All progress lost, Inventory and Hero Level intact?

I was using the “Trial” version of Diablo 3 for the past 2 days.

Yesterday, while still in trial mode, i quit the game and restarted it (with checkpoints saved) and the game started back at the very start and I had to redo all of the quests up until the Skeleton King. This was annoying, however my Hero level & full inventory had been saved and remained intact.

I just replayed through all of this again upto the Skeleton King, completed it and upgraded my game by purchasing it.
I reloaded the game and it has put me back to the very start again - with level and full inventory still intact.

Why is my game progress not saving properly?
If my progress can not be replaced, I would really like to ask for a refund for the €9.99 I spent.

The Starter Edition limits you to the Skeleton King encounter and/or level 13.

Once you upgrade to the full game, those restrictions are removed but quest progress is set back to the start of the Campaign. However, at the Hero Select screen, if you click on Game Settings, click Change, you can then select Act I, The Imprisoned Angel, i.e. get back to just before you fight the Skeleton King. Once you kill him, the rest of the Campaign will continue, all the way to end of the game, i.e. you have access to the entire remaining parts of the Campaign.
