D2R crash after killing Shenk

Same issue, rtx 3060ti and i5 12600k

Same here - although I think it ist a general problem with the fire post processing effects, as I encounter it mainly with Shenk, but rarely also with the council hydras:

Workaround for Nvidia 30x0 Users (I got a 3080FE):

  • install older graphic driver manually and direct from Nvidia - the one from the 31th August 2021 is what you are searching for. You must accept to overwrite the current (probably newer) driver. Make sure to deactivate the option to install newer drivers automatically in your GeForce XPerience center.
  • frames will drop hard 10-15seconds if shenk is dead and had multishotskills, but it will not crash to desktop anymore.

→ The series 30x0 drivers can be found under the ->Producttype: GeForce<- section on nvidia, RTX / Quadro will provide you with quadrodrivers.

I can confirm this, thanks @Gamma!

GeForce driver 471.96 from 31th August works “fine”. While performance still ist not there where it should be, the crashes after fighting Shenk are gone. With the latest drivers I was able to reproduce the crash in 100% of the attempts. With the older driver I could not reproduce it at all.

Having the same issue. Shenk dies, game crashes, losing all the sweet sweet loot.

Is there a workaround for this having the same issue GTX 2080 TI using max settings everything else works fine except for Shenk

i got the same prob trying without nvidia dlss still no crashes yet
with dlss every kill it crash

Same issue, GEFORCE RTX

I have 3060ti with 5600x and 32GB RAM - crashes almost every time - it starts with framedrops and then you go to desktop.

There is a workaround though - right after you kill him run away so you don’t see the fiery animations - wait a bit and go back to take the loot.

I really hope Blizzard would fix this, it’s just tragic

Asus TUF 3080 OC here, still crashes after killing Shenk more often than not.

I mean seriously, how long do you need to fix this bug??

3060 user here … same issue with shenk , a small work around is moving out of the screen with the fire when he dies … not optimal i know but it seems to work.

Ich hab auch eine RTX 2060, bei mir besteht auch das Problem mit dem Shenk-Absturz.

same issue… since today… … i play since release, killed shenk 1000 times, no crash. but today 3 crash in 3 games…

gigabyte g5 laptop, i5, 3060

today i updated gpu z (gpu monitoring) from 2.4 to 2.43 … this is the only thing i changed … have to check

deactivate gpu z, restart. shenk crash …

deactivated dlss from default - balanced . no crash.
but after a few month with dlss default on shenk decidet to crash my game? weird

DLSS has only been in the game for a very short time, since last patch or so. Sure not months

i play d2r in beta/release always have crahs when shenk died, i have remove the dlss and no more freeze, !!! +1

Same here, still crashes (RTX 2060 Super). After all this time, one would hope that they 'd fix this.

I have been having the same issue. Super easy fix to stop this from happening. Go into options/video and lock your FPS to 60. This will solve all the crashes doing shenk. I run D2R at 120FPS all the it never drops more than 5-6FPS ever Except when I do Shenk. When I am going to start my farming runs I set my FPS to 60 have not had a crash since. When done farming him I set FPS back to 120.

set fps to 60 will solve the issue

Set FPS in game to 60 will solve the issue
