sure this is an issue with the game or the gpu. Thank you!

shenk is still crashing… sometimes. i avoid meteor fire and come back 20 secs later…

I am experiencing the same issue, a few seconds after i kill shenk game closes, seems to happen less when im in a game with others.

They will never fix this, the same shit was in the original game 21 years ago.

Is it finally been fixed ? i did a few shenk runs today (on HC ladder) and no more lags or crashes … can someone confirm this?
Ive done 4 runs on shenk within the last 10 minutes and 3 of them resulted in a crash so it doesnt seem to be fixed
I have a 3070 and the issue is still here. Every single time I fight Shenk I crash. I have updated drivers and Windows 11 is up to date.
Today, the game flew to the desktop after killing a Shank during the animation of the fire rain. i9 9900k, ram 32gb, 3080ti. All drivers are recent.

i’ll try to share my experience about this issue.
I think I found a “trick” for avoiding crash without having to do something on operating system level.
I’ve a GeForce 2060 with 6Gb ram and going to check the game option under tab “Video” section “Display” we’ve the slide “Framerate cap” with default value “0” that it means always max frame rate (it may depend on refresh rate of monitors I think, cause my fps is always 60 in every other areas of the game… who has a better monitor can validate this thought…), so I played a little with it and found that if I set manually the cap to “60” the game keep crashing on Shenk, but if I set it to “50” it happens something magic and the game keep going without crashing.
I’ll test game stability growing up this value every 200 Shenk runs without crash.
I think in future the interactions of game code and drivers will not cause the crash anymore, but till this will happen, just try this trick and give us in here feedbacks (maybe it will go with systems with non nvidia gpu too).
I think this bug is related to the Hydra bug. It seems like the game cannot handle the fire sometimes. My game is crashing in Travincal, and they’ve acknowledged that it’s a bug (back in December) but it’s still an issue for a lot of folks.

Ryzen 5600x, RTX 3070 founders edition, ASUS TUF X570, and 32 gig of 3600 DDR4 ram (Corsair vengeance) and I dropped to desktop after killing Shenk before I could pick up the unique helm he dropped! this is infuriating! Please fix this issue!

Go to Options → Video → VFX Lighting Quality → set to “LOW”

Same problem here. AMD 5800X (non3d) and the RTX 3080 (10GB) along with M.2 SSD’s, regular SSD’s etc. In other words, it is not my system.

This game is over 20 years old. The game even crashes on the Baal minions which I never had in old Diablo 2.
Did you try to turn on Vsyng, or put limit on fps. Until they fix the problem
