If you cant play shared loot with friends you maybe should question your friends and not the game.
Agreed. also I’m sick and tired of people claiming it will “Flood the system with more items than before.” This is utter foolishness. Obviously it would IF the drop ratios remained the same. who said they would? Obviously it could be done effectively with simply multiplying the chance to drop nothing on kill by the number of players. In other words, dividing the loot chance by the number of players in the game. The KEY DIFFERENCE being, you can play with your friends without dealing with in-fighting over every high rune drop. I find D2 most engaging and fun way to play is in a multiplayer setting, but the current loot system makes me only want to farm solo. Pretty sad if everyone I know IRL are on the realm at the same time but all are in solo games not interacting with eachother because a stupid obsolete system makes it unattractive to actually group together. We all may as well be just playing SP. Only benefit to realm right now is the availability to trade your solo farmed gear.
Furthermore, from a balance perspective, monster immunities were obviously designed around the principle of multiplayer in mind. It makes it more annoying to farm items when you have no nobody to assist you in dealing with mobs your build is ‘bad against’.
It’s just really like rubbing salt in a wound when the game is already an extremely painful grind to acquire good gear. would be much more tolerable if I could at least do it with friends
That’s a feature…a game mechanic. It is supposed to frustrate you. That’s the whole point. And when you’ll be the one getting that rune that the cows drop it with 5 people around, you’ll appreciated it.
I don’t. It takes away from my enjoyment when i know 5 other people didn’t get a digital item that they also were hoping for. Maybe that’s just me, i don’t know.
There is a way. Play alone.
I want ploot. That’s the only thing from D3 that I actually liked. It makes farming in a full 8player game a nobrainer.
I’ve played D2 and now D2R for a looooong time and the current system is sadly out of touch with the new player reality. Most of the time in a Baal run, people just sit at his feet and wait for the items to drop. People are LAZY nowadays, too lazy to play the game even. And I don’t want a good item to go to one of those players. Before, in D2, I didn’t mind it as most of the people actually participated and they deserved a shot at the loot. New players are the “carry me daddy” type and all they deserve is a TP scroll to get out of there.
And it does not increase the number of items on the market as some have suggested, wtf. How is it any different than the current trend of people making games for “mixed MF” ? Except those take time to coordinate and willing participants that know what they are doing. Ploot will make every game a mixed MF game. Everyone wins. It’s a quality of life thing.
Most of you forget that while common loot worked out for original D2, people were different back then. “Gamers” were often mocked by “people with jobs” but that made them actually play the game. They knew the game and played it. Cooperated. They were a funny bunch, sometimes toxic, but overall, you had the feeling of being in a community.
Nowaday’s “community” is a group of self-entitled beggers than want everything served on a silver plater. They only join 8player games to GET the loot, not to farm it. I’ve had quite a number of Baal runs that people join and everyone waits in town for the TP. For minutes, tens of minutes. Only for the underleveled/undergeared sorc (me or some other poor soul) to try their luck and die on the way. Then everyone LEAVES.
So yes, we need ploot, as an option or the standart loot system. The times seem to require it. When there are 1 Baal run, 1-2 cow runs and 1 Diablo run active at all times (if you are lucky), it is kinda obvious most people play solo to avoid sharing loot. Or have stopped playing altogether. In a multiplayer online game. Ploot will make playing solo pointless, unless you really need the solitude. And that’s a good thing. We need more games and people cooperating.
You do realize that ploot would change nothing on the things you´re arguing about ? With ploot the same people would still stay around and do nothing at all because their part of the loot is fixed nevertheless. Even worth now they not even have to follow whats going on anymore since nobody could get their part of the drop.
The problem is the lobby, not the shared loot.
Also i do not want to see this forum if ploot would be implemented reasonable well, meaning conserving the overall number of drops. Would be really great to do 20 baal runs to get no items at all 10 times and maybe 2 stacks of gold and a shitty rare one in the remaining 10 runs.
So no we dont need ploot, neither as standard nor as an option, the times requires nothing and it´s kinda obvious most people play solo to avoid the crappy lobby system.
Think i just came up with the lobby being the problem for most of the player base ? Yeah kinda did that, but if you just claim its shared loot i guess i can do that as well.
Yes it will. I will actually have 8player games to join (with P8 loot) and actually have some loot. And gasp play in multiplayer, with more games to join as well. As will everyone else.
In the current situation we are stuck in P1 farming in a multiplayer game. Slackers will be there again, yes, but this time no ninja-ing items for them. And the participating players actually get some use out of them - increasing the player count.
The lobby is a whole different problem. It is actually worse than the original D2 lobby, from the design to the functionality. But the OP is about ploot so that’s what I am commenting on.
Thats just an assumption you make which by no means has to be true. P8 with ploot and no increase in the overall number of drops would mean everyone in that game would get less items than they would get when playing solo.
Therefore the people would still play alone or do split mf runs, depending whether ploot would be connected to player-player distance somehow or not.
This way ploot would not change the multiplayer experience at all, it might just nerf split mf games, again depending on the chosen implementation and would not increase the items you get from e.g. baal at all.
PLoot would be just a filter that devides the loot for you instead of picking it up yourself. I don’t get how this improves the game. Imagine hosting baal/dia runs and some leech will get the Ber rune from the mobs you just killed.
Obviously you ‘can’ have a similar situation in the current version of loot but it’s far less likely that a ‘leech’ will be faster in picking up your loot than with PLoot.
I wouldn’t mind having it as an option in the game as long as it is obvious when joining a game that it is PLoot and not Shared Loot.
And having less visible loot obviously will change the overall game experience also the missing ‘clickbattle’ when killing a boss.
That depends on how they implement it, right ? Speculation is hardly evidence.
The fact of the matter is ploot is in every way possible better than what we currently have - single player game, online. We need some way to make 8player games more common. Ploot is one way and there is nothing stopping you plaing solo, if that is what you want. It’s an online multiplayer game, at least on paper. The current system does not encourage that. In fact, it punishes you, unless you do split MF runs, which take patience and coordination.
Yeah for sure its just speculations. But in the end there are only 2 ways ploot could go:
-
leave overall number of drops the same
→ playing alone would be more efficient than ploot with more players, therefore no need to implement it at all since players would stick to solo play or split mf due to way higher efficiency. -
increase overall number of drops
→ basically the same as increasing the drop rate, which would change the game dynamic but this already is discussed elsewhere
Hence the discussion about ploot boils down to whether the overall drop rate should be increased or not, at least if one likes to argue for ploot with an increasing number of mp games.
+1 for ploot - selectable if it must be…
click rush (grab grab grab )after a boss kill is not a nice experaince for anyone and not a way to reward playing together!
I mostly play solo now, just because of the stress or if I play Multi player I dont bother if something drops I let them have it.
I had a Tals armor drop after playing since launch, in a pub game (only 2 people in it) i misclicked and picked up a gem, then the armor kept bouncing, by the time i figured out why I couldnt pick it up, the other guy walked over and grabbed it.
so I just stopping playing for about 3 weeks. its a big disincentive to play!
Things that were accepted 20 years ago, are just not appropriate today
The game needs reasons to play together not against each other.
I can understand that some people would like ploot more, but please stop claiming that everybody would like ploot more or that shared loot would be bad in every aspect. Its just personal preference.
I for myself like shared loot. I like the “retro” aspect and the competition, together with the rush not to know whether i will arrive at an item in time or to late. I also did like that mp have the upside of more loot but the downside of the competition which for me balances out just fine.
Together with the increased exp in mp this is enough for me to play mp if i feel like it. The other time i am fine farming alone, since the chance for worthy items is low nevertheless thus i might get lucky in sp as well.
Tldr : totally fine with the discussion itself but dont try to build up a story where everybody wants ploot and hates shared loot^^
i dont see a problem in private loot concerning the amount of drops. most ppl play alone, after they leeched their char to lvl 75+. with private loot, they would play in a group instead, so the amount of drops will be the same or is slightly increased. the fun factor would be increased too. if you exclude dclone and ubers from private loot, it would all be fine.
Thats the point i made in the previous answer.
If one translates to ploot without increasing the overall number of drops you wont get the same amount of loot in mp as in solo games since the number of drops in an eight player game is not eight times the number of drops of solo play.
If you would implement ploot to give each player the same amount of loot as in solo play its basically the same as increasing the drop rate.
PLoot will kill the multiplayer aspects of the game completely. The only reason people play together is increased XP. If you force them to share their loot then the carry players will stop playing with others and only XP leechers are left in public games.
And as people have stated. You get 4.5 times more loot in p7/p8. If you increase that number then you effectively change the current balance. There is just no reason to do it. Play with your friends or make friends if you don’t have anyone. Stop forcing changes on everybody most people are happy as it is.
According to Dropcalcs i can only see you get 2.6 times more loot in an p8 game with 8 ppl around you from normal monsters. bosses drop perhaps 1.3 times more. if you decrease this number a bit, there is no problem.
the multiplayer gameplay is killed right now with shared loot. the ppl only do baalruns or leechgames together. there is no reason for any char to do mf-cs runs together, because you might dont get the gg item, which drop in 1/100 runs.
if the loot would be private, ppl would do much more games together especially mf runs.
One last time. Lets assume your numbers are correct and let 1 be the number of drops you get in a single player game. Than in 8p game the number of drops would be 2.6.
If you now introduce ploot without increasing the overall drop rate (which again might be problematic for various reasons) the number of drops for each individual player would be 2.6/8 or in different words only 3 people will get an item while in single player every one would have got one.
Therefore nobody would play mp anymore since you will get way less than just playing alone.
And for the rest of your post:
You dont want to play mp with shared loot. This does not mean nobody want to play mp with shared loot. Stop pretending everybody thinks about shared loot like you do.
are you the ruler of the world? the CEO of Blizzard? or why that arogance in the answer? is you that decide? For sure not! personalloot need tobe added asap!
