General RUNE drop Nerf

While I would normally agree with you 100%, there are a LOT of people reporting things that are extremely improbable with this game’s loot. And I do not mean on just these forums. The idea that D2R has a loot/RNG problem is being reported in lots of places. You cannot deny that the patterns are extremely unlikely and unusual.

I have completely same experience… coincidence??

I also noticed some high rune drops repeating in same time frame…or save…
Have one Sur rune drop within one or two minutes… Same with Ohm… it never droped in 2 months farming and suddendly within 2 minutes I got 2 drops… Interesting.

you have no idea about stochastics. comparing d2-loot-mechanics with a 6-side-dice is simply stupid.

d2 rune loot is like rolling a 100.000 sided dice (with like 1 side results in a zod, 4 other sides result in cham, 10 other side result in a jah rune, …, 23456 sides result in an eld, 56789 sides result in an ed), million times a day, results spread over tousends of players. most people are overchallenged by big numbers, so they make simplifications with small numbers. but this simplifications are wrong.

there is nothing bugged or wrong with d2 rune loot, when one player gets 3 high runs one day and only lows in the next weeks.

what you want has nothing to do with random. you want controlled loot. go to d3, there you get that.

Precisely my point!!! Cheers!

the lootgeneration of d2 as i observed it has some attributes ppl like to prove thats its really random. however this system is not really random but should emulate or simualte a randomizer. its built by human maybe with exact this intention and has a nonlinear behaviour. i did travincial runs for weeks, i did them daily. every day i had some favourit picks, even unqiues which did not pop up for months appeared- always appeared in groups- every game - or longer. i name these items of the pool as favoured. they get selected. its not only that the base item dropped- they always rolled high - as a unique for example - switching area, gear or character had no effect, they rolled again. this behaviour is obviously and consistent observable. its like a compartment out of the complete loot - which gets in favour at some point. runes work in a quite similar way. the games with a HR drop often also shows some midrunes in a fast sequenze which normally do not show up for weeks…

I logged in just to let you know that your comment is absolute nonsense.
A six sided dice will not “smooth out” at 3-4…

Check out some magic find calculators and maybe you get an idea, why sometimes there’s a spike in drops.

I’m going to help to the best of my abilities. I’m going to list what I think can be causing this in order of the most significant factor to the less significant ones.

  1. RNG

That’s it. Call be crazy but. I actually think it’s RNG!

I have the same experience, but sadly not with high runes. e.g. Got 3 uniques swords Griswold’whatever broad sword in 3 consecutive cow runs. never saw that sword before.

That’s not what he meant. He mentioned the medium, which means nothing. But the smooths out part, I get what he means. If you roll a die 100k times, the results will be that each number would appear roughly the same number of times (1/6 of 100k obviously), hence “smooth” and not spiky, as in out of 100,000 rolls you got zero 4, 5 or 6s.

The chances of that happening are not zero, but they are so close to zero that they might as well be zero and will be zero for all practical purposes and experiences.

Oh and for the record, I have played this game more or less for 5 hours per day since release, more on weekends. I have 6 chars in Hell. Yeah no life, but let’s see you have a life when you are 54 years old… Anyways the highest runes I have found are 2 Lem and 2 Um. That’s it.

Same here, found few UM IST LEM, no high runes yet. However, why is it a bad thing? Look at those poor people who bought / traded their gear as a result finished game too quickly and now crying on forums that they have nothing else to do in the game.

Just enjoy the game, take a break if you are tired of farming, you do not have to prove anything to anyone.

Finally a guy that have some brain around.

so what exactly from the drop represents 1-6 on your dice (equal possibility)?

Not sure if serious.

The dice was an example of how a thing that has such a small chance of occurring might as well be impossible (have zero chance of occurring).

the dice example is the same fallacy as Reductio ad Hitlerum… really unrepresentative and false in the idea when applied to “uhhh ohhh I can’t drop rare stuff… and then somehow I drop it!”.

The dice example is a very basic one so low brainer dinosaurs may understsnd(semms not understand even this one… ).
The whole idea is: a BER rune can be very hard to find and is OK. you can farm e.g. 3 months for it, ok, but in that time you get some LEMs, PULs, UMs… and finally a BER or LO or… drops. but D2R now is: no rune above LEM drop for 1 month(or maybe 1-2 ~Pul) then in 1 day get 2xBER + JAH + LO (and actually several players reported this) - that’s the 6 of the dice, a bunch of high runes dropping in 1 day after 1 month nothing. Now, theoretically this is possible, practically that could happen to 1 player, an isolated case, but when this happen to several players there is something strange.

Look, you were explained why 6 sided dice is retarded example dozens of times, so I will just ignore you, mkay?

With all due respect, where do you get all this data from? To make any statistical assumptions you need to analyse proper sample size. Few ppl blogs on forum does not represent anything. Only Blizzard have this data.

I´m pretty sure, there is a main skript running, that influences the drops (normal-elite) and the mf (Item-state).
Like in the first post explained, the drops get poorer with rising lvl of chars.
Of xourse the drop chance of high lvl rares are only possible with high lvl chars, but the rest of drops minimizes with rising lvl.

To prove my Guess:
When I´m finding something good, its often not only 1 item, it´s more like a timespan of +/-30 minutes, and when I take a look at trades, more players seem to have same items or runes found and try offering.

Greetz Credo
